  • An elite squad of Glee Club members continue the fight to boost morale against the ongoing threat of COVID, this time within the safety of their homes.
"O Amherst" is a song borne of changing times and newfound critique of the college's namesake. "Lord Jeffery Amherst" was a popular fight song among Amherst students ever since it was penned by James Shelley Hamilton (Class of 1908). However, because of Lord Amherst's genocidal actions against Native Americans, the student base opted to separate the school from his problematic legacy, and the song was no longer performed. The tune, however, was missed by many alumni who associated it with the camaraderie they experienced at the fairest college. In 2019, the Choral Society unveiled "O Amherst", a revision of the classic tune with new lyrics by a collaborative effort of alumni and current students. This version, rather than aggrandizing a horrible man that committed numerous atrocities to the indigenous peoples, highlights what is essentially Amherst: a beautiful college that is praised by all who grace its doors, a promise that Amherst will always be with us (and vice-versa), and an unyielding disdain for Wesleyan and Williams (and the rest).
