There is also many differences between the Philippines and Latin America. I think the main similarities are that both places are very Catholic countries where people use Spanish first and last names, many cities have Spanish names, occasionally words are borrowed from Spanish, the old towns like Intramuros, Vigan, or Zamboanga will have similar architecture to old Latin American cities, and that people have a somewhat European/North American way of thinking. However many Filipinos also have English or local Filipino first names and Filipino last names while Latinos (although this may vary from place to place) usually use Spanish first names and Spanish or other European languages last names (German last names for example are common in Argentina). Latinos very rarely have pre-colonial surnames while Filipinos very commonly do. Apart from the few old cities/neighborhoods in the Philippines, city streets and commercial/residential buildings are a lot more like Indonesia or Vietnam than Latin America. Apart from the Zamboanga region people don’t speak or know Spanish. Even there the Spanish is a dialect called Chavaceno and the difference are bigger than between Latin American Spanish and Spain Spanish. Filipino food is a lot more similar to other Asian cuisines than to let’s say Mexican food. Filipino culture clothing is sometimes a mix of Southeast Asian and Spanish but sometimes typically Southeast Asian. Parts of Mindanao especially the Bangsamoro region are a lot more similar to Indonesia or Malaysia due to it being largely Muslim and people speak dialects of Indonesia/Malay like Tausug or Maranao and also most people have Arabic, Malay/Indonesian and local Muslim Filipino first names and last names or sometimes English/Spanish first names with Arabic/Indonesian/Malay/ Filipino Muslim last names. The further southwest you go in the Bangsamoro region the Latin feel fades away into an absolute Malaysian/Indonesia vibe. The most southwestern province of Tawi Tawi is worlds away from anything Latin and is completely Muslim South East Asian. Sitangkai is a floating city of some 40,000 inhabitants that is not even built on land but on stilts with call to prayer and people in traditional clothing. This area is more similar to pre colonial Southeast Asia than anywhere else in Southeast Asia.

There's no competition but people can get a bit too offensive 😂 they're too emotional. Culture wise Philippines seems less asian because it's on our culture that we adapt really well to modern ideas, unlike others that don't even speak basic english language.
I have this mindset before but was changed when I was able to visit Thailand myself. I am triggered when someone say Thailand is better than Philippines. But now, they are completely different that there is no need to compare or rivalry. I just love how Thailand is and appreciation comes in. After that, there is no room for me to compare and be jealous with Thailand and I came to realize that you can still compare but in the positive way, no putting down, no matter which country is it.
Well to be fair, there are Thais who are comparing their Bangkok to Manila. Underestimating Metro Manila and saying that BGC is a city surrounded by slums. That if you"ll get out of there you"ll see slums everywhere. I think it's inevitable that people are comparing but anyway I love Metro Manila vibe. It's a mixture of old and new.
Hi, the Philippines is the only predominantly Christian country in Asia...hence, the vibes is very different among its southeast asian neighbors... its called the Latin of the Far East... it was under the Spanish regime for 333 years... the name Philippines itself came from King Philip II of Spain... the currency is peso same as Mexico Argentina Brazil etc.. their names like Juan, Maria, Jose these are spanish influence as well.. also the language is a combination of Spanish and Malay influence,

