      Haha....I would LOVE to make a video every day but I have a full-time job, a home business, and a family of 6 to balance with my RUclips Channel. Each video takes me around 5-6 hours to produce from start to finish. My goal is to produce 2 videos per week. Truthfully tonight was the first time I turned them on and I immediately received a text from my wife saying "Can you please turn that off....I'm trying to sleep". LOL Guess it will have to wait till tomorrow. Thanks for watching!

    My Yamaha rxv673 has two sub outputs labeled 1 & 2. But the sub I wanna get (Klipsch r120sw) has a red and white left and right (with red being LFE) will this work?? Why do they put left and right if it could be only used with right? Will it sound the same? Thanks.

    Hey. Youthman! Will just say, very often when the cables got arrows, the shielding is attached to only one connector to lead disortion away from, this time, a subwoofer. :). Same on pre-amp to power-amp... with arrows, the shielding will only be attached on the "preamp-connector / arrow into the cable". But its superfun to watch your enthusiasm and videos.. keep it coming! Love Klipsch and SVS :).

  • @MattMerkle
    @MattMerkle 6 лет назад +62

    A. The direction arrows on that RCA cable are completely meaningless. It's just copper, the electrons cannot and will not be affected by the "direction". You can't "align" a copper wire anyway.
    The only cables where direction matters are long-length HDMI cables and the like, because they're NOT straight copper. They have an encoder/decoder chip inside the source plug which draws power from your source device. This chip allows long-length HDMI cables to work, as standard HDMI cabling can only go around 25 feet before signal degradation takes effect. If you plug those in backwards, the chip will not receive any power and the cable won't work.
    B. The LFE connector is just a visual aid. It has absolutely no signal implications. All major subs with stereo inputs will function identically to this one if you only attach a single "LFE" cable. The stereo inputs are summed internally (a sub is only one speaker after all, it's mono). The reason subs offer stereo inputs is that sometimes your source device may not have a dedicated subwoofer output. In order to ensure your sub isn't missing subwoofer frequencies from the left or right, you would have to attach both the left and right cables. Again, this is ONLY useful on the sub for sources that do NOT have a subwoofer output. 99% of the time you'll be using a receiver, which handles all the work of gathering the LFE signals from the channels you specify in the receiver settings, and outputs it pre-summed to mono for the sub. Some receivers also support dual subs in stereo, which means you'd have 1 output for each sub, left and right, although this is usually for tuning purposes, not for stereo field effects.
    The last thing you want to do is to start buying into the fake mumbo-jumbo of directionality and "flow" garbage that those $1000 cable manufacturers try to sell to everyone. Keep in mind the science of how electrons flow (from high voltage to ground/low voltage, regardless of cabling), and you'll be better off.

      Matt, I'm with you. As I mentioned in another comment, I realize directional cables are highly debatable. The only directional cable I have ever seen be effected by not hooking it up according to the directional arrows was an Active HDMI Cable due to the reasons you described. I didn't get any signal unless it was connected in the direction shown on the cables. If figure there is no harm done and nothing lost by connecting cables using the direction arrows. I'm definitely not one to buy expensive cables. Most of my interconnects are Monoprice. Typically....copper is copper.

    'Youth man' i really need your advice, I've just purchased an 8-inch (380) monitor Audio sub to go along with my original 10-in (mass 200) monitor Audio sub and after I switched the subwoofer on i started to hear a very high pitched electrical distortion sound and as if I'm suffering from tinnitus or something like that, is it possible I might have over killed my subwoofer sound considering my small room is only 12 by 13 ft. I'm not lazy or anything like that, but I haven't tried messing around with the frequency or anything like that because the problem I've got is that that high-pitched electricity sound ringing in your ears, it makes it hard to distinguish what's what.? I had both subs set at 80hz with 40%volume. Any advice on what I should or shouldn't do is most welcome especially from you youth man

    Also, forgot to mention: the line-level outputs do not use the subwoofer's amplifier. They would not be line-level if that was the case. Most subs directly connect the line-level inputs to the outputs (like a splitter cable, just internally). They could use a small pre-amp inside to boost the signal, but 99.9% of the time this is not done because it's simply not necessary (and extra amplification, even pre-amplification, can introduce unwanted noise).

    Sub signals are an AC analog signal. How can a cable be directional and require a specific orientation? Also, no subwoofer RCA L/R inputs require bridging to work. You can plug in one side and be fine. The multiple inputs are there for people who are using subs to augment stereo speakers that have no sub outs in a form of bi-amp configuration. Bridging the inputs with a Y will actually lower the resistance seen by the preamp, add distortion to the signal and loss of total input power. Thats why they labeled right RCA LFE, so people don't think they need to bridge the inputs.

