I've been an organist my entire life. I still remember being totally disinterested in classical music as a young teen. That is, until a musical relative gave me a record of Bach organ works. Hearing the fugue in A minor, it was like being hit by a bolt of lightning! Then the G minor. Then the Passacaglia! OMG. Over and over and over I played them. I started piano lessons 4 weeks later.

Yeah - I think when one is young it is easy to be affected by your peers and their values in order to "belong". But when one actually pays attention to the music and listens without any emotional prejudice, good music stands out and on its own. It's self-centered and vain to think that other people over centuries of work have not composed and recognized outstanding, timeless music.

Refreshing and wonderfully produced documentary. Only a few minor oversights (they forgot to mention Carl Phillip Emmanuel, to whom we owe a great deal of recollections concerning his father). But here in these times, when willful ignorance and visceral corruptions of character are rewarded, those of us who value dedication to authentic beauty and integrity should celebrate and emulate genuine greatness wherever it is to be found, in whatever form it is expressed.

Soli Deo Gloria Danke Dear Kappellmeister of Lipsia. Onore a te grande Kantor !!!

Johann Hermann Schein was one of Seb. Bach’s predecessors as Cantor of the Thomaskirche.

The best of these videos about Bachs life. David Suchets work. Wise choice of NBS as currently dedicated to relentless consumption of all of Bachs choral and instrumental work on period instruments.

Bach is not merely the greatest composer, but arguably the greatest generative mind in all human history. Only Aristotle, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, Velasquez, Euler, Newton, Beethoven, Leibniz, Darwin and Einstein come close.

Don’t call J.S. Bach “the father of classical music.” He built on an ancient and great musical tradition, and, in turn, inspired all those who dedicate themselves to Music. He was supremely great; but it does him an injustice to try to yank him out of the unbroken and ancient culture of musical excellence out of which he arose.

As regards J.S. Bach’s predecessors, what nonsense! The old masters were quintessential romanticists; their music was passionate and strikingly expressive.

Organs pipes for healing the organs of the body. Frequency healing thru sound , prayer and matter..frequency of communing with God. Architectural design and stone in which the instrument is positioned amplifies and directs the waves of frequency.

Luther studied in Eisenach as a boy. Luther departed Eisenach in early 1501 in order to attend the university in Erfurt. Then he transferred to Wittenberg, where he continued his studies at the university.