Many foreigners are like surprised and didn't expect that Manila or Metro Manila has these developed cities, like BGC, Makati ASEANA, Ortigas, Alabang etc. Thanks for visiting BGC so people would understand and see specially our South East Asian neighbors that we are progressing and not everything in Metro Manila are poor and slums😅😂
The oldest undeveloped area is Tondo the Devisoria Area and Navotas but this gonna change later maybe around 50 years more to become like BGC or McKinley Hells or in Cobao Area or Ortigas Areas
Walk from Jaime Velazquez Park in Makati to Washington Sycip Park. It will give you a good feel for Makati's best neighborhoods. A lot of the way is elevated walkways. And you can also go to Greenbelt after that
when you spoke , i agree that other people had mentioned prices were lower by comparison in thailand others even saying its more quite expensive in Manila..it took me aback when they'd say it when me being from the US, found Manila to be very affordable when comparing similar or same products... so thanks for confirming what i thought all along, i guess if you like a place over another, they will be a bit more prejudice!
These idyllic places are small bubbles of order in a larger container, and many tourists visiting the country base their experience wholly on these. Outside of the bubbles is the harsher reality that the majority of Filipinos experience.
Outside of BGC bubble (and several more CBD bubbles around the metro) is indeed the "harsher" reality of Manila. But to be fair, Manila is also a bubble in itself compared to the rest of the country. Go outside the capital you find pristine islands, 7,000+ of them, mountain regions, quiet towns, and more. I am not saying it's all nice and green outside the city, definitely there are poverty and hardships as well, but the overall vibe is more peaceful and pleasant compared to Manila.
@@bons244 Yes, this is true for every major city on the planet. The largest cities are full of wealthy and powerful people, and the streets and sidewalks are busy, but when you get outside the city to towns and especially rural areas things slow down. It is true that poverty can be found everywhere, in the cities and outside them.
2:48 I've seen BGC before it was developed when I was in grade school back in the 90's. It was an abandoned military camp full of trees ang grass. 7:41 You should try Batanes, the northernmost part of the country.
I've lived there for a few years in the past, and I'm going back there next Thurs. Yes your in the best part of Manila, but beware many other areas are not so nice, so be careful. Best way to travel around the country is by air, buses are ok but take a long time because of the traffic. I can recommend the famous Boracay island and Bohol is also very nice, many foreigners visit those islands.
Here is what I LOVE about PH - Less stress!!! As a tourist in Thailand, no motorbike and you are f*****!!! How will you get around? Tell me? Rip off Taxis, ok can do Bolt but it gets expensive and you have no freedom. On my last trip for two months I had a bike illegally (as I have no bike DL in my home country) so lucky I was not caught by police but if I had not rented a bike I would have done NOTHING, seen nothing, its too hard and now they are so strict with foreigners only, Thais no DL no problem, no helmet etc they dont care but forigners they will clam down on, but in the PH its so easy, no big deposits or contracts, take care of the bike, and all is ok, I had a great time there few months ago hired a bike went everywhere, no police checks they dont care, as long as you obey the rules and wear helmet, note most Pinos DO wear a helmet and are far more polite on the roads. Food was cheap and really loved it, found craft beer for $4 a pint! Beaches are better than Thailand for the most part, such clean clear water and pinos are very polite to foreigners unlike most Thais (So proud they were never colonized but still no DSS!! and $20 a day salary, great going!! FFS). Lets be honest both PH and TH are very unstable and risky countries for foreigners, keep you home at home and just travel light over there and enjoy!
Last time I was there on - Pinas vacay was in 2009. Planning to visit in a few years from now with my German gal pal (she’s in SF, I’m in NYC) Been watching other YT Vloggers on local places to eat like food trucks and local restaurants in Palengkes - which are super affordable. I see your criticism, but you probably needed to do some more research of cheap eats, etc… BGC and Makati area are a bit on the expensive side. I’m a NY’er and accept that my city smells like human piss, it’s dirty and crowded. But we have lots of other redeeming qualities. I think some your viewers are sensitive too. Do enjoy both Thailand and the Philippines 👊🏽🤙🏽🙋🏽♀️

Boracay is okay, but make sure u check the weather one week in advance before u go there, if its bad weather u are wasting your time. Boracay is good for 1 week at the most, there is nothing to do there really. There are no waves at the beach, lots of street hawkers and not much to do after a few days. Unless u want to sun bath on the beach, i have been there 3 times. Siargao is nice, but its mainly for surfers. But good to get a scooter and tour around, if u can stand being in the sun constantly. None of these islands have good hospitals, so be careful on the motor scooter if u are drunk,,,,,hahahaha
I’m definitely surprised that downtown Manila doesn’t have much poverty, run down buildings, traffic, reckless driving, and seems clean and developed especially since the Philippines is a poor country. To me it seems similar to developed places in South East Asia like Kuala Lumpur or Singapore in terms of development. I am curious to why you found Manila so different than other Southeast Asian cities?
I don’t think BGC accurately represents Manila, yes its great but how many locals can go there? Got a few km away and it’s so different. Not saying it’s bad I liked the Philippines, just how much things cost didn’t make sense to me when you can get better in Thailand for less.

Omgoodness Joh No Content, camera on you Only and only talking about the vibes - when doing these channels don't be lazy, do you research and go to popular places, like shopping malls - famous places - great food eating places - tallest building in Philippines etc. you have shown Nothing, just a walk over, no one wants a walk over if you've only got something Reallllyyyy interesting to say, you'll lose all of your followers by not having interesting talk about what you're look at and take your time, don't rush through and it's finish, you could do a whole 10mins or more video on one place if you think very carefully and interview shop owners in malls, I am pretty sure I saw a video of a guy who's made a whole heap of money on flavoured popcorn stores from scratch, look for interesting stories. Plus I have been to the Philippines and Cebu, there's great poverty, you're just in the middle of town, it'll be a wasted trip if you just keep getting content just this, talking about nothings, no content, just passing places , not showing a long winded pictures videos, maybe interviewing locals on the way to work and even asking them what do they do for a living?????? there's the slums - if you bought a massive bag of lollies and just stood on a corner all the homeless kids would come to you
You can only say that Philippines has cheaper products and services because of value of dollar vs peso compare to dollar vs baht. Inflation is too high here due to Digong-gong administration. If you want to live here, think again check your finances and businesses. It's too risky if you leave everything behind in your own country just to try and settle here because you saw that it's cheaper. It's not. Everything is expensive here.

