Apple iPad Pro M1 2021 Worth It? For Illustration & Procreate Digital Art (Digital Artist Opinion)

- Are you a digital artist or illustrator looking to see if the new iPad Pro M1 2021 (5th generation iPad) worth the upgrade versus the 2020 (4th Gen) iPad Pro or maybe the iPad Air? In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts as a professional artist and illustrator who uses the iPad Pro and Procreate daily to create illustrations for both personal and client work.
Some months ago I did a full video telling you guys what's the best iPad you can get depending on the use you will be giving it. You can check that video here: Apple iPad Air 2020 or iPad Pro for Procreate Illustration & Digital Art? • Apple iPad Air 2020 or...

Personally, I don't think the new iPad is worth the upgrade right now, as it's a bit overpowered for the current apps. I decided to stick to my iPad Pro 1TB (4th Generation) because it's just what I need. You can always go with the get the iPad Air, or the iPad mini if you are just starting out and you will be perfectly fine.
Let me know in the comments what you think.

This is not the latest Apple iPad, but it is faster than I thought. It has a great screen and it holds a charge pretty well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . I was concerned that it would not be powerful enough because I have several older iPads that are slow and cannot update to the latest software. But this 10th Gen has the speed and power. I do not use it for video editing, so having an M2 processor is not necessary for me. This iPad model has an A14 processor. So far so good. Glad I bought it. It helps having a larger screen compared to my Apple phone.
Two thing to note if you're buying a new iPad: 1) check out what apps are *planning* to implement, 2) make sure you consider your own career path thoroughly. On the first point, even Procreate is planning to introduce some light 3D functionality to bolster their toolset- this will make use of the power, for sure. So while Procreate runs fine on an older iPad, that will not always be the case of course. On the second point, there are apps which *some* illustrators use that will take advantage of the power. For instance, apps like Nomad Sculpt- where more power is quite helpful.
I have previously never owned an iPad and the new M1 iPad Pro(12.9/1Tb) is my first iPad purchase. I’m an illustrator/fashion designer and I’m hopeful that Procreate will be able to take advantage of the RAM increase.
M1 chip is great but ipad os is not going to fully utilize it... Apple will never do that because they want to sell macbooks also
@@dineshkumarnarwade9505 (sigh) 😩
@@dineshkumarnarwade9505 makes sense. I am one who has been fascinated by the new M1 chip and also wanted to try illustration. So it seems just get the Mac book and maybe a 4th generation iPad? Ps I bought a new Mac book air for my niece and have to say I'm quite jealous. 😔
@@rashadd2615 hey man can you please help me i think u have a lot of experience about apple.
I am a medical student so note taking on ipad is kinda nevessary for me. And i also wants to do illustrations and animation. Which one is better in your opinion ? Ipad pro m1 or macbook + ipad ?
@@tausif9838 Well first let me say that I am not the expert on apple. But since I made my comment I did purchase the m1 pro ipad. It’s a great 2 in one experience… meaning you have the tablet part for drawing and note taking while also you can pair it with a keyboard to give you a laptop like experience. Don’t know much about animation but can say for programs like photoshop or doing coding that the MacBook is probably the choice to pick. Maybe watch a few vids on animation with the ipad vs the MacBook Pro and hopefully that can help with making your decision.
I'm just getting started with digital art as I'm hoping to become a web comic writer and illustrator at just the hobby level, nothing professional.
While expensive, the M1 iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil 2nd generation is just a dream to use and it works flawlessly with Procreate. As someone who does this very casually for a hobby I could have probably stepped down to a cheaper iPad like the latest iPad Air and have been just as happy with the performance though. I have some regrets but at least the iPad Pro will be a solid choice for many years to come so I'm going to hang onto it. Nothing wrong with having a little extra power but i don't feel like I use it all which I guess is a good problem to have.
What are the biggest regrets that you have?
It’s always best to buy more than you need than to buy less and wind up not having what you need.
For 3d model it's better to choose ipad pro or ipad air? 🙏
@@dejunartawan pro because 120hz refresh rate
I have a 2020 ipad pro and at the end of the day if your an artist both devices are pretty much the same you can draw the same thing on last year's model
It's comforting to see a professional illustrator using only one hand while using Procreate. I always thought I'm too noob for not being able to use both hands to use the many shortcuts in Procreate or to change brushes like I always see in those speed paint videos 🤣
Don't worry to much about this, everyone has its own way 👍🏼
i recommend getting a custom keyboard for procreate.