    Great video! Something i didnt understand.. I got the Denon-X4500H, which has 2 subwoofer outputs. If I'm using 2 subwoofers, why can't I plug each subwoofer to the respective slot 1 and 2? I'm planning to get dual Klipsch SPL 150s and they got L channel and R/LFE, but no outputs. Normally, you connect your 1st subwoofer like explained in this video, but what about the second one? AVR has 2 sub slots in it and even if I use the 2nd slot on the AVR, does the other end of the cable still go to R/LFE on 2nd subwoofer? or how does it exactly work?
    And my other question is about the phase. Should I use the same phase for both subwoofers, even if they are at opposite direction? (1x front wall, 1x back wall). Thank you!

So, the diagram shows the single connection from the receiver to a l/r line in on the sub, and a l/r line out connection to the 2nd sub (repeated the same way for subs 3 and 4) so, does this connection make it 4 subs, or technically 2. So everything I've seen about multi-sub setup has recommended placement of the subs on opposite ends of the room...generally one in the front center and one in the rear center. I see you keep yours near the front speakers. The 'experts' claimed this just behaves like having one bigger sub and doesn't give the benefits of better fill for the room. Have you played with the other configurations?

    • @Youthman

      I have not done any direct A/B between the RF-7 III and LaScalas but I have done direct A/B between my previous RF-83 (which is in the same Reference tier as RF-7 III) and the RF-83 were no comparison in detail and midrange. The LaScalas do not have the "slam" that the RF-83 had but the bass they do produce is incredibly low distortion due to the folded horn. If I decide to keep the RF-7 III, they will go in the living room 2ch setup and I'll give my RF-7 II to my son to match his RC-64 II and replace his original RF-7's. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Youthman - I am curious about the Klipsch sub's ports with reference to being behind an AT screen. Are they side or rear ported? Do you experience any screen movement from the drivers? You mentioned that the PB 16's would not be appropriate because of your AT.
    I have two Paradigm Monitor 12 subs. These are sealed subs like the SB16's. I thought my next sub(s) would be the PB 16 Ultras but I'm concerned about screen movement as they would likely be approx 2" from the screen.
    It sounds like the SB 16's are a "fair" compromise from the PB's and would still likely be a significant upgrade from my current Paradigms. It's not that I'm completely disappointed with them but I feel they lack a little in room shaking movie scenes.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 лет назад

      Hi Kevin, I get that question often so I made a video about it - ruclips.net/video/VtLw9a1ey6s/видео.html. Short answer is no, the (4) RSW-15's do not move my screen...at least I cannot notice it with my eyes. I have watched many youtube videos of guys blowing hats and even balls across the room with the ports from the PB-16 so that's what I'm basing my assumption from. I'm not sure what changes it makes if you seal off some or all of the ports on the PB-16 and if that would be enough to not move your screen.
      I just finished shooting another video on controlling the SB-16 and will be uploading it tomorrow. Then the next videos will be how do they perform and some actual demos.

      Ok, so I saw some other comments that answered all my questions... The top ported SVS adds one more equation to the mix.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 лет назад

      I'm not familiar with your subs but just looking at specs, I would say the SB-16 would be a HUGE upgrade for the following reasons. 1) Weight: 122lbs vs 41lbs. Weight is often attributed to size of box (typically larger equals more output), weight of magnet, better bracing etc. 2) Amplifier: 1500 watts RMS vs 300 watts RMS, 3) App controlable 4) Larger Driver: 16" vs 12". A 16" woofer will move a LOT more air and will pressurize a room much more easily than a 12" will. Once I upgraded to my first 15" sub, I have never gone back. I should have a good idea within the next few days how well the SB-16's perform. Stay tuned!

    Just a heads up to save you some $$$. I have a pair of SVS SB 4000's which are basically the same subs with 13.5" drivers. They are excellent and I'm sure the SB 16's are as well. HOWEVER, these sealed subs really shine with music. If looking to simply shake your room when watching movies and to make explosions and such extremely intense, this can be achieved with much cheaper subs and spending $4,000 isn't required. Only do so if needing excellent music performance. In fact, if you're a lunatic that craves insane foundation shaking bass for some ungodly reason, look into their ported subs. All the children with peanut butter stains on their Xbox and Playstation consoles seem to crave those.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 лет назад

      Thanks Steve. I've always been a fan of 15" drivers for my subs. I have not heard the SB4000 yet. If the Dual SB-16 Ultra perform as well as my (4) Klipsch RSW-15 subs, they would be an upgrade due to the beautiful piano black finish, app control-ability and the metal grills. Not to mention having new subs vs 15 year old subs....my amps could give out at any moment due to their age. As for ported, I'm pretty sure ported subs would be a bad idea behind my 150" AT Screen as they would "blow" the screen. I am curious to see if the SB-16 will cause the screen to move.

