I don't think anything will ever beat getting to hear this song live. I waited through the concert hoping against hope...and right when it seemed the end and the band quieted down, Chip Davis said "welcome to the third half". This song began to play and I almost cried, I was so happy. That was about thirteen years ago.
@@selenopheria They used to tour the country every Christmas. I saw them a few times, but nowhere near St. Louis. They've stopped touring; the tours that have happened in recent years are a group who are licensed to perform their songs.
Isn't it wonderful??? This is cranked up in my car year round - can't ever get it too loud so I can hear every single thing. Just wonderful - I heard it in K-Mart one year, and I HAD to have it. By itself, almost (but not quite) as good as a Moody Blues song. :-))
It's not "lesser known" here in Barcelona. "Fum fum fum" is by far the most popular Catalan Christmas carol; there are more versions of it here on youtube.
I'm playing this exact piece for our Christmas concert as an 8th grade clarinetist. At first, it looked absolutely terrifying but after like a day of looking at it, it's pretty simple. For clarinet, we get the main solo parts and a lot of the melody which has a bunch of 16th notes grace notes especially on the second page(and this is clarinet 2). Our director said that this piece was mainly meant to challenge the clarinet section, especially the top 3 chairs(I'm 3rd chair Btw).
Imagine growing up and attending an urban high school and being introduced to this by your music teacher. We sang this and were looked at oddly by other schools, who sang traditional American carols lol
In high school we sang an acapella version of this song in choir and we absolutely LOVED this song. We'd even sing it for fun long after Christmas was over
I tried playing this tune years ago with a soprano recorder and managed well until the time through the verse before the duet when the artist performed the descending-ascending arpeggio and followed with quintuple tonguing at the upper extreme of the instrument's range. I hacked my way through it, but the congregation were very gracious.
To me, this song was revealed on The Many Moods of Christmas when two legends came together - arranger Robert Russell Bennett and Robert Shaw with his Chorale. Fum Fum Fum with March of the Kings closed out the Suite Two - powerful!
On Novembrr 12th MSR will be in Sioux Falls South Dakota i will be taking my niece as my boyfriend is unfortunately incarcerated but i think she will like the show
At first I disagreed about the recorder, but the more I listened to it and compared recorder videos here on RUclips, I'm now convinced it's a Sopranino recorder.@Chris Meads

They put on an incredible live show, and played all but a few songs I wanted to hear.
@@JonasClark Were you there?? It was in St. Louis.

Might be the coolest Xmas jam...
Absolutely.
Growing up, this and many other songs of theirs were always played on Christmas morning by my Dad. The memories!

But you hear all the parts individually and as a whole i saw this grp twice and they deliver a great concert.
A lesser known Christmas carol that I remember from my youth. Manheim did it a wonderful service. Love this version!

This song makes me think of the Dickens Faire and the Renaissance Festival..would love to have visited them and experience them for myself!
Saw them live earlier today. This was their encore!
vintage, full of lore and good spirits!!
This reminds me of the track that plays when you encounter Fado, the Wind Sage, for the first time in the Wind Waker.

This carol was sung by OCHS' Acapella choir: so much more beautiful than your edition.
For years I have wondered what instrument is playing the main theme. It sounds like a Tin Whistle.
Am I correct?
@Chris Meads I would have guessed a piccolo.
@@veiledzorba Too low for a piccolo. My sister played one.