I absolutely love my iPad pro M1 2021 as artist, business owner, writer, and taking those personal fun moments. Well worth. It.
Stuck between the 11 & 12 inch. I read a lot of manga so the 11 would be perfect since I can hold it in my hands easier but I’m also an illustrator so the 12 inch one would definitely be better for that.
Im using a 7th gen ipad and adobe sketch….im also using a 3rd party pen that ive used for over a year now…i think its more about talent than equipment when you do illustration professionally…but i do plan to upgrade to an ipad pro maybe in 2 years
It’s somewhat true but it’s also true that a good tool to work with can improve your workflow, remove any technical barriers and give you more flexibility. So if you are talented already having a great tool will boost all up quite a bit :)
I have the 3rd generation iPad pro and it’s still hard to convince myself to upgrade. It’s still flawless.
Thanks for the considered advice. Incidentally, it is nice for me to see an artist who cares about aesthetics not only in regard to her work, but also in regard to dress, home furnishings, interior design, etc. Everything in your video spoke of an aesthetic outlook. Just lovely. Thank you
Thanks Paul, much appreciated, we work hard on those details :)
This was really helpful! Thank you for the review from illustrator's perspective!
Thank you so much :) glad it helped
I have iPad Pro 2020, but I preordered Pro 2021 12.9” because is amazing
That’s so cool. Enjoy 😊
I have the new Mac Book Air. That M1 architecture is amazing! You’ll love it. I am _seriously_ lured by my favorite tool with the M1
That’s what I’ve heard ⚡️ I’m going for the M1 iMac
These are valid tips. Most of the stuff you mentioned boils down to what you do as an artist (personal taste). I've never owned an iPad before but I've been watching many videos on them and the iPad air seems like a good pick for someone like me. Not too much in the price point but very usable to create art not matter the skill level.
I upgraded 2020 iPad Pro to have 16Gb of RAM and thunderbolt port.
can i have the 2020 D; xd
Lol
The point I havent seen much yet mentioned in the forums; The sidecar from M1 iPadPro to Mac(Mini) M1 works amazingly fluent with no mentionable lag from my experience! It has gotten way better than it used to be! As an graphic designer, working with desktop Adobe Illustrator on iPadPro M1 is really sweet experience. Ability to switch over to actual computer and back to ipadpro for hand drawn details is lovely! This i think really challenges if there is anymore need to concider any bigger and more expensive drawing display..
My 2017 12.9 is starting to struggle with some stuff so I am upgrading, I want to have more than 15 layers too lol.
I have been doing graphic design and illustration for a very long time - in fact, I used to develop design and illustration software - and I agree with pretty much everything you have said EXCEPT I think you are vastly underestimating how much superior the XDR display will be. Of course if one already has a 2018 or 2020 iPad and/or isn't doing professional work, then I can understand holding on to those existing devices. I have been using a 2017 10.5" iPad waiting for either an OLED or a microLED display to come to the iPad, and now it's here… and the specs are superior to what I had been expecting in terms of brightness and contrast.
Thanks Miles, totally get your point, if jumping form a 2017, either to the one I have or to the new one is a quite impressive difference 👍 for now just the screen alone is not so much to change, considering my 4th gen screen is great still :)
@Tweed Penguin Having acquired the new 12.9" iPad, and having seen them side by side, not only is viewing HDR content vastly different, but the 100 nits of increased brightness on SDR content is noticeable.
I've been working in the field of computer graphics in a highly technical capacity for almost 40 years: I don't think I'm "giving into stupid hype".
I'm looking to become a professional Illustrator, and I found this to be very useful advice. I might justify the new Ipad purely because I have plans to double it up as a gaming laptop, but I agree with everything you said regarding the irrelevance of the new features to an illustrator. Thanks! :)
I’m working with the first gen iPad professionally still. I’m thinking now to switch to the new one, but every iPad is capable to draw. Even the mini.
Totally 👍🏼😊
Is it worth to upgrade from sec gen iPad Pro for animation and illustration/painting/drawing type of work? And if it is is it better to buy the m1 one or other one? ( I might buy new one eventually as my screen is getting weird yellow markings on the screen because of faulty LEDs )
@@AtomekKotalke M1 ipad is a beast in terms of performance especially if you deal in animation.
