Solid video. As for sending audio to your iPhone… I have a 15 Pro Max and I’ve managed send audio directly to it (via usb-c) with my Sound Devices Mixpre6II and I’ve also tried it with a Zoom f3 before and it worked as well. I imagine the MVX2U will work as well with an IPhone 15 Pro Max (though I can’t say with 100% positivity).
Interesting video. Would the +60db of gain from the MVX2U not make the Fethead redundant? I can see you had it set to +25, I wonder what would happen to the ratio you mentioned if you turned it up all the way. Also no plans to change to the Shure SM7dB to drop the Fethead entirely?
I used it straight away with the Fethead, and then I boosted the gain on the MVX2U enough so that I'd get a decent level. The idea is that the Fethead gives cleaner gain than the MVX2U. I'm going to make a video on the MVX2U very soon, and I'm going to do some more recordings without the Fethead, experimenting with different amounts of gain. If I turned it all the way up, without the Fethead, if would probably introduce quite a lot of noisier gain, thus adding more hiss. I'll expeirment further with that in the upcomgin video though. I have seen the new SM7dB, but since I've already owned the SM7B for years, and I already have the Fethead, buying the newer microphone would be redundant in my case. Even if the new mic has marginally better sound to noise ratio, it wouldn't be worth it, since I already have the original mic. However, if Shure wants to send me the new mic to review, I'd happily do that 😂