Exactly, Filipinos are way too insecure and competitive. That's one big problem about them - they can't be supportive of others and can't innovate.
Hi, the Philippines is the only predominantly Christian country in Asia...hence, the vibes is very different among its southeast asian neighbors... its called the Latin of the Far East... it was under the Spanish regime for 333 years... the name Philippines itself came from King Philip II of Spain... the currency is peso same as Mexico Argentina Brazil etc.. their names like Juan, Maria, Jose these are spanish influence as well.. also the language is a combination of Spanish and Malay influence,
Hello sir welcome to the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 I SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR CHANNEL FOR SAYING THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY MOTHER LAND PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR VACATION GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A LOT OF FUN……. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 ITS MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 🇵🇭🇵🇭
My son is named after Jose Rizal. I am English, my wife of 12 years is a Filipina. We live in the boonies, but it suits us.
You know boondocks is
Derived from filipino word meaning mountain or rural highlands. Bundoc
I was about to suggest that you should wear a hat to protect your head from the hot sun but voila, you're wearing one now.😊
I have been to Thailand, Mexico and Peru. Philippines resembles more to latin american countries. From streets to architecture to culture to vibe. Visit these places and you'll see what I mean.
I love your videos but one thing that annoys me about anyone is when they over use a word.
You said "Vibes" so much . Anyone get annoyed by that word?
Keep up all the great work !
Totally agree
The Flipino vloggers use "guys" a lot.
Maybe it is only you. Wag ka na mandamay.
thanks for visiting Philippines! 🥰
Thank u so much Jon just roam around it has a long historical Area in Itramoros where the Spanish has built before
Siargao , El Nido , Kawasan Falls , Batanes , Banaue , and Boracay
We have everything in the Philippine. From 1st world city to 3rd world city and to historical city😂.From Southeast Asian culture to Spanish and American enfluences.Even in our language our local language mix with thousand of Spanish lone words. Then here english our second national language.Truly the Philippine is Asian with very diverse culture.
Jon, just say it. Its more westernized. As a Filipino we are not going to be offended. We are proud of our culture. It is what it is.
Hello Sir,thank you for visiting our country.Hope you will enjoy exploring whole city and the other neigbhoring places of manila.Enjoy your day and be happy everyday.Godbless you Sir.👍🥰🇵🇭
Wait until the subway train is finished , it can help the travel from one city to the other, this will transform the big city into a travel friendly city
New Philippine Subscriber here Man!!
Great to have the feeling of different vibes, Visayas is the island hopping region, next month is a festive in Bacolod city, to celebrate MassKara Festival, discover and have fun
Thumbs up 👍 Jon
Walk from Jaime Velazquez Park in Makati to Washington Sycip Park. It will give you a good feel for Makati's best neighborhoods. A lot of the way is elevated walkways. And you can also go to Greenbelt after that
new subs from PH ❤
Welcome to Manila & stay safe! 🎉🎉
when you spoke , i agree that other people had mentioned prices were lower by comparison in thailand others even saying its more quite expensive in Manila..it took me aback when they'd say it when me being from the US, found Manila to be very affordable when comparing similar or same products... so thanks for confirming what i thought all along, i guess if you like a place over another, they will be a bit more prejudice!
Thanks for a great, chill video.
Someone once told me Palawan Island...Nacpan Beach
Great video Jon, looks like you have nice weather too!
Welcome to the Philippines god bless you
Nice one sir... Be safe.... From Istanbul....

I've seen BGC before it was developed when I was in grade school back in the 90's. It was an abandoned military camp full of trees ang grass.

