  • The gate of elidinis is runescape's newest skilling boss, but some argue it really isn't; as it requires you to do PVM to even unlock it. Let's find out if these people have a point.

    Yeah, I agree. A skilling boss isn't necessarily a boss designed for level 3 skillers.

  • @duke605
    @duke605 2 часа назад +4

    I don't think the vast majority of people think of "skillers" as "level 3 skillers" when most people hear "skillers" they think "a person that primarily spends most of their time in game skilling." Jagex shouldn't cater to people that self impose restrictions on themselves. Get tf over yourselves and play the goddamn game

    Being a skiller is a self imposed method of playing. They play to skill not to pvm

      No but it should definitely accommodate for it when that playstyle is integrally baked into the player base and well recognized, in my opinion. Tons of people have skiller pures as main accounts and a culture undeniably exists around it, and they're being gated from content designed around that exact play style - even if that content wasn't expressedly created with them in mind. That's a bit silly when there are obvious simple solutions like removing or mitigating combat pre-reqs by allowing players to dtd through quests requiring combat and removing combat related level restrictions. I'm not sure why, at this point, skill pures aren't recognized as official account builds when even just in the recent past they've enabled xp blocking for skill pures.

      @@iamcrumb Ok sure, then I want all bosses to have story modes and make all boss fights drop items that need trim requirement in story mode and completely safe for hcims. Imho, players should never bend the rules as they like. Whats the point and wheres the challenge?

    I will be doing this boss on my skiller. Soon as I can beat that final fight. Which I fear might have to involve some deathtouched darts. I'm actually hyped for something again. Feels good. The intro we got during the quest was entertaining enough. I'm sure I'll enjoy the real deal too.

    Skilling and skilling pures are completely different. I maxed all my skills via skills. Did combat skills through Slayer like I'd imagine most people did. No weapon or armor=skilling boss.

    Croesus masses/public is actually pretty decent gp since the page rate higher than 4man and pages still hold value.
    Also I'm not sure if the people that like skilling bosses are the same that dislike difficulty. I think there's room for a fun difficult skilling boss.

      The most annoying thing I find with public instances at Croesus is that the strats vary wildly depending on the team size. Having 8-13 people is very different from 3-5, and not all public lobbies do a good job checking how many people are there.

    • @greycrimson3228
      @greycrimson3228 3 часа назад

      @@starlord225 I like the variety on team sizes personally, mixes it up a bit. Though it can be an issue when someone is following a set rotation and praying on the statue while 2 statues aren't restored, which happens from time to time. There usually aren't any issues with small teams, as people communicate before starting a 4man in public.

    Chev trying to call me out specifically. My boy woke up and chose violence.
    I think the most important thing y'all are forgetting is that the reason *why* skilling bosses are so popular on OSRS is specifically because they're so accessible, and are decent places to train skills. These are supposed to be minigames. That is not the case with either GoE or Croesus. You can't just log onto the Croesus world and enter the public instance; you have to build a team first or go solo. That accessibility is important for everyone, not just low-level players. RuneScape 3's number one problem is that its only consistent players are endgame PvMers. No one else plays the game, and the economy NEEDS noobs. We absolutely NEED something like Wintertodt, Tempoross or Guardians of the Rift.

  • @iamimbisile
    @iamimbisile 3 часа назад +1

    Ultimately, a skiller pure is still a pure. So, asking Jagex to make this content available to skiller pures is like asking for barrows gloves to be accessible to 1 defence pures. Making a skiller means choosing to arbitrarily limit yourself, and in doing so you forfeit your right to complain about requirements. These complaints are, in large part, why I left OSRS. The developers there have been pandering so much to ironman accounts that the game has become fundamentally designed with ironman in mind. Yet the point of ironman is to, again, arbitrarily limit yourself. What’s the point in making that choice if, afterward, you beg jagex to change and design the game to alleviate all the hardships you would otherwise have placed on yourself?
    Anyway…in terms of the design of skilling bosses, Tempoross, Wintertodt, and Guardians of the Rift (yes, I know it’s technically a minigame, but it’s functionally the same thing) are all designed as alternative training methods. In OSRS, these bosses have really revitalized their respective skills and given people a much more engaging and fun way to train otherwise boring and out-of-date skills. Obviously, jagex isn’t designing bosses for this purpose in RS3. As you say, skilling bosses in RS3 are just regular bosses that need to be defeated a different way. But just like other regular bosses, they aren’t feasible training methods. My problem with all this is that skilling on RS3 suffers from the same problems skilling on OSRS suffered from before the skilling bosses: most skilling involves standing in one place clicking once in a while and waiting for your character to act; or, you just run the same lap a million times. Skilling bosses COULD give new life to otherwise forgotten skills. These bosses could even be part of the level 110 expansions, instead of just making more of the same training methods, as they have been doing. Big game hunter is a great example of this. But, instead, jagex is doing what they always do: prioritize PvM and leave skilling as an afterthought.
    So, yes, you are correct when you say the new skilling boss isn’t something that needs to be available to skillers. But I don’t think a boss like this is particularly healthy for RS3. I think a boss in the style of Tempoross or one of the other training-type bosses would be a far better addition. I can’t express how much GotR changed Runecrafting in OSRS. The skill went from the #1 hated skill in the history of the game to something many people love to train. Giving a skill a boss that gives feasible xp rates allows people to train the skill in a more exciting environment, makes the skill more social, and even offers some nice rare rewards to chase along the way-no more sitting at a bank for hours using portables. That’s the kind of skilling boss I would like to see in RS3, and that kind of boss would need to be available to nearly everyone who has trained the relevant skills a to a moderate level.

