    Every single tournament TW played in was a course record for crowds at that venue, guaranteed. Not even Jack or Arnie could do that, they had crowds but TW had CROWDS on every hole he has ever played since he started playing...hell he was 3 years old the first time he became a STAR.

    So cool to see this it where it all began. And now 80 wins later, hes now only 2 away from breaking the all time wins record. History is about to be made and I'm gonna enjoy every second of it, like a giddy little school boy, watching him win the masters I felt 15 again, I'm now 31 god what a time to be alive and to be a golfer.

    This is the beginning of Tiger Woods' "HELLO WORLD" series and went on and on and on. Surprisingly, for me at least, I still like watching these re-runs than some of the more recent clips from tournaments. I cannot seem to find the emanating energy and fun with these recent tours. I just watch the news now to see who won. That's it.

    Footnote: the guy who got disqualified in the middle of the video, Taylor Smith, actually tied tiger at -21. But he was disqualified because his putter grips were not uniform. Taylor Smith never recovered from this disqualification and died in 2004 never playing another event

      Yeah, he battled substance abuse due to pain medication, mental health. He actually played last in 1998 on the PGA Tour. He ended up caddying years later. We never know what one moment in time does to someone, good or bad. If Tiger blows the 1997 Masters, does he mentally recover? Are we talking about a Tiger Woods with 16 PGA wins and 3 majors instead of 82wins and 15 majors? If Taylor Smith wins this tournament, as a rookie, would that springboard him to better success? Is he still alive today? Ifs...

      @@bamboosho0tnot sure if you know what a prodigy is but Tiger was one of- in addition, his mental toughness was unmatched because his Green Beret father tested him throughout his youth to be mentally tough; ergo, you cannot compare Tiger to this dude in any way imaginable. Just stop.

    • @bamboosho0t
      @bamboosho0t 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@cypherlock01 I think you need to re-read what I stated, because you misinterpreted it. I did not directly compare Taylor and Tiger. I’ve read 4 books on Tiger, and I met him in 1991 in SD when he was 15 and I was 13. I’m well aware of his background. What Tiger, Taylor, and all human’s share, is *fallibility.* Illustrating the fine line between victory and defeat and what that *can* do to a human mind, no matter how strong. If Tiger blows that massive lead in 1997 at Augusta, we never know IF Tiger fully recovers mentally. Because for the first time in his young life “doubt” will enter his mind. For Taylor, getting knocked around on the Nike Tour, doubt was already in his mind. The ‘96 Disney debacle finished him off. What shred of belief he had was no more after that. But had he won that tournament, perhaps it propels him to greater success. Not Tiger-level success, but better for him and perhaps…his life doesn’t spiral out of control.

    • @azieldaly2965
      @azieldaly2965 2 месяца назад

      @@bamboosho0t Nah Tiger is not the average player even if he faltered early in his career he would have still gone on to win just as much. His mental toughness is his defining characteristic. So no him losing the masters in 1997 wouldn't have affected his confidence. That kind of thing would probably affect average, good or even great players. Not a player with mentality and talent to be a GOAT of their sport.

    Thing I always liked about Payne Stewart is how little time he spends over his ball.
    By the time he's ready to set up over the ball, he quickly gets comfortable and hits it. All his consideration of the shot is decided before he goes to his ball.

    Thankfully, golf coverage isn't this poor any more; even still the editing of this video could have been better provided the network didn't throw the full tape away to save space. The director should have been fired along with at least one of the commentators. "Tiger Smith"??? Really??? In 1996 Tiger was already well known in the golf world and had been for at least a couple of years; the gallery knew how special Tiger was before the commentator knew his last name wasn't "Smith."

      @Michael37398@gmail.com Philpot If I'm honest short irons and wedges are easy. The only factor is distance control, as wedges don't curve but barely a yard. You have to basically force a 2 yard movement on it, and that's talent. For me, my yardages are dialed in to a yard, and if I'm more than 2 yards off of pin high I'm pissed. It's not difficult, but Tiger is still an extraordinary player.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv 4 года назад

      Context is king here. In 2020 almost every player hits it a mile and being a long hitter isn't all that big of a deal. But in 1996 people weren't used to the power he had, and he was able to overpower courses like the other guys couldn't. Mix in supreme short game and ball striking and it makes more sense.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv 4 года назад +1

      In 1997, tigers first full season as a pro, he averaged 295. This is the new average in today's PGA. The average back then was 267. Before courses got much longer like they did that'd be a big advantage, especially on Par 5s. Hence why they used to always say tiger destroyed Par 5s because he was outhitting people 30 yards or more.
