I am a little confused about the complaint about the cable routing through the frame. I see he has the rear gear cable run through the right hole in the downtube (and the front on the left). But I run them the opposite way, with the rear going the the left hole and vise versa, so the housing does not rub against the headtube. I know you can stick helicopter tape on the headtube to prevent the housing from abrading the paint, but I would rather run the housing to the opposite side and not have them rub the tube at all. Plus it makes for a smoother bend of the housing from the handlebar. Also, I would use cable liner on the cables running under the bottom bracket to prevent them from rubbing on the bare carbon, so I would not consider that a legitimate complaint either.
All 3 cable grommets were for gear cables, the brake/disc grommet should have had a lager hole for the full length cable. Also the runner for the rear brake was pre run into the front derailleur lines.
@@taylorcycles1931 I watched Hambini's Trifox review from a year ago, and now see the ports on the left side so I understand the problem now. Thank you. @@borano2031 Your missing the point, I would never and never use a rubber mallet on bike build! The quality was so bad i would not have built this bike up for a customer.
I bought and built a Trifox X18. Had similar issues. Saddle clamp didn't even work (had to buy trek one that fit). It does not ride well. It has flex in the bottom bracket and lateral flex in the fork and rear dropouts so it does wonky stuff in turns (not confidence inspiring... can't crit or road race a bike like that). Having built an X10 and and X16 I can report on the following facts: the X16 had some paint overrun on the front drop outs (fixed with a bit of sandpaper). The X10 had tight clearance of the brake and shifter cable around the bottom bracket (fixed with a file). So how does the X10 ride? Follow up video please 🙂
I had my x16 built up with only very minor issues such as rim bike caliper fit tight and head set bearing fit tight to frame as you captured in your video. The seat post on mine fits perfectly and doesn’t have plays when it is toques up. Otherwise, it has ridden nicely and feels stiff in fast bunch rides. It seams like the seat post was rotating a lot side to side for your particular model was before it was tightened up? I think you can confirm that😊. Anyways, I am excited to see you make another video for first ride/impression!

Thank you for making an honest video about these frames. Seems like all the other cycling youtubers are saying great things about TriFox but Ive always expected that they were paid in some way to give there positive reviews. Keep up the great work!
the same with me. I bought a Trifox X18 frame after finding only positive reviews on RUclips. I had several massive defects in the frame that could only be remedied with a great deal of time and money. I've been discussing with the Trifox customer service for months without any result. Instead of a good valued frame, I received a very expensive piece of crap.
@@MegaXtc11 nice to know some people are having good experience with this brand. I guess it comes down to their quality control. Hopefully they can fix these issues moving forward. As a community we need to raise our voices when we have problems with these frames and get the word out!
Love the content Cam! Maybe Luke (Trace Velo) could be brought in as a consultant? Definitely appears that some “Adjusting” needs to be done. Hopefully someone from Trifox can provide some advice for using their “Product”.
They're not faults, they're tight tolerances. It's very possible that the issue is with the handlebars and not the steerer, for example. Which is essentially the main issue there. Either way some sand paper would shave down a hair and Bob's your uncle. Sorry, the seat post flex is an issue. Not sure about that one.
@@pierrex3226 if that bike turned up at my house with those problems , it would soon be going back. The mechanic mentioned about the cables rubbing and possibly breaking if not dealt with is in my opinion a fault.
I am not unfortunately. Been swapping too many bikes around this year to make it work. I'll be back on them in 2023! My hip flexors are hating me right now.
wouldn't he want to sand those tight areas down? forcing the parts in would create stress areas, I mean there should be some give but i assume it could lead to cracking.
One thing I have noticed is all of the Chinese manufacturers have one thing in common. Cheesy names for their bikes. If you want to be taken seriously you don't call your creation Trifox.
If you look at many western brand names without the benefit of their history, you could probably say the same thing. E.g. Specialized - if they didn’t exist and a Chinese company came up with the name, we’d all take the piss.
Problem with manufacturing in China is often quality control. That's why you see special "review" unit that are handpicked sent to @Hambini & the like and they are always flawless. You will also see in this comments people swear that they got one and it was "perfect". The only mistake you did here was paying for it.
