Warner Bros. Pictures invites you to experience the extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share one unbreakable bond in “The Color Purple.” This bold new take on the beloved classic is directed by Blitz Bazawule, a multi-medium artist whose breakout first feature is the highly acclaimed “The Burial of Kojo.” The film’s all-star producers are Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones. “The Color Purple” stars Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), SAG Award winner and Tony Award nominee Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple,” “Orange Is the New Black”), Tony nominee and Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo (“Euphoria,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Tony Award nominee Corey Hawkins (“Six Degrees of Separation,” “In the Heights”), Oscar- and Grammy-winning artist H.E.R. (“Judas and the Black Messiah”), Grammy nominee Halle Bailey (“The Little Mermaid”), Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (“King Richard,” “Ray”), and Grammy-winning artist Fantasia Barrino in her major motion picture debut. The screenplay is by acclaimed playwright Marcus Gardley, who won a WGA Award for “Maid.” His script is based on the novel by Alice Walker and based on the musical stage play, book (of the musical stage play) by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Joining director Bazawule behind the camera are a roster of acclaimed artisans, including Oscar-nominated director of photography Dan Laustsen (“The Shape of Water”), Oscar-winning production designer Paul Denham Austerberry (“The Shape of Water”), editor Jon Poll (“Bombshell,” “Meet the Parents”), costume designer Francine Jamison-Tanchuck (“Glory,” “One Night in Miami…”) and choreographer Fatima Robinson (“Dreamgirls”). The music is by Oscar nominee Kris Bowers (“King Richard,” “Green Book,” documentary short “A Concerto Is a Conversation”). Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, In Association with Domain Entertainment, An Amblin Entertainment Production, An OW Films Production, An SGS Pictures Production/A QJP Production, “The Color Purple.” It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on December 25, 2023 and internationally beginning 18 January 2024.

It’s a really great re-imagining of the story. This is not to be compared to the original movie- a classic in its own right. It’s a complement to that work, not a competitor. In this version the plot line is not disturbed; the characters feel real; the musical numbers are effective; it’s beautifully shot. It balances the devastating themes with joy/hope in a way that allows us to see how we get through trauma- or a way. The community of sisterhood and the ability to imagine a different reality. I loved it. It was well done.

Everyone who didn't like it, I wish them scary nightmares. I love movies and I know the beautiful and the ordinary, but this is a masterpiece, one of my best films this year. thanks a lot to Steven and the actors actress the team behind the scenes thank you guys

I love the first movie, I flew for the first time to go to New York to boardway to see Fantasia in the TCP but she was out sick still enjoyed the play first time on boardway for me, but I was familiar with musical love all they had brought t.v. and the big screen sound of music, west side story etc. They did not go wrong by bringing the TCP to a new imagination. Love all Frank Sinatra, Debbie Reynolds, Judy Garland, The wiz, do not forget Roy Roger's. So I say to anyone try to get involved in a new imagination thru musical art.

After watching this film 2 things
#1. A lot of remakes should have and shouldn't be made. This film is a perfect example.
#.2 This film makes me appreciate the original Color Purple 100 times more.

This film is terrible. The original film from Spielberg is leagues better. They changed too much from the original book too. Making the sister’s story secondary to the plot (if you don’t believe me watch the film. It sidelines this part of the story after the first few minutes in favor of other things) in favor of musical numbers was wrong.

Pay attention to the looks on the actors faces in their interviews.. they knew this was trash.. some of the best actors on the movie wasn’t even ACTING.. The movie is horrible.. when someone has to promote that hard it’s trash.. I was the first brave enough to walk out the movie and the rest of the audience followed me.. Oprah.. ain’t no coming back from this lie of a horrible movie