    IMO though Quests should have a skip combat option. I don't personally see why it needs to be a requirement unless someone would like to counter that.

    I just want to know what the common loot is going to be so I know whether or not the boss will be worth my time. It's the same reason I haven't bothered with the Sanctum bosses since the achievement for the Elite Underworld tasks. That it's just not as great as people keep saying but that's beside the point.

    One solution would be to increase the drop rates of Croesus (and make soloable version) with higher requirements. I never bothered with that purely because it was forced group.
    This new skill boss I will farm to completion from day 1. But I don't think it will have longevity. Too few different drops, and the drops aren't comparable to Croesus. So it's kinda, eh, ya know? We will see

    • @greycrimson3228
      @greycrimson3228 3 часа назад

      I don't think Croesus needs any changes, as it is already has very high profit per hour and I think even decent profit in masses while having very high engagement rates.
      It doesn't need a solo version, as the boss was designed for group, which would make solo feel like it has design flaws or just feels like a bad boss.
      Group bosses are generally fine as a variety in difficulty. It adds meaningful social elements. Meaningful as in there are teamwork mechanics and it also makes the game more social.
      There are some flaws with group bosses like difficult grouping and high penalty for dying but not at Croesus, which has easy grouping in public and low penalty for dying.

    • @AlmightyJeod
      @AlmightyJeod 3 часа назад +1

      @@greycrimson3228 Nah. It needs solo mode. Runescape is Soloscape for the most part. Even back when Croesus was released.
      Making the first skilling boss not only so accessible, but group boss is what caused the problems in the first place. Doesn't matter if it has masses or not. Ton of people will avoid it. Masses full of bots because easy to bot and easy to access. Makes masses less fun. Most people don't know enough people to do it. So either do it with clan if they're in one and maybe that works out, or do it on mass (which always suck), or they don't do it at all.
      I personally have zero kills on Croesus. Over 100000 kills on numerous other bosses. Simply because of those problems. Skilling boss for me was the thing I wanted for the most and yet I never did it because those player requirements meant it's DOA. All my friends quit the game. Not interested in making new ones to play a single boss on a game I mostly afk anyway. Tons of issues like that. Promoting social in a game people treat as social is not gonna go well.
      As a result, Meaningful social elements my ass lmao.

      @@AlmightyJeod It doesn't need a solo mode. Group bosses are fine as a variety in difficulty. Croesus has been stated as the second most popular boss.
      There have been group bosses in the past, Croesus isn't the first one. Those have other issues though, like higher death penalty, unlike Croesus.
      There are no problems in the first place. People don't avoid it because it's the second most popular boss, so the variety in difficulty works. There aren't any bots in public instances, those are in private instances. You don't have to know people to do it since masses are fine but there is also options for the Croe fc which has quick team forming and an option for discord groups as well.
      Again, there aren't any problems. It's fine if you just talk to your friends while doing bosses, which you seem to want to do. You can find friend during bossing, even more so at Croesus, which isn't intensive, so you can make friends there and talk to them there. Social elements make the game feel alive and meaningful social elements make it even more fun.
      I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a solo only skilling boss and maybe releasing the first skilling boss as a group boss wasn't the best (even though there had been a gap between group bosses, so it was the right time).
      It's just that you can't deny the game having just a fun group boss, a beginner group boss. Both can exist.