    • @23x31
      @23x31 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, ported wouldn't work for you with those screens in front. Their big ported subs throw a ton of air. These SVS sealed subs are very good, you'll likely buy them especially with the discount they'll provide.. It's just that most people really don't know or care what good bass is when they hear it. If its loud, boomy and shakes the room, its all good and cheapo subs fit the bill for them. The problem with cheap subs is all the bass when playing "music" sounds similar. Its just boom, boom, boom and there's virtually no difference in a bass player for example striking an E or A string on their bass guitar. Its all muddled together with almost no definition. Best of luck to you.

      The (4) Klipsch RSW-15’d that I have now are known for being musical. I rarely listen to music in the theater room but there is music throughout every movie so having a sub that is powerful for movies, yet refined for music is important to me.

    • @Youthman

      Neither method has any sonic benefit. It’s a matter of preference. If you have two sub preouts, my preference would be to use one sub preout for each of the two subs. If you only had one sub preout, you could use the line out on one sub to connect to the second sub or you could use a Y splitter like I showed in the video to split the signal to each sub. Again, no sonic difference. Just a matter of preference.

    • @MattMerkle
      @MattMerkle 6 лет назад +1

      Most high end receivers with two sub outputs allow you to individually tune each subwoofer. This is extremely useful for subs that do not have their own EQ settings, as you'll want to use the receiver's EQ to remove any deadzones from each sub. Since each sub is in its own location, they will have their own deadzones, and need their own EQ.

    I thought you were an expert until I seen the cables you are using. Lowest end monster on your subs. 3 dressed up as a 9 if you ask me

    • @Youthman

      My apologies. I forgot one of the qualifications of a HiFi expert was the need to have fancy frufru cables. You would probably like the cables in this video - ruclips.net/video/ary7DYmaYk0/видео.html. Don't forget to buy some of those cable risers to go with them or the sound will not be able to transport you into the 5th dimension. Be blessed.

    I just looked up this vid. I fed one 12m cable through conduit and realized I needed a 15m for the other sub. I'm waiting for the 15m to get here and u guessed it!!!!!!! the 12m is backwards 🤣🤣🤣🤣. if I would have ordered both correctly I would have closed up the ceiling. what luck...

    What if you have 2 subs but only one sub output on intergrated amplifier?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  3 года назад

      Simply use a Y RCA adapter. 1 male end with two female ends. Then connect that to two sub cables.

    My powered sub doesn't have a out put, only input how can I hook up a second sub. Also my reciever only has one sub hook up

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  5 лет назад

      You can use a Y adapter to split the signal from your receiver to the two subs

      I wish I could help Paul. You would need to contact Onkyo to help you with that. They used to have a replacement plan because they had so many issues with HDMI boards failing but my understanding is the deadline for that has passed. I'm wanting to upgrade my 5008 to Atmos.

      Bro, hdmi boards going out, not only on onkyos but on yamahas and other brands is so common...Its an absolute shame this area of the receivers wasnt designed to be troublefree and bulletproof cuz its happenned on my receivers as well, a high end yamaha that needs the board and i have no video from my hdmi out...i just keep an eye on ebay, but its hit and miss..you could buy a new board but mine is 400.00..good luck

    Why remove the rubber feet when you can just leave the subwoofer sideways?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  4 года назад +1

      I typically have to move the subwoofers around quite a bit due to the amount of speaker systems that I review at the same time. Removing the feed is the easiest thing for my workflow

    Is there is any way to connect passive sub with active

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 лет назад +1

      No because the passive speaker gets power from a receiver while an active sub gets the signal from a receiver and powers the sub itself.
      You could come out of your sub out on the receiver, into the active sub, then out of the active sub into an amplifier and then out of the amplifier via speaker wire to your passive sub.

      If you are wanting to connect your sub wirelessly, you will likely need to buy a wireless sub adapter. Maybe something like this - www.svsound.com/products/soundpath-wireless-audio-adapter
