Well done, but they don't sound like they're from New York at all. They sound too well-spoken. In the 50s and before, they actually did say things like "woik" for work. Even now, with some older folks.

I don't get it. Why not just watch the original? This is pretty much exactly the same.

I think this is based off of the original Broadway version from 1957, which originally took place AFTER the rumble, but since I'm guessing they liked the change in the 1961 film in which they moved it to before the rumble, they decided to make a compromise: featuring the original lyrics from the 1957 Broadway version without Riff, but keeping it before the Rumble like in the 1961 film so that a goofy song would not take place after a tragic event.

Is based on the musical, not the 1961 movie

@@gogo-fs4wl Exactly my thoughts. A lot of people seem to like to compare this to the 1961 film, but the thing is, this ISN'T an adaptation of the '61 film, but like you and I both have said, it's based off of the '57 Broadway musical, as Spielberg has explicitly stated in interviews. Sure it may have taken some things from the '61 film (Such as having both the Shark boys and girls perform America, and putting Gee Officer Krupke before the Rumble), but it uses the original lyrics from the 1957 Broadway production.

@@harrisonho8934 all the people who says this movie is bad, they are just haters, the real fans of the Musical, liked Spielberg's version.

@@gogo-fs4wl Honestly, my biggest piece of advice for anyone who is reluctant to watch this film is to NOT compare it to the 1961 film. This film was clearly stated by Spielberg to NOT be a remake of that. People need to go in with no expectations for it to be similar to that film to get the full experience. If people ABSOLUTELY need to compare it to something, they should listen to the record from the Original 1957 Broadway production.
