  • My latest find. A 1990 Maytag commercial coin operated washer. I have been eying one of these for awhile and found one for a decent price on letgo.
    The model number is LA23CD. Machine works no issues. Only one water level,large. Wash temp is chosen by what you are washing. All cold rinses. rinse cycle is only 1 minute long no matter then cycle.
    they don't make em like this anymore. Even modern commercial washers have declined in quality.

    Nice nice! After the rattlie rattlies are taken care of, it's time to add a warm rinse option, lid switch bypass, and maybe a manual "water is full" switch so you can cut the water if you're not washing a full load. Love the worn VFD display on it, that adds a lot of charm!

    Smooth running and quickly shifts between wash and spin. I think you got a winner there well worth $100.

    Haha that laundromat certainly did not upgrade equipment by getting rid of these machines! His loss is your gain for sure. Nice find!

    How do I bypass the lid switch on this machine?

  • @fordexplorer2505
    @fordexplorer2505 4 года назад +1

    How do you get them to operate with the lid open? I've been trying to do that when I go to my nearest laundromat which has speed queen top loaders. Some of them are Maytag though, but how did you get it to operate with the lid open?

    • @lexmarks567
      @lexmarks567  4 года назад +1

      This one I added a key switch that will either bypass the switch or allow it to run in factory mode. On most of these you just have to insert something between the lid and switch to keep the switch depressed.

    Nice to see someone with the same washer I have. I need to replace the three balancing springs extension/compression depending on who you're asking what they're called. They're 11 in long from hook to hook, the coil is 1 in wide, the coil is 5 in long, and the spring wire width is 3.5 mm. My springs are rusted and need replacement. I can't find these anywhere, Maytag claims this is not a model good number LA 23 CD, Even though you and I have LA 23 CD washers. If you have any ideas of where I could get three balancing springs I sure would appreciate it, I've searched and racked my brain for weeks, and can't come up with anything.

      I would have lots of these springs if you are really desperate. rusty springs are fine. just oil them. I never seen one break ever in my 38 yrs of service work.

      @@holdenvtseries2274 I'm assuming this is around 1989 or early 90s before they changed to the larger tub opening.

      @@holdenvtseries2274 I always liked these orbitals with the smaller openings. The power fin was changed to the blue shark fin agitator right around the 1988/89 time period I believe. Nathaniel Sullivan had one on his channel. His family got rid of it I believe because of rusting out. There are some good videos of that machine in action with the blue shark fin agitator.

    I work maintenance for a small apartment complex, I have this exact machine. It's got three suspension springs inside that are rusted, and they do not make replacements that I can find. Would you have any idea where I could get a replacement or something that would work? I know the spring is 11 inches long, the coil is 5 in, it's 1 inch across, and the wire is 3.5 mm. Any help would be so appreciated otherwise I think we're just going to have to sell it

      Find another 2 belt Maytag washer from 1966-2006 and harvest the parts. Those springs had a 50 year run.

    What is it like compared to a Speed Queen of the same era with the two knobs on the left but no LCD?

    • @Makesdonsdonsoney
      @Makesdonsdonsoney 2 месяца назад +1

      Works better than a speed queen this is where they got it from and the Maytag scrubs your clothes instead of swishing it back and forth

      just drill it out and replace it with one from a commercial washer parts place. Might have to re-use the finger part if the new one doesn't fit.