It proves that if you think you can pull one out of the box and just put it together, you're not going to be able to do that. But just how serious the issues are isn't clear since nothing was measured, e.g., was the headset tight because a little bit was sticking out that needed to be sanded off or was it tight because it was too small all around.
For the sake of your health, I highly recommend wearing latex gloves when working on bikes or anything else for that matter. EVERYTHING that you put on your skin (like carbon paste) gets absorbed into your bloodstream and then has to be filtered-out by your liver... if it can. A little bit of prevention now just might keep you from getting cancer or some other strange illness later in life. 👍
I have a chinese carbon Road Bike, called Pinewood future pro it so stiff AF, it is 4 years old already and my friend have Pinarello it only last 3 years, have a damage and crack under the bottom bracket.
It seems that your treatment towards this brand is unprofessional, because it’s not a well known eastern brand like Seka , Yoeleo, Winspace, etc. I have friends that have this exact frame and have no issues with it , and didn’t treat it in the way you guys are treating it in the build process. I’ve seen many times even in western brands that parts of the frame were not finished properly, the fact is carbon frames are made in China and in Taiwan “about 97% are .” Fact the biggest brand Giant is an eastern brand not a western brand like the big three Trek, Specialized, Cannonade. Giant for “FACT” makes Specialized and other well known brands. Guess who makes Cervelo? ,,,,,,, Elves an eastern brand makes Cervelo frames for world tour teams, but they don’t want you to know this but it’s “FACT”,. They just don’t want people to know the big secret. Essentially we all are riding Chinese, or Tawain made carbon bikes …………. I know for a fact you would not treat other more known brands this way.
Most people that live in the world of big brands don't want to know the ugly truth, that is a FACT 😂. I have this frame for 2 years now with Sensah Empire and Juintech F1 brake, Elite lightweight , no problem and i have above 10k km, so.....
Cam, you need to provide some costings here. It might have been cheap to buy, but 4 hours for a mechanic + a bunch of new bits, is going to add $450AU at least (googling mechanic current hourly rates). What you going to do with it? 5,000km and see how much it costs you to keep it running. Provide a true cost for everyone - in other words are you better off just buying better quality because it doesn't bend/break?
I guess take away is it's still better to shop second hand like damn 2000+USD is still a lot of money for a bike and that's coming from the owner of a Giant TCR Advanced lol. I mean, I'm definitely stretching that mark with my bike (I've basically gone full AliExpress besides the frame, the finishing kit and the Shimano Tiagra cranks), but when I was a kid I thought spending over 1000$ on a bike was bonkers but then again back then you could buy a carbon tcr with 5800 105 for like a little over 1000$.
@@invisiblescout6335 True was going to get the avari at first but a TCR came at an even cheaper price Edit: The TCR was 2nd hand but it looked brand new when I checked it so I took it though it's a 2012 model

yes you do! never leave a trace...
plan on buying the frame.. you saved me Cam. 😂
I have an X16 Quick Release, no issues so far and almost 4,000km in.
Yes, I did reach out to Luke on Instagram a while back! I may need to email him. Would like to get him involved in some content! Love his humour.
Oz cycles also deals with lots of Chinese and Taiwanese bits and is worth reaching out to
@@QuickQuips isn't he in prison these days ?
@@abedfo88 yeaj
@@abedfo88 Dang. Had no idea. He posts once a month so I couldn't tell. Maybe he knows how to make carbon fiber shanks.
One of the risks of buying a cheap frame.I guess they just bang them out all day quickly to sell them
I’ll buy it, seems like a tight fit
Laughed a lot - Just made a note to NEVER buy a Trifox ... Thanks Cam.
“Hey Jim, pass the mallet. Yeah, the big one.”
I wouldn't dare to take my bike to this professional mechanic.😢
took me until 4:02 to realize cam and jay are, in fact, 2 different people
Cam, do you think if you had sent that frame back and demanded a new, pointing out the faults etc they would have sent you a new one?
They're not faults, they're tight tolerances. It's very possible that the issue is with the handlebars and not the steerer, for example. Which is essentially the main issue there. Either way some sand paper would shave down a hair and Bob's your uncle. Sorry, the seat post flex is an issue. Not sure about that one.
