On the 25/4/2022, 7A was rostered on for the Anzac Day Dawn Service for the Emerald RSL. As part of this, 7A received a VR 5 chime, which I was told was from an A2 class loco. In order to get there, 7A had to perform both a transfer there and back. On the 10/7/2021, A2 986 and K 153 performed Lilydale to Ringwood shuttles. The tour was aimed to send one last steam train to the original Lilydale station that was opened on the 1 of December 1882 before the sky rail and new station are built. U sure its of 163? as 163 has never had its whistle removed. It could be 861 whistle as its the only loco i know that puff has with a five chimer on it
Yeah it was 163's... they borrowed it while it was having an overhaul I believe.

Thank you 4 this beautiful & nostalgic video full of wonderful memories 4 me of chasing Puffing Billy 2 photograph it in 1978/79 in my Ford Transit van & the pervasive memories of Puffing Billy from childhood & annual visits 2 Melbourne from Canberra that always seemed 2 include a delightful trip behind 1 of Puffing Billy's Classic NA-Class Locos with brother, sisters & cousins ; ... my Grandfather worked @ Newport Workshops 4 VR where the NA's were constructed so the memories r v v personal ... & also remind me of firing on ZZR DD17-Class #1047 Steam Loco in the 1979-80 period near Lithgow NSW - !!! - Thanks again 4 the wonderful memories - !!! - Don (Wingco) P.

I don’t know why they keep taking it off and putting it back on again.
5 chimes are rarely fitted to NAs these days, if ever minus this one occasion. 8A had one fitted in the 80s but it was stolen (the holes in the tank strap which secures the tanks to the boiler where it was fitted are still there) It was only fitted for the ANZAC Dawn Service which used to use 861 but as it was and still is stored dry in the Menzies Creek museum a servicable loco was used instead) ONSRR ruling can make it difficult to swap warning devices (whistles) on locos willynilly without a lot of paperwork, committees and tests

weird spot to put the whistle could of put it next to the NA whistle like 7A
The 5 chime isn't compatable with the fittings on the steam dome, so instead it was screwed into the boiler where one of the washout plugs can be found
