  • Quick tip for leathercrafters. If you happen to have small belt sander you can use it to skive, thin your leather. Perfect for strap makers.
Press the leather to the wheel of the grinder with a straight piece of wood. Apply pressure and pull the leather counter to the way the wheel is turning.
Repeat until you have the thickness you want.
Be careful not to press too hard nor stay in the same position. You might burn the leather or simply grind through it.
Also remember to use eye protection and respirator. There will be a lot of leather dust flying in the air. Using a vacuum near the grinder is a good idea.

Just saw this. This is exactly what I figured out on my own (big accomplishment, I know....). I use the crepe rubber cleaning stick so shave off a few passes, clean, and repeat.

This method works for most types of leathers in my experience, including waxy chrome tan and shell cordovan. Only draw back is that it makes a lot of mess with leather dust.

Why dont you use the metal guide to set the depth and run the leather under it

It might be good for a veg tan leather, doubtful for chrome based.

Thanks. Depending on the grid of the belt it would be more or less rough. I use this when I glue the lining anyway.

      @@mkleathers3453 Great tip!
Suggestion: add "belt sander" to the title as that's what it's called in the west. Might get out to more people.