@@pierrex3226 if that bike turned up at my house with those problems , it would soon be going back. The mechanic mentioned about the cables rubbing and possibly breaking if not dealt with is in my opinion a fault.
Saves so much electricity compared to the heat pump. Wish it was a little less noisy.
Great video as ever, would be interested to hear more about the groupset and wheels 👍🏻
Hey Cam, are you still riding on your 165mm cranks? How are they treating you?
Cheers from Canada
Drawing for straws to see you who is doing the test ride!
haha
You could get the frame resprayed with one of your Aussie words down the side... Hubbard or Bogdan would work well to describe this bike :)
Bad day at the Trifox office me thinks! Should of bought a Yoeleo, 3 bikes in no issues.
Cam you should have called this one "How to piss off your mechanic!" Entertainment 10/10 Trifox frame 0/10.
Haha Classic!
Jay is a very patient man, lol!
Just curious if that was the thru axle that was being backed off at the 8:00 minute mark?
I’ve seen many times even in western brands that parts of the frame were not finished properly, the fact is carbon frames are made in China and in Taiwan “about 97% are .”
Fact the biggest brand Giant is an eastern brand not a western brand like the big three Trek, Specialized, Cannonade.
I know for a fact you would not treat other more known brands this way.
agree
Most people that live in the world of big brands don't want to know the ugly truth, that is a FACT 😂. I have this frame for 2 years now with Sensah Empire and Juintech F1 brake, Elite lightweight , no problem and i have above 10k km, so.....
Agree. Like other known brands don't import from China. Discriminating.
Agreed
Lolz😂😂😂
It looks nice. Like to see how it rides. From the look of things in the build there may be some issues.
Thanks for the video
Cam, you need to provide some costings here. It might have been cheap to buy, but 4 hours for a mechanic + a bunch of new bits, is going to add $450AU at least (googling mechanic current hourly rates).
What you going to do with it? 5,000km and see how much it costs you to keep it running. Provide a true cost for everyone - in other words are you better off just buying better quality because it doesn't bend/break?
On a side note I see that windspace has borrowed your logo redesign.
That was their old logo I grabbed, so they've gone back to their own original, must be.
One day you have to try delihea frame
I guess take away is it's still better to shop second hand like damn 2000+USD is still a lot of money for a bike and that's coming from the owner of a Giant TCR Advanced lol. I mean, I'm definitely stretching that mark with my bike (I've basically gone full AliExpress besides the frame, the finishing kit and the Shimano Tiagra cranks), but when I was a kid I thought spending over 1000$ on a bike was bonkers but then again back then you could buy a carbon tcr with 5800 105 for like a little over 1000$.
Or get a winspace or elves frame
@@invisiblescout6335 True was going to get the avari at first but a TCR came at an even cheaper price
Edit: The TCR was 2nd hand but it looked brand new when I checked it so I took it though it's a 2012 model
That carbon dust is extremely dangerous. Cleaning it off outside before working on it is a very good idea.
The only thing on my bikes csrbon are forks... the rest aluminium or titanium... or maybe the hub that comes with the wheels....
This us going to be beyond interesting. Gives new meaning to "Cheap Chinese Bike". The frame is absolute garbage. Can't wait to see what happens with the Elves
Cam how do you like the wheel?
I wonder if it was possible to get the rotors and calipers aligned
As someone who has done a fair bit of work on AliExpress/cheaper stuff from asia, this coulda assembled a bit better with more prep/sanding and research. Hope the mallet on the handlebars/other parts doesn’t break over time
Some significant design tolerance and design routing issues highlighted! From reading the comments it sounds like the manufacturing output is inconsistent and suffers from a lack of proper qc. For the money though, is it worth it?
You will have to ride it, race it and get some significant distance on it to find out. 👍
Launch it off the ippy bridge into the Bremer.... It'll bounce off the island of shopping trolleys and sail off down the big brown snake.
If you buy a Trifox frame, be sure to buy a big mallet as well.
Thanks for saving me money and stress :)
Next vid will be this VS aluminum bike with same price cap.
So is it safe to ride after it's been brayed like that?!
So.... how does it ride?
