I don't mind the third version that was released on C-Note (I'm not a super fan of the I'll Do Anything version, though), but this version has gravatas and more of an emotional impact, and those solos...Damn!! I bet the live version was incredible. Was that on the Ultimate Experience Tour when you heard it?
I could be wrong in stating the following and (if so) prove it to me: There is no "The Dawn Mix". This is the same version, mix, and recording of the original 1985 version (which was recorded with The Revolution). I think part of the confusion in regards to this recording is that it was considered to be included as part of the previously unreleased The Vault 1-3 series, (in the mid-90's) that Prince was going to use in fulfilling his obligation to as well as to get out of his deal with Warner at that time. Yet, that changed when Prince's team negotiated with Warner and allowed them to officially release The Black Album (1994), gave them Chaos & Disorder (1996) album, and what became The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale (1999) release. These the facts. If you don't believe me, do your research.
