I checked wilipedia and in fact it has not much more power than the Bramo engines from the 40s. Around 1150hp each. I suppose that reliability and ease of maintenance to be the reason for these power plants.
The original fought on both sides in ww2 first for the Dutch then for the Germans and Australians! Beautiful old girl with a royal facelift (turbo props)!!!
Designed for the Dutch East Indies naval air force (the then-MLD) as a long-range patrol bomber by Dornier. The first ten production aircraft [Do 24K-1] were built by the Swiss Dornier subsidiary, while the remaining 26 Do 24K-2 of the order were license-built in the Netherlands.
Might sound stupid but to me there is something wonderful and romantic about seaplanes and floatplanes that is not shared by landplanes. Anyone suggest a reason?
What do they have to prepare for a water landing you might ask, they have to make sure nothing is floating in the water, which is the achilles heel for all flying boats, the ever changing landing zone.
Several Pan Am Clippers met there fate with floating debris. PBY's PBM's The USN gave up on them during 'Nam... We pray the last Martin Mars never ends up on the bottom. CAVU J.C.
:) Beautiful Flying Boat...... Great so see how much the flight crew enjoys her unique capabilities...... Wonder how many skiers she can drag up on the step????? :)
Le Do 24 était et est toujours un très bel hydravion très en avance dés sa fabrication ,dommage que celui si soit turbinisé mais difficile de retrouver les moteurs d'origine je pense, mais que cela ne soit c'est un plaisir de le voir voler.
Should be produced TODAY! The world NEEDS more flying boats/amphibians.... Water Bombers... The Island Trade Miami Lake Hood Amazon basin.... World Wide! IMHO J.C.
@@yahatinda And none of those were equivalent flying boats to the Do-24. The PBY/Catalina *was*. The Mariner and Sunderland had their German equivalent in the BV-222.
This Dornier model is so beautiful even after so much years after his born
An amazing aircraft. Wonderful.
What an elegant seaplane the Dornier was and is. I bet they have power to spare with those three turbo props. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful , unique design , very impressive performance .

OMG what a beautiful plane. I love that design. It's beautiful the Dornier 24. Beauty post. TY.

Sooooooooo f/n cooooooooool
Lovely, complicated plane. Piece of history. Thank you.
I see the engines have been replaced by turbines. Still, a great historical plane. Gotta love flying boats...

Beautiful, It appears to have the modern Dornier wing with the swept ends, though.
Yes it is a modern "High aspect ratio" wing
Beautiful design of this german plane!
Looks like a flying contraption from Dick Dastardly's ,Stop The Pigeon cartoon.
“ ... Part two - the departure.”
Cut to scene of billowing smoke 😲
Seaplanes are the best of both worlds
I BOUGHT A MODEL OF THE WW2 DO24T BECAUSE I LIKED THE UNUSUAL DESIGN!!
Originally designed for the Royal Dutch Navy for use in the Dutch East Indies with much imput from officers of the Dutch Navy.
Hang on... They put 3 vacuum cleaners on this historic aircraft? :0

Good question. I've wondered how many skiers an aircraft carrier could pull.
@@SBCBears its crazy that you say that, I had a dream of water skiing behind an aircraft carrier many years ago !

Aquarius air plane..✍️🙏😄✍️✅
it has a range of over 4500 km, around 10x that of a helicopter. One day an airliner is going to crash and we wont have sea planes.
For me, with these new turboprops, it's not a genuine Do-24 anymore...
UP YOURS!
FAHRT!
Nice modern engines, but I'd prefer the original Bramo BMWs for the authentic experience.
The PBY Catalina is more Beautiful but the Martin Mariner is more Beautiful, although it was a flying bomb that could explode suddenly
The Do-24 is much better looking than either.
As usual, German technology was superior during WWII. This flying boat was in any way superior to the best the Allies had, the "Catalina".
ALLIES HAD MARTIN MARINER AND SHORT SUNDERLAND EXCELLENT FLYING BOATS. THEN THERE WAS BOEINGs 314 TOP OR THE LINE
