As incredibly brutal and intimidating it all looks from the outside, it was quite nice to get to see the inside - Despite the state of dereliction and decay, the flats looked very spacious and I can imagine many of them have good views as well. Back in 1961 it must have felt like a huge step up from the dirty and decrepit workers slums most of the new residents will have come from. However the social problems resulting from it being used as a dumping ground for the socially and economically deprived were both grim and predictable. I will be interested to see if it fares any better the second time around, or whether places like this are simply destined to end up becoming the dystopian nightmare they always looked like.
Hi. Just subscribed. Love videos like this. Most of these have been done up and had some money spent on them. They look pretty decent now too. There are still some left to do though. Just started a new channel for walk about videos. Dont think I will get many like this though. Would have loved to have done something like this.
Excellent video record of this socio-economically/historically/architecturally significant built environment. Wish your crew had got 'round to Robin Hood Gardens before the wrecking claw did.
I live so close to this place, always go past it on the bus whenever I travel, I don’t understand why this place had to become abandoned it was so cool. My cousin used to live in them and I really want to know the story behind it, very interesting!
Well if thats a listed building someone is either on drugs or having a laugh, needs tearing down they tore better condition similar blocks to those down in the 90s in East London cathall road estate amongst them and replaced with nice houses
I used to live there when I was a teenager on top floor the halls and stair Wells was really haunted I saw and heard many creepy things 😳 glad I don't live there anymore.
Christ this must have been a depressing place to live - looks like something from Soviet Russia. Looks like it needs gutting and knocking down it seems to be in a state.
Actually, in it's opening era, when it had all its shops and pubs--and was populated by a homogeneous working population--it was a GREAT place to live... then came the "vibrant" era, and the inevitable ghetto-ization. Apparently women voters get in the way of effective (think Singapore) policing, even though they themselves are the main victims of the resulting hooliganism! ;')

dingbat19 makes us appreciate what we have
Yes, thats exactly what it is, its socialism and its no good for anybody.

Looks to me like an idealic way to live ...everyone knowing eachother ...everyone in the same boat.
It’s grade 2 listed .It will be regenerated .
I'm pretty sure this place was used in Threads
It's not abandoned now cus i was in Sheffield yesterday and there is electricity
They have been doing it out bit by bit. We were there a while back.
All these homeless people on the streets an there's this place sitting empty
They will never be able to renovate the rest as ppl destroys the remaining buildings fast....
It's been sat there for donkeys years, and it's completely fenced off with spikes, we are just ninjas :D
