  • It’s never been easier for skiers to access bigger mountains and more terrain. Resorts are being connected with gondolas and mega passes, and a heli, snowcat or snowmobile can get you almost anywhere you’d want to go in minutes. But if it’s quality over quantity you seek, why not try ski touring and get back to the essence of what makes skiing great - the feeling of freedom in the out of doors, the sense of accomplishment that comes from a challenge and the pure joy of cutting fresh tracks through pristine snow. There’s no better place to become acquainted with ski touring than where it’s a way of life - Europe. Marcus Caston warms up his touring kit in the very place it originated, Norway, before taking on a bigger challenge in the massively intimidating French Alps. Marcus teams up with Chamonix native Aurelian Ducroz and a pair of former World Cup racers (and ski touring rookies) Mattias Hargin and Erin Mielzynski, to face one of the region’s most noteworthy objectives.

Incredible video! I WANT TO DO THAT! I don’t need the film crew - I got my own GoPro! Makes me want to ski - and if I cant be on this mountain then on the closest mountain with snow! Marcus Caston and Erin Mielzynski are total ROCK STARS!!!

I get the feeling they got a little 9000' boost on the Aiguille du Midi tram before they started "powering themselves up a peak". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nailed it. There's something special about survival skiing on an ungodly exit too. But that's not for Outside TV.

The ski racer did not look at all out of her element. Turns are turns?