If you need to buy a new one then sure, the M1 for animation will perform better. For illustration still the same as the 4th Gen
After 10 years with Android I'm switching back my entire ecosystem to Apple. My new iPad Pro will be the first step.
Yeah I switched back to Apple as well (came from Samsung). Although Samsung products often have better specs, I feel like, at least right now, Apple is just very user friendly and works well with all the apps I need it to.
how do you guys like it so far? does it work well?
Thanks for the review! My biggest difficulty as an artist with an ipad is that you still need another screen with all the image references we need to illustrate. For example, in your video you’re painting that tiger. Did you have a photo of a tiger somewhere to help you? Or maybe some architectural reference for your pillar? Of course, you probably draw from memory but you understand my meaning. I have my work screen and also my reference screen. An ipad with a laptop is probabaly the best portable combination. You draw on the ipad and you do your research on your laptop.
Hi Lino, totally understand ⚡️ in my case if I work with references I have them on my desk or in my computer in front of me :) sometimes even with split screen on iPad
@@AsiaOrlando good to hear. Have you ever tried sidecar? I’m just curious if it can improve the workflow. Ah but procreate is an iPad only app.
Hi 👋 yes I have, I made a full video about it - it’s my iMac M1 video - I talk about sidecar and how I work with my iPad
I’ve got the first Gen iPad Pro with the big bezels and the first Gen Apple Pencil that charges in the port. It’s also the smaller model (the 9.7” one). I’m really considering getting the new M1 iPad Pro and getting the larger screen. I’ve got a degree in graphic design and a minor in photography but I took multiple illustration classes (and some digital illustration classes) that I really enjoyed so I love having the option to just use my iPad rather than connect my Wacom tablet and work in photoshop while tethered to my desktop lol
when you work with graphics the screen and colors are like no.1 priority... depends on the work i guess, i mean there are artists who prefers black and white.. but the old ones will just not compare at all to the XDR screen. Going from LED to OLED for my PC was an immense upgrade. i'll purchase this one for the screen alone.
@@samuelmanny6231 yes, that's what i said, colors, obviously i mean accuracy + dark blacks etc. you must calibrate to get any kind of color accuracy on PC. I have the Datacolor SpyderX Pro, works great and makes a big difference obviously... Laptops are crap overall, they get hot and the specs are not as good as a PC you create from scratch, which i've always done..
As for ipad they are calibrated from the factory for color accuracy, a XDR screen will make a big difference with its darker blacks etc.
I’m going from the iPad gen6 to the the iPad Pro 2021 and I’m so excited. That’s a huge upgrade since the iPad six doesn’t even have a ram XD
That’s one great jump:) ⚡️
I first felt i am the only person who gonna update from the 6. gen to the 2021 iPad pro 11‘ inch, and felt a bit wrong if i really need it.
But now i am sure because i currently use the 6. Gen as a note taking device for school , sketching/ drawing portraits and using it somehow as a computer. I have often heating problems in the upper side (there is the a10 SoC) and i have a feeling that it could not last enough. So its gonna be for me also a huge step ( i am gonna buy it around August).
Hi Asia! I was happy to see on IG btw that you’ll be coming back to RUclips soon 🥳 I just treated myself to a new iPad Pro 2020 1TB and your video gave me a positive nudge to just do it and buy it :) I’m excited for it to come tomorrow! I’m thinking whether I should keep my old 2015 iPad as a backup. I also have a good old and small 9.7” 2016 iPad Pro (mainly used as a reader).
I went for the XDR display with 128GB. I'll buy an external ssd later after all it has thunderbolt.
In the near future a category of m1 apps only working on those ipads and m1 macs might be a possibility.
Can you tell me more about the external ssd please? I mean can I get a 256GB and still can have an option to get more gigabytes ???
The external SSD to expand storage is great, but have in mind that most of the apps will still use the internal one to work, save the cache and all ... for example, Procreate will use the internal storage to save the files, you can export them but it has to be manually, and If you open a file from an SSD, it will automatically copy it to the internal drive etc. My point, external storage is great if you don’t work on large projects or you don’t mind saving externally frequently 🍃
@@AsiaOrlando
Thankkkk you , you’ve helped me a lot ♥️. I just wanted to ask you, I’m going to buy it for university slides, drawing, playing, watching and those stuff. What do you recommend me to buy because it’s kind of expensive and I still can’t decide which one to buy. The 12.9 which gb?
