I had so many people tell me to visit the golden temple on my India travels so I went and it did not disappoint. It is incredible. I ended up just spending 3 days sitting by the pool people watching. Sunset was my favourite time. The prayers and the lights coming on was beautiful, one of my India highlights.

Glad to see you enjoyed the food and opted not get the water in the bowl 🥣 so you could get a lot more rice pudding. There are donation boxes throughout the Gurudwara complex for people to drop in some dough 💰. The building right in front of the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) entrance is where the sacred seat of the Guru is. People go in there to pay homage to all previous gurus. Those guys never lose shoes because they're so organized with the pigeon hole boxes. I've been there so many times since I arrived, I lost count but never lost my shoes. The clockwise going around (full circle) the Harmandir is known as parikarama in Hinduism. 🙏🏻😎🇮🇳

Would definitely want to see the Jalianwala Bagh Museum where hundreds of people who had assembled peacefully were gunned down without any warning by the British Army led by General Dyer. The rivers are: Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas & Sutlej.

Baptised Sikhs are vegetarian. But Sikhs like myself who follow the religion but are not baptised, eat meat. In fact, Panjaab has some of the very best meat dishes in the world such as tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, and butter chicken. Amritsar's most famous dish is a fish dish called the Ambarsari machi. Goat is widely available throughout Panjaab, and two of the most popular goat dishes are desi bakra (goat masala curry), and the other is saag bakra (goat in spinach).

    Hello Gabriel.
I spent some weeks in the northwest of India and loved it. I was not taken by Amritsar and at the Golden Temple and the crowds were massive. My favorite place was Srinagar. I stayed on a house boat on Dhal lake. It was so peaceful, beautiful and quiet. A wonderful rest near the end of a 6 week trip in India which mainly concentrated on Tiger safaris in Central India. Mind blowing.

Sadly Dal Lake is very polluted. I went there over 10 years ago and it was bad and I don’t think anything has improved since then

The music is "kirtan". It functions somewhat like an oral tradition and was how the original teachings were transmitted.
The food is deliberately "course". Eat to live. Don't live to eat. Sitting on the floor has always been symbolic of our fundamental equality (no separations of castes, "believers"/"non-believers", etc.). The water is as safe as bottled water.
Covering your hair is kind of an act of coronation. It symbolizes your individual sovereignty. Sikhs began wearing turbans in response to a law that forbade non-royals from covering their hair/wearing turbans.
The martial aspect of Sikhism and its impact on India as a whole cannot be understated. It is arguably the formation of the "khalsa" that led to the unified country now known as India. Prior to that, "India" was many separate kingdoms and had been for thousands of years. There is obviously a lot of history to unpack here, but only the uninformed would argue to the contrary. 3, 2, 1...

I'm happy u r going back to the north. Hopefully Ladakh and Kashmir. Big cities are overwhelming. It's too crowrded and dirtier, it's not my vibes. I'm interested in the nature view, less crowded and quieter place.

There's not a single slum in Punjab and if there is one it'll be rather small and a contrast to the prosperity of the people of Punjab - who have one of the highest per capita income in India

Hey Gabriel, I have been twice - in 1998 and 2003. It wasn't even half as crowded - wow, I wonder why it is so busy. There is a live feed from inside the Golden Temple if you want to take a look. Or if you go very early, it might not be as crowded. It's a shame not to go inside. Beautiful memories and great footage.

I had the water at the Golden Temple and it was fine. I never had any problems. They will never give you polluted water or anything bad. After all it is a sacred place.
