Yall are so right with the strip set. The intensity of a big eats just triggers that typical trout set. I went mousing for my first time a couple weeks ago (under NVGs it was sick af) and missed about a dozen yuge strikes.
I find its even more tricky because its a combo of dry fly/massive terrestrial set and a streamer set. I tell myself to wait till I feel the fish in contact with the mouse to set the hook. That way when I inevitably dont wait that long to set, I have at least had a good pause. Really upped my hook up rate doing this.
I was using a spool of 20lb seaguar for my tippet section. And for the leader, just an old 5x leader cut down to about 2x where I added a tippet ring to make the leader last even longer. I can't remember which brand of leader it was, It was probably Umpqua. I also have a video showing how I add tippet rings to my leaders, to make rigging faster and to make the leader last longer.
dang, I need friends to go fishing 🤣. I still afraid of fly fishing, first and last time I tried it, I hooked myself in the finger and needed an insition to get the hook out.
Haha, barbed hooks definitely aren't fun, I usually clip off the barbs, so if i hook myself, it comes out easy! Also, if you are ever looking for a good rod to get into flyfishing without breaking the bank, check out the Moonlit Umbra(169$). I've got a discount link to Moonlits website in the description as well
@@Dr.FlyFilms I will give the rod a try. By the way, I am new to Utah, what are some good places to fish brown trout? ever since I moved here, I have only caught rainbows and cutts at Strawberry Reservoir.
@luisrosario432 welcome to Utah!!! As far as brown trout go, they are in almost every river system here. The provo river has a ton of them! I also do Flyfishing lessons/guiding if you are interested

Glowing mouse eyes are a great idea
Thanks! I think what helped the most was the glow in the dark paint on the back of the fly!

Thanks:)
Thanks!
Thanks for the support! I really appreciate it

Dude, love it. I’ve been going night fishing lately. Sorry I couldn’t tell in the video but the guy with the streamer get any takes?
Thanks! And sadly, no, he actually ended up switching over to a mouse after we started getting hits
This is so great. Thanks for making it. What’s the uv paste you put on the mouse?
I'm glad you enjoyed it! My friend Manoli said he used Deco art ultimate glow paint for those flies
What sz leader and tippet do you use

It always sketches me out when I see those two eyes shining back at me across the river.
Same! I always get that feeling a cougar is watching me😂

It's impolite to ask that kind of information