This video was really useful, thank you!
Will definitely worth it to upgrade coz of the increased RAM so more layers but 2020 ipad pro will work just fine still
If you can take advantage of those layers sure :) ⚡️
For me it’s the size. I do a lot of client work at huge sizes that my Gen 1 iPad Pro couldn’t handle. But I still haven’t gotten an answer if that will affect procreate or affinity
Loved the video as an absolute beginner trying to learn what my iPad could be used for. Also, big fan of “terabyte” :)
I have been using my Ipad pro 2017 32gb. until this morning, since it has broken, so I have been researching what models there are now. And as an artist, who makes a living from it, selling art at conventions and doing commissions, my old Ipad has always been more than enough. So my conclusion is that any new Ipad will be enough to draw. But if you want to edit videos or play games, which is much heavier, that's where you can consider what features you need.
do you use a screen protector or paperlike when u draw? Just subbed good video
Welcome! One of the iPads has a paperlike installed 👍🏼 I did a full video on that 😊 be sure you check it out ⚡️
Make sure to get the 16GB of ram version for your iMac & yes I would like see a video about it
Is there any other version 😉
@@AsiaOrlando Yes, there are 8GB version & i don't think that would be enough for you
I know that was my point 👍
I agree with all your points. As a designer, I'm not sure its worth it
Thanks Amina, just sharing my thoughts from someone that uses it daily 😊
Thanks for the review! I’m also an illustrator stepping into the professional world, and I use a 9.7 inch iPad Pro 2017. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to the 12 inch screen for bigger ram and more layers, but I’m not sure if I should get the newest one or save with the 2020 model if I only use Procreate on it everyday. I get it’s good to future proof myself but I don’t even use the 3D features that procreate has, so I’m not sure if I need to spend on the M1 processor. It would be a big leap to upgrade to either 😅 What do you suggest?
To be honest, I would rather wait for the new 2022 model
i mean it doesn't mind if you use a 2020 ipad for 2021. just mean it
If you are considering upgrading to the new iPad Pro watch this first and let me know what you think :) are you going to upgrade?
Look into the Mac mini instead of the iMac! You can get all the same features (of course you need a monitor), but at a fraction of the price.
I’m going to upgrade but from iPad 7, so I think it will worth
what size is just right? 11" or 12.9"? or iPad air is ok?
I would say 12,9, an the iPad depend on the use you’ll give it 👍
I didn't hear u mention about the RAM which make a bit difference in procreate layers and bigger canvas for large printing purpose..😁
128-512 GB comes with 8GB RAM
1TB-2TB comes with 16GB RAM
✌️
Hi 👋 I always mention this :) but have in mind I have the iPad Pro 4th gen and the Air don’t have so much RAM 👍 Ill probably update for the 6th gen in 2022
I think to work with 2d animation , and the ipad pro with m1 ist amazing solution because of 16gb ram that you can habe , i need much Lears as possible
Might be great for 2D animation for sure! Will be great to see how the apps take advantage of the M1 power ⚡️
@@AsiaOrlando yes me hopping too
Same here I m of the opinion that we shud wait for Procreate update to utilise the power of m1 16 BG ram
I am an ilustrator. I have been working on an old iPad Air 2, which still works fine! I am going to buy the iPad Pro. About specifications: Do you prefer the 11" or 12.9" screen, and except for the size, does it effect how you approach your work? Do you think 256GB is enough storage? Will 256GB limit your layers in Procreate? Thank you for your video, very helpful.
Always 12,9” and definitely 256GB will not work for me, and layers in procreate are defined by memory not hard drive - that being said the 1GB comes with more RAM
Yes
But i will still go for 256 LTE the new one for €1479 because i do not have any iPad until now !
I’m planning to get the exact same configuration. iPad Pro 12.9” 256GB 5G. But I’d prefer OLED or MicroLED. I don’t understand, how can artists not care for contrast accuracy?
Another thing worth considering is whether the new IPAD allows bigger size say A0, 300dpi with at least 5 layers in Procreate.
Maybe Procreate is currently upgrading the relevant.
Thank you for the review. I thought that the new iPad with M1 chip makes other older iPad somewhat useless. I just use my 2020 iPad for drawing only.
