    6:35 sorcerer are not able to use distant spell for counterspell as the reaction you take is within the spells range sense before you cast the spell and since you apply metamagic when you cast, using distant spell would be pointless since the caster would either be within the original range of counter spell or would be out of range and you would be unable to take the reaction to cast since the enemy caster is outside the range of the spell

    Enervation is a decent spell for a sorcerer. It’s one of the spells that give you an action to repeat the spell effect, so you can quicken it to cast as a bonus action and use your action to use the spell effect the same turn. As long as the initial save is failed. It’s decent damage and can also be an emergency heal.
    I like it a lot with a 1 level life cleric dip and disciple of life feature. 14+ half of 8d8 healed isn’t too bad.
    Sorcerer is also less likely to drop concentration.

    My best experience with banishment was when I was playing a cleric. I banished an giant wood golem and while it was gone we quickly lit a fire in the spot it would return to. It’s super effective!

    • @quentindevlay3359
      @quentindevlay3359 4 года назад

      Shouldn't have worked. Banishment returns the target to the nearest unnocupied space if the original is occupied (and yes, a raging fire counts as occupied.) RAW is meant to prevent instakill returns of that type.

    I will never discount Seeming after what a DM did with it during a battle in a crowded public courtyard. Our BBEG was an oni shapechanged to look like the kingdom's regent, and he had an illusionist accomplice. The oni was unmasked with a Dispel Magic, but went invisible to try to make an escape. At that point, the illusionist used Seeming to give the appearance of the kingdom's regent (the oni had previously impersonated) to the party, our gathered allies, and the nearby civilians. Though some of us resisted, the vast majority failed the save, and we suddenly had a big problem of finding the BBEG without attacking an innocent person.

    Banishment is amazing and broken. Counterspell can make sure it goes through and heightened metamagic can guarantee a weak charisma save. If one is worried about losing concentration, get the hell out of there. Hold person/hold monster allowing the melee combatants to crit like hell, is also game breaking

  • @Altyrell
    @Altyrell 4 года назад

    With the Class Variants UA, I actually wished that the 'Elemental Spell' Metamagic worked like the 'Empowered Spell' & the 'Unerring Spell' (UA) Metamagics, because 'Elemental Spell' coupled with 'Careful Spell' Metamagic would make for a good AOE Combo. Have "Cone of Cold" & facing against a group of enemies that are resistant/immune to cold, 'ES' "Cone of Cold" into dealing Acid, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder instead of cold while utilizing 'CS' to shape it so that your party members aren't affected. Then, as a DM, I would modify the last line of "CoC" to make it make sense with the Type chosen because originally it reads "A creature killed by this spell becomes a frozen statue until it thaws", if it was 'ES'd' then I would change it so that the creature killed by the spell would:
    Acid - Victim's body starts dissolving away
    Fire - Turns to ash
    Lightning - Charred body
    Thunder - Either shattered or blood bleeding out from the ears, nose, mouth, eyes, etc
    At the same time, I would have it affect other items as well,
    Acid - items are rotting, breaking, dissolving, etc
    Cold - FROZEN
    Fire - Items are caught on fire or are blackened, heated, etc
    Lightning - Scorch marks
    Thunder - Blasted apart, shattered, etc

      Ever read Spawn where he did the teleporting inside of someone and exploding out of them trick? And with it being a bird, it probably has 1 hp- so if it's chewed, that'd break the polymorph and the bird-gobbo would explode into a full-sized gobbo in chewer-gobbo's mouth or if bird-gobbo's just swallowed, stomach acid would do the 1 hp damage and we've got ourselves a gut-buster. At least that's how I'd rule it.

    Just noticed the latest couple of psionics that recently came out and was curious from watching your mystic video from awhile back if that is still being worked on an if that is still pliable in unofficial home games?

