    Hey, kids, I’m back! Did you miss me? Don’t answer that. Here I am, back in the glorious Guitar World studios in Bakersfield, California.
    Why am I back? Uh…to teach you how to rock, that’s why! I’m also here to talk about the brand-new Steel Panther album, All You Can Eat, which you are no doubt listening to right now! I came back just so that I could teach you how to play some of the incredible riffs on our new record, and I’d like to start with the song “If I Was the King.”
    This song is pretty basic rock and roll in that just about everything in it is based on either the minor pentatonic scale or the blues scale-the biggest scales in rock, right? These scales come in handy.
    Don’t just practice the Phrygian and Mixolydian modes-you should be basing everything on the blues and minor pentatonic scales. You might not listen to B.B. King very much, but everything he played is the foundation for all that Testament and Megadeth stuff you listen to, and it’s the foundation of Steel Panther’s music too.

    "BB King was a big influence on me... his tone and his... girth". Hahaha Satchel rules!

      For non-native English speakers: "girth" means, among other things, "waist" or "measurement round a tree" ;-)

    This is my favorite underrated Steel Panther song. It also has a badass solo

    I find it funny how he talks so much real stuff in between the character. Like leaving breaks and pauses in playing. The philosophical things on top of teaching the notes of it. The focus on style rather than the pentatonic. And he's so encouraging in the middle of joking in character. This is probably the most in-depth musical guitar lesson I've seen, his focus is so much on knowing what you play and why.

    I love to imagine a teacher saying
    "O.k children, we have a new music teacher in school 2day....."
    Then Satchel walks in.

    Those huge bends he does. I just feel like i'm gonna break a string when i try it. Like the one in the solo of death to all but metal. Beastly bend.

      If it was in standard e I’d agree but tuning half a step down gives you that extra bend space by half 😂

    This guy is good and it is nice to see someone play without using the whammy bar for all of the vibrato. BB King should be a huge influence for any guitar player because music is supposed to move you. Don't misunderstand me speed is good, I love thrash as much as the next guy but a good integration of blues will certainly widen your diversity.

    LOL...he was playing guitar before he was born...check Wikipedia if you don't believe him...I could watch Satchel's instructional videos for hours. He's so great at making it all seem like he's just a dumbass heavy metal guitar player, but you can tell he really knows his shit (or stuff...lol). Can't wait to meet all those guys when they tour with Judas Priest in October. Steel Panther may seem like a joke, but all those guys are massively talented.

    I was going to meet BB King once but one of the guys setting it up heard me tell a joke. I said, "after he meets me, he's just going to be BB..." They thought I was going to try to show him up so they called it off. Hilarious. I had no intentions of doing that. It was just a joke man.

      It's just personal taste... i hate fat necks like a gibson, i can't understand how people can play that shit. In the othe way, there are the super wizard Ibanez (17mm) that are delicious to play...

    • @sparky7718
      @sparky7718 10 лет назад

      Warren DeMartini and Randy Rhoads played wide necks... besides, neck width has nothing to do with sound.

    • @fredstclair8104
      @fredstclair8104 10 лет назад

      sparkymgtow I think they are talking about front to back not side to side. I know Rhoads liked a neck that was more like a '59 LP, but I'm not sure about DeMartini. I like a wide finger board, but a little thinner neck. I love my Music Man JP6.