All iPads are great, this new one is great as well but the others are perfectly in shape to do professional work 👍
Looking to upgrade for the ipad pro 2021 1TB because i heard it has 16 GB ram. It means more layers for procreate with bigger size canvas which I am aiming for. I really love the ipad and procreate combo for drawing.
Like you I do 2D illustration but mainly as a hobby. I actually bought the cheapest 2019 ipad for £300 and it's been very good value for money. Bought an apple pencil second hand for £50, a £10 matte screen film, and have been doing some nice work.
I'll upgrade if I want to start doing things for print though, on my model you only get 11 layers for an A3 sized, 300dpi canvas. A pro would probably do double/triple that.
The upgraded processor wouldn't let you use more layers in procreate? That would be a pretty big deal for me with the way I work.
Hi Sarah, it will do! Totally! for me, that alone is not worth investing so much when the 4th gen has been such a great companion :) and I do large print formats & billboards, and it's extremely still capable. But yes, if you need many many layers, on huge canvases, then extra layers might be good to have :)
@@AsiaOrlando I have the 2018 and still extremely capable. I upgraded though because of the screen, and hoping for better battery with the M1.
@Asia Orlando - For the illustration work that you do, is the iPad Pro 12.9" 1TB sufficient or do you wished you got the 2TB? Thank you
I only do art as a hobby, and I've only ever done traditional art, so I was sure that I do not need the iPad Pro and would be fine with the Air. However, when you compare prices of the M1 and Air, there isn't much a difference and I feel like the Pro would be more worth it? I'm still not sure what iPad to get. ://
Same here! :(
If you do art as a hobbie I would get the Air
@@AsiaOrlando I got the Air a couple of days ago and I am so glad I did!! I got the 64gb one and I've saved so much money. I am so in love with it, I've been using it non-stop. Thank you for this video and this reply. :)
That so great to hear :) enjoy 😉
Pro! If you are good with the price you should definitely buy the iPad pro! Hope this helped :)
Love your art, love your voice, great video, inspiring and soothing! You say the ipaid is great for non-pro work. What about the 120hz vs 60hz for drawing. As a pro, do you feel it makes a big difference?
Pro artists and still using my iPad Pro 3rd gen and it basically laughs at everything I throw at it.
That’s great to hear :)
I don't think ipad require extra cpu power I don't see a reasonable reason for upgrading
Bad Apple we all know if the Ipad 11inch also had XDR the 12inch would be invisible to most buyers, so in a few months the iPad 11inch XDR will come out after 12inch has reached a good enough sale, bad Apple forcing us to pay more because of impatient.
Get what you mean ⚡️ I’m just going to invest in a new iMac 👉 maybe 6th gen iPad next year or maybe they’ll finally create an iMac that can support Apple Pencil
@@samuelmanny6231 Respectable point, I still prefer 11inch model 2021 but I'll wait for the reviews
Hi! Just came across your video’s! I’m starting out as a tattoo artist and will work with procreate.. which iPad would you recommend?
Hi Keshia ;) I did a full video on the alternatives, but the new air or even the mini should work 😊
Skip the mini. That canvas size is waay too small.
I known you asked Asia, not me, a barely known artist. But for tattoo work you can even use the basic iPad. It is cheaper and it will give you enough layers for tattoo art. I am using the 2018 basic iPad to do midsize color illustrations. So, for tattoo art, with flat colors and some shading it will work fine.
u should wait for an imac pro
But that's for a different client base.
Please let me know ,you do all the professional work on procreate only
photoshop or other adobe programs? Im mainly at my stationary windows computer, but with newborn, I cant sit at the computer so I need smth to draw illustrations, use photoshop, lightroom, and for my webpage and social media. there is not so much price difference between the iPad pro 11 M1 and iPad pro 12,9 2021 year. or even iPad air in the same year. so what you would recommend buying?
They better fix the 2021 screen issues first before I consider getting it. The shadows around the screen edge. So I’ve heard in other videos. Also heard that the screen seems like it’s not right up against the glass. So I hear. Hmm. I’m upgrading from first generation pro. 2020 should be more than what I need.
Hi I remember you said once that you don't use the screen protector. So need your advice. How did you get used to the slippery screen and still have control. Is it just practice and you got used to it or is there any technique? With my screen protector i get wonky lines but i an not sure this is coming from the screen protector.