    • @the_rose_garden01
      @the_rose_garden01 4 года назад +2

      I mean, anything is usable in your home game as long as everybody involved is cool with it. But I watched an interview on the D&D Beyond RUclips channel, and they said that they wanna do Psionics without making a whole new system, because people probably won't use said system. So the new Psionic UA is probably the way it's gonna be going forward, at least officially

      @@the_rose_garden01 ya that was kinda the way I was thinking, and I asked mainly due to I was considering a rune guard. However very shortly after that consideration UA came out with its revised version the rune knight to which is drastically different, and as cool as a nomad or immortal might be I kinda didnt wanna create a character an bam revised version comes out even tho it maybe better like the knight was.

    Hi everyone i need a little help on GM-ing my own game I’ve never run one before I’ve only played D&D like 5 times in my whole life and now my friends want me to run a campaign for four of them which is fine I’m more than happy to do it, but 3 of the players are brand new and one player plays it like all the time. I need a way to challenge the experienced player while still teaching the new ones how the game works. also i have no idea how to build campaigns or encounters. Also I wasn’t sure what books to buy. So any tips for any of these would be awesome even if the answers are just links to videos that explains this stuff or that show me how to do this stuff it would be really appreciated thanks.

    • @topomusicale5580
      @topomusicale5580 4 года назад +1

      Here are my thoughts, for what they are worth. In terms of what to buy, depending on your level of certainty about how likely this is to be ongoing, and how much money you may have to invest, I'd say start by downloading the free Basic Rules (dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules). This is really the minimum you would need. A good alternative at the low-cost end might be to buy the D&D Starter Set ($20) which will give you a printed copy of the basic rules, a set of dice, some pre-generated characters, and a starting adventure which I've heard is pretty good. Beyond that, if you want to start collecting the rule books, the Player's Handbook should be your first purchase. One thing to consider is whether you want the actual books or if you are comfortable with only online access in which case D&D Beyond can give you that access online for less per book.
      Beyond that first adventure, you can wing it and design your own if you are comfortable with that. If not, there are literally thousands of modules (canned adventures) out there, just do some searching online.
      If you are going to run a campaign rather then a series of one-shot adventures, you will need to decide on the setting - whether it is a world you make up yourself, or based on a setting sourcebook that you purchase.
      In terms of giving the experienced player enough challenge, he/she should start a new character at first level along with the new players, so challenge from a character perspective shouldn't be an issue.
      Just remember, that the goal of the game is for everyone to have fun (including the DM.) If that's happening, you are doing it right. Good luck and have fun!

      Thank you guys I really appreciate the tips and advice I’ll try my best to work them into my game and also thank you for that link and book recommendations and for telling me about D&D beyond. I think I’ll use it for my games, it seems like it would be easier to use than looking for one specific thing in a book. And thank you for the tavern brawl idea thats one im definitely going to use its a really good way to get them to understand combat and turn orders without the threat of death looming over them. You guys are awesome thanks so much

      @@Nerdarchy How?

    • @1217BC
      @1217BC 4 года назад +2

      @@geirpg Numerous reasons. To start, because if there is no way to disrupt the effect in the combat, then this becomes stronger than other spells at this level. The concentration mechanic is there to make you have to choose between powerful spells, and to make particularly devastating effects somewhat negate-able. Also, this creates more dramatic tension. I recently ran a game where the cleric upcast banish and banished an Orthon (Predator alien made devil) and his nightmare steed. All the lesser servants went nuts and tried to drop her, while the whole party did all they could to stop them. It took them a few rounds to mop up, and she had to make 4 concentration saves in that time. Every one was a nail biter for the whole table, and they went nuts when she made the last one. She got to feel awesome, and everyone enjoyed it. If there had been no concentration, it would have been boring.

    Twin polymorph, you cast it on your enemy (male) and transform him into a female pomeranian. You also cast it on your barbarian and turn him into a mastiff. Your 230 lbs mastiff barbarian then breeds with the 5 and a half pounds pomeranian. You have just created trauma that the bad guy will never be able to overcome, ever.