You should try Batanes, the northernmost part of the country.
Welcome to the Philippines brother
I've lived there for a few years in the past, and I'm going back there next Thurs. Yes your in the best part of Manila, but beware many other areas are not so nice, so be careful. Best way to travel around the country is by air, buses are ok but take a long time because of the traffic. I can recommend the famous Boracay island and Bohol is also very nice, many foreigners visit those islands.
I second Boracay .
Hope you'll enjoy your stay in the Philippines. Welcome
Polillo island is the best island near Manila
Welcome to the Philippines Jon and enjoy your first day in the Philippines take care 😊 🇵🇭
Welcome to our place! . . . Go to the provinces and islands. It's cheaper and scenic. 😊
Monsters Energy Drink is about $4.00 USD here in the US & That's about $1.20 in the Philippines
You can get them for $1.25 at Dollar Tree when they have them, even in the expensive San Francisco Bay area where I live.
Direct flight is now available Chiangmai => Manila on Cebu airlines during the high season.
I love the PI. Perfect, no. But the people make it an amazing place
Have fun and enjoy your stay in the Philippines. Your new friend here.
Appreciated this as someone who never went (always wanted to go) but spent all my time in Thailand you like heh
Do enjoy both Thailand and the Philippines 👊🏽🤙🏽🙋🏽♀️
great insights from a thai resident. go to palawan or siargao islands. you won't regret it
new subs from PH, Godbless you!
enjoy your trip !!!
Manila is Underated
@@danielito3766 pickpockets aplenty
In Manilla airport they asked for return ticket or not?
Last time i've been there and passport check they asked only when leaving country, but I see that lots people get asked to show tickets too.
Hi ser thanks a lot nice place nice vacation 🎉❤❤❤
When I am working, I hate silence and sometimes music can be too distracting so these vids on in the background are perfect. Glad to see you putting plan to action! Good luck Jon, RUclips is a harsh mistress. Don't forget if you need some professional photography or cinematography work done (like a channel intro, profile pics or an interview) hit me up, I need an excuse to go CM for the Lantern Festival anyway!
Try to book a plane ticket going to El Nido and Coron in Palawan, then visit Boracay Islands as well.
Try and travel around the Philippines. There are some good destinations.
By the way, what is your vlog camera and wireless mic please? Thank you.
Nice to be in a (mostly) English-speaking country Jon?
Welcome and enjoy , you can visit in Batangas province
Go visit Boracay..Palawan..Siargao new subscriber here Welcome to the Philippines sir
How can you walk under the heating sun, without any covering? As if
Welcome to the Philippines 🇵🇭
❤
Hey Jon, try to communicate with some locals by Hi, how are you doing? etc! hahaha
❤❤❤❤
the big mac index is the best comparison
❤❤ya welcome to philippines explore the metro Manila and go to the largest mall in the wold you call Mall of Asia BGC ,Bonicio Global City, and go to Mandaluyong.
Jon, don't try to change your style just to suit certain people - it doesn't work. Just do your thing, stay in your lane and expand as your capabilities expand. You can please some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time...(if that makes any sense)!
The cities in the south, Cebu and Davao are trying to modernize too.
Its your first day maybe you just see the expensive one because you are in the city but go outside the city and youll see...
definately unexpected journey.
You need to go to Tondo, you'll get a very different experience.
Have you been in Ortigas Pasig City , East wood Quezon City is also beautiful down there

Visit Baguio city summer capital of Philippines
condo expensive is in BGC compare to other place in manila
Any word that has 'ay' on them, like when you said Pasay. It's pronounced as 'eye'.
example: Pasay(Pah'sigh), Tagaytay(tah'guy'tie), mabuhay(mah'boo'high)
Got it???
who gives a fuck lol
the photobomber building always robs attention from Rizal monument itself..congrats!
yeah welcome to Ph sir. Ermita district is one ot older tourist destinations yeah 😂😂😂
And how can you walk long distances? That's a gift.
one foot after another
Start for Christmas season its ber month already and starting for rainy season too😂😂😂
Omgoodness Joh No Content, camera on you Only and only talking about the vibes - when doing these channels don't be lazy, do you research and go to popular places, like shopping malls - famous places - great food eating places - tallest building in Philippines etc. you have shown Nothing, just a walk over, no one wants a walk over if you've only got something Reallllyyyy interesting to say, you'll lose all of your followers by not having interesting talk about what you're look at and take your time, don't rush through and it's finish, you could do a whole 10mins or more video on one place if you think very carefully and interview shop owners in malls, I am pretty sure I saw a video of a guy who's made a whole heap of money on flavoured popcorn stores from scratch, look for interesting stories. Plus I have been to the Philippines and Cebu, there's great poverty, you're just in the middle of town, it'll be a wasted trip if you just keep getting content just this, talking about nothings, no content, just passing places , not showing a long winded pictures videos, maybe interviewing locals on the way to work and even asking them what do they do for a living?????? there's the slums - if you bought a massive bag of lollies and just stood on a corner all the homeless kids would come to you
It's not worth the bother really is it!
If you don’t like it then why tf are you here? 🤨

Go to Siargao
Jon, tourists visit visayas (islands)
Baguio Summer Capital for the President
Haha great to see the new hat

You can only say that Philippines has cheaper products and services because of value of dollar vs peso compare to dollar vs baht. Inflation is too high here due to Digong-gong administration. If you want to live here, think again check your finances and businesses. It's too risky if you leave everything behind in your own country just to try and settle here because you saw that it's cheaper. It's not. Everything is expensive here.
Hey Gwapo