Mine will arrive the end of June. I am upgrading from a 2016 iPad Pro (the small one) and looking forward to the new larger one. I opted for 12.9 1 TB and WiFi (no 5G). The price hurts now but hopefully will be forgotten in a couple of months. I am turning in my old 2016 iPad to Apple for $190 to make it hurt less.
It will be totally worth it if you keep it as long as you kept your air I think
I would like to buy it later when I got money
Huge procreate update coming for m1 support.
Hi, i cant decide between ipad pro 4th 12.9 vs ipad pro 3th 11", 6gb ram its too poor right now? I will only use for procreate
Is there is way that finished procreate artworks can be saved someone other than the Ipad storage itself? I'm trying to decide how much memory I will need.
My last piece of artwork is too big for Procreate on the iPad Pro 1TB 4th Gen to render the 4K time relapse. I wonder if this new iPad would have enough power to export the video?
It might have - but might also depend on a Software update.
I still prefer my wacom 24 jnch over ipad I cant get used to using sooooo many gestures
Would be amazing to have a 24 inch ipad also :) or iMac with pen support
I want one for Photoshop. Cool stuff though!
Hi. I am planning to buy 2021 iPad pro 11" . First time buyer.
Would it be ok to buy 128gb model (lack of enough budget) and use apple cloud for additional memory support?. How much memory does a non-professional illustration work consume at an average?
For 3d models it's better to choose ipad pro or ipad air guys? 🙏
Same but you need the Pencil with Umake or Shapr
I may be asking for much, but I was wondering if you would do an m1 iMac review for art if you ever got one? Thanks.
I'm planning on doing something around that, I'm receiving it at the end of June, stay tuned :)
I'm planning to buy one but i'm confused about the screen protector. May i know what u use?
Never had a chance to use any iPad pro... Dunno what it feels like to use a powerful device to illustrated.
Hey I would like to ask about your opinion on it now? Since one year has passed since you posted this. I'm looking to buy my first iPad and am sort of indecisive whether to get the newest model which is still the 5th gen, or to buy the 4th gen, that i can actually get for half the price.
I’m sceptical about the m1 processor, I recently got the new Mac book with the m1 processor and it’s been disappointing, it struggles with basic colour adjustments when working on large files and the lack of a USB port is annoying, you need an adapter and on a daily basis I need to unplug and reconnect my cintiq and hard drive, thumb drives for these devices to connect
i have one of them qled tvs and it makes your black look better. but it is not going to help you with drawing as its never going to look the same on other tvs and when printing.
Hi! Can you please tell some jobs for digital art/creative illustration?
I'm just starting digital painting and have the 1st gen iPad pro but a family member wants it for something else. I do lots of pro photography and want to get into alot of 3d modeling for resin printing and want to do digital painting. Should I wait or get the 3rd gen or get one of the newer ones. I don't have alot of cash so the newer one will have to be payments
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Any feedback from a photographer friend who uses it for editing photos?
Hi yes, actually my husband uses it for photo, actually he has a 3rd gen pro and it’s fine for Lightroom’s I would presume with the new M1 can be even faster and better for photography 👍🏼
@@AsiaOrlando thank you 😊
God dam I just brought a new iPad Pro 11 a couple weeks ago🥲
Tell me, is it worth overpaying and buying iPad Pro 11 (m1) ?
So I can stay on it for 10 years or will the 2020 iPad come here?
For productivity and durability purposes.
10 years is too much, I promise if it last two full ones without them releasing something awesome or new feature that will make you change it . That being said - go for the M1 or if you can wait a couple of month for next one, you can buy the M1 cheaper …
@@AsiaOrlando I choose between iPad 11 2020 / iPad 11 m1 / iPad Air 2020
hello.. thanks for the video.. it helps a lot.. can you tell which iPad pro are you using in this video? iPad 11 pro or iPad 12 pro??
Hi, it's the 12
@@AsiaOrlando oh ok ty
I'm stuck at gettin the ipad pro 12.9 and samsung tab s7+, i just want to start digital art as a hobby ! i wonder which one is suitable for the occasion
iPad no question if you ask me.
Is it worth to upgrade from sec gen iPad Pro for animation and illustration/painting/drawing type of work? And if it is is it better to buy the m1 one or other one? ( I might buy new one eventually as my screen is getting weird yellow markings on the screen because of faulty LEDs )
If you need to update, I would say the Pro 4th gent is still amazing for all you mentioned. If you can spare the difference, then go for the M1. That's my opinion, it will all depend how you use it.
