I dig the choice to not include the foam so that you receive the designer's intended vision for the board, and I also love that for like under ten dollars you could just mod it yourself if you have a different vision. Thanks for showing all the permutations of foam vs no foam with this one, always appreciated!
This looks great, appreciate the clean design aesthetic, and really enjoyed seeing you build it the different ways! I feel like your videos must appeal to a pretty broad audience within the niche of keyboard enthusiasts, I appreciate that you’re always experimenting. All these arisu/alice boards that are coming out definitely have me interested in maybe finally giving the layout a try.
You know, I always thought Alice style keyboards might feel different, but in reality, they type very similar to the standard keyboard with not much adjustments required!
@@reginalb124 The owl lab spring looks super cool, that's one I feel like was interesting enough that I might have been willing to buy it even as a first alice just because of the interesting mounting

Great video and very appreciative of the look back at the days of old in terms of modding the boards. Very nice to see the range of sounds produced by the various mods on this board. Thanks as always for the time and effort you put into your videos. Building one board takes a lot of time let alone modding it over and over and the producing that high quality video that you do. Keep on keeping on!
If they're able to create something that sounds great without foam, that's amazing! It's nice to see something different, and as per usual, as a user you can add foam of various kinds any way you like.
I learned about Zip-N-Fit from one of your videos, and I still use it in most of my builds. Being new to the hobby, I will admit that the new-school sound appealed to me the most.
Fun build vid dude! I recently built a Geon Frog, with no mods at all but Lube in the switches/stabs and man am I in love with the sound. It’s so cool to have a board that sounds like what you want in the beginning and then if you want you can mod it from there and take it to wherever your preferences change in the future. I hope to keep finding boards like that throughout my journey.
I have a recommendation for a nice foamless board (albeit a bit hollow so you should use polyfill or smth) parallel sequence. i have one myself and i enjoy that no foam sound
This video is like an history of mods evolution for mechanical keyboard, great stuff. Just like your previous video less=more sometimes and just throwing everything at a keyboard may turn out excessive and as always one must experiment to find that personal sweet point instead of just follow what's trending
I quite like the sound! I love how creative you are with the mods and going back to the “good old days” (ie 2020) when mechanical keyboards started trending
The problem I have with all the foam and tape mods and stuff is that after I tried them I realised my keyboard sounded just like every other tape modded foam filled board. There was no point in looking at boards or sound tests, because a 200 dollar board sounded the same as a 500 dollar board. I've started much preferring the sound of the actual board rather than the same sound emitted from every PE poron silicon foam modded taped up board. Not only is it more unique, it's actually preferable imo.
I can't think of another keeb-centric channel that competes with this one in terms of quality, writing and overall delivery of information. Hope to see more growth from the the channel soon. This is premium content.
I enjoyed the new school stuff (pe foam, etc) for a while then just bored of the sound in a few months when everyone's board had similar characteristics. Removed some foam, silicone and tape and went to a more OG build and was pleasantly surprised!
Really enjoyed the OG sound of this keyboard and loved the throwback to your old mods, when I just started watching your videos. thanks for the nostalgia:)
I am commenting just to help you get more visibility, since you deserve it! Appreciate the different builds, my favorite was the last one , the thockiest!
I really dig boards that don't have a lot of foam in them as they don't just sound like typing on a stack of foam, but an actual rectangle plastic or metal. Super Happy that Jacky Studios went with this classic approach!
Thanks for showcasing the various styles! This really made me think what do we really need in a keeb? Old School sounded cool! And new school is nice too! I say switch it up from time to time get best of both worlds!
This is my favorite Alice board by far. I say that because it sounds amazing in all three specs. I love it. I'm all about alu plate, no foam, GMK keycaps and a nice clacky switch on my keyboards. But this board seems like it sounds awesome with any switch, foam, and keycap.
My Q1 is pretty thocky and marbly and all you really need is fr4 or pc plate, force break, PE foam, tape mod and poly fill or cotton/tissue in the bottom
I have no interest in ergo style keyboard but I always know you will add an extra dimension to your reviews. As always this is educational and interesting. Thanks!
you are someone who is probably a huge contributor to keyboards that have foam mods, and that og sound is literally every board in existance from a year ago and prior
I don't see any real flex here, only bounce - when the whole plate/pcb assembly moves, not just the local area you're pressing, that's bounce - when the local area you're pressing deflects that's flex. It might seem pedantic, but it's an important distinction. There are a lot of bouncy keyboards, but very few flexy ones.
I cant wait to receive it whenever GB is done. I had a spring and sold it so I could get this. Its a fantastic board, but the right shift is too important for me.
This got me thinking. You put foam between pcb and plate, would you do that between pcb and base? For a sandwich style keyboard like a corne? Currently got foam in both, do you think that works best or some kind of sound absorbing material?
Any word on when the release will be and what pricing will be like? Btw Keybored, have you tried Gaffers Tape for mods? It’s a thicker cloth tape that you can use for tape mod and holee mod. My weapon of choice for modding. Less layers needed since it’s thicker. I believe it’s non conductive and is often used by stage techs for wire management. It also leaves no residue.
They said they will be doing the GB sometime in July. Pricing is supposed to be something around $350-$399? I have used gaffer tapes for video production before, but never on a keyboard! Will have to take a look!
@@Keybored I would also suggest taking a look at splicing tape if you haven't already. It's a fairly thick rubber tape used for electrical work. Maybe a tape comparison video in the future? Could be interesting to see. As always, appreciate the detailed work, Scott!
Love your amazing content that you're putting out! I was on the fence in grabbing an owl spring but then saw this, what are your thoughts on this board compared to the owl spring?
Can ya make a vid about f80se from foxlab its a pretty nice board u should do a review for it, and also i think you should do a mod with paper masking tape which instead of tapping it under the pcb try it on the pcb and under the switch, it makes a very poppy and nice deeper sound (at least for my f80se) and i think you should try it out (also sorry for my broken grammar lol)
Great content as usual. Your modded version is FAR superior to the default version. I actually modded my Wind-X in the similar way (thanks to you) and it sounds great compared to stock. I'd give another thumbsup for NY Pizza too :)
Didn't think it was really needed. The case itself is very dense and there wasn't much upper case resonance. The biggest issue with this board was more "hollowness" Vs. case resonance :)
Force break doesn't fix hollowness unfortunately. Force break is used to reduce the transfer of mechanical energy from lower to upper case to keep the lighter upper case from resonating. :)
That's a good think since the Freebird TKL has great sounds :) The sound of the bear is mid-level imo. Not bad, not mind shattering. But I did appreciate it has the classic non-altered sound. Unless you go crazy with all the mods lol