@@AsiaOrlando Thank You for the answer! I definitely need to think about it. It’s very good device for art making and I still use my older one a lot even with faulty leds, it’s just so great to make art with it, it’s not yet that noticeable but I’m a little bit worried knowing that the screen might stop working in the near future (yellow markings on the screen near bezels is not a good sign ). I guess it all depends on the price? The older iPad and the newest one are not that different from each other and I could make my work done on either one of those. Again Thank you for the answer! And I just wanted to say that you make beautiful illustrations and very nicely done videos. This one is definitely very helpful. 💜
Thank you so much :) really happy that helps and thanks for the super nice words
I just get ipad pro m1 12.9 inch 128gb can i use to store procreate data on external ssd ???
I have the first generation iPad Pro 12.9 inch. Does anyone here knows if the new iPads pros work better with procreate or does it have the same limitations as the first iPad Pro 12.9? I’m trying to find out if the limitations are the same and if it’s even worth upgrading to the newest iPad for use with procreate?
I have the 2nd generation iPad pro and work between procreate and Photoshop but I have a problem with importing a psd into procreate as it won't work. I've read that it might have to do with the layers when importing a psd into procreate but will I have this problem if I upgrade my iPad to the newer latest model?
For the first time!!!!!! first :))
Congratulations 😊
Hi, do you use a matte screen protector or the silicon pencil tip for friction on the glass surface? Do you use it directly on the glossy screen? Thanks
Mostly glass 👍🏼
@@AsiaOrlando wow... heard many talk about smooth surface hindering the flow and some went with matte (paper feel) screen protector (I know most of these are promoted ads) and some saying they went with silicon tip to get that grip.
I did a full video on paperlike and why I prefer to work the way I do :) be sure to check it out 😉
@@AsiaOrlando I will check now
Hi! Sorry, If 2021 11" is the same price as 2020 12.9" , which one would you recommend? Just for drawing and some short animation
I doubt between bigger size and more ram & m1's future.
If its for hobby and light work I would go with the 2020 12
@@AsiaOrlando thank you sm
How about layer because new one have more ram and can use 2nd pen?
Hey, with more RAM you have more layers yes
what size screen do u have 11 or 12 inches? is the 12-inch screen worth the extra money over the 11 inches?
She has the 12 inches model, there is a difference in the brightness between the 11 and 12 model
What screen protector do you recomenmend?
I only used Paperlike, did a full video about it 👍
Which matte screen protector do you use...??
That one is from paperlike 👍 there’s another video about that
Are you using a screen protector?
In one of the iPads I have a paperlike protector
Hi would the ipad air gd enough for professional illustrations on procreate?
Hi, it all depends of what you call professiona. All are capable of producing excellent work, now if your client ask for a huge billboard then is the iPad Pro might be the choice. But for the air is perfectly fine for everything else
Hey im wondering, how much storage/gb would you recommend for this ipad? I am starting out and in school for graphic design and would like to have the ipad until I graduate. And idea how much each project would take up?
It all depends on your project. Size, DPIs, etc. If you want to play it safe, the more the better I would say …
@@AsiaOrlando do you think 256gb is considered alot or should i just upgrade to 512gb. Could you put yourself in a student pov? Btw lets say dpi is usually 300
I have still my 256GB 3rd gen Ipad Pro as backup iPad, but If I had to do a full book I might run out of space really fast, and also performance issues with Procreate. But my 4th gen with 1TB is working perfectly, so I'll say 512Gb min, 1TB ideally 🤗
@@AsiaOrlando thank you so much for the advice!!!
i only use ipad 6 with 32 gb for about three years of proffessional illustrator . i mostly use i cloud for backup all the file . so i think youll be fine if its 256gb
I bought an ipad pro 2020 11“ 1 week ago and now I have issues if this was the right decision 😕 I draw with ProCreate
For most of things you should be absolutely fine, unless you work on big formats and need lots and lots of layers, or do heavy animation. Even so, Procreate on the 11 2020, will do just fine ⚡️
@@AsiaOrlando okay thank you
@@AsiaOrlando but the new update for procreate... does this only come on the new ipad pro?
Hi, I never saw procreate updating for only one iPad model, so I don’t think so, although the new M1 with more ram will immediately translate to more layers - and yet again, for most illustrators the amount of layer is already more than enough in the current generation iPads, in all canvas sizes. Way more than enough 😊
