- I make most of my living writing about new cars, but my heart truly belongs to the old ones. And that’s why I’m telling you all about my car, my 1947 Cadillac Series 61 Sedanette.
Enthusiasts often have an era they prefer, and for me, it’s the 1940s - I also own a 1949 Studebaker pickup truck.
American automakers switched their factories to making military supplies during the Second World War, and made their last civilian cars for 1942. They had a “gentleman’s agreement” not to work on new styling during the shutdown, and so when vehicle production restarted with the new 1946 cars, they were just the old models with some design changes.
That puts cars like mine almost into limbo. Collectors tend to either want pre-war cars that are 1942 or older; or the 1950s cars that had big fins. But if you check out the video, you’ll see why there’s so much to love about these “models in the middle.” Have a look!

The 48' Caddy was the first car to have tail fins. They were small but they were the ones that started TF's. Caddy maxxed out with the largest fins of all in 1959. You can still see remnants of the TFs today in the shape of the tail lights on some Caddys.
Back in the 1960s in elementary school whenever we saw the classic 1959 Cadillac, us kids described it as looking like a rocket on wheels!
I have a 4 door s61 1947,what a great you have, and the guy I got my car from has a 1946 s61,I just got his running for him last month.
You have a really good description of your car and what it is.
It’s a serious collector car and it’s the best after the 41.
Yes it falls into a middle ground, but it’s easily one of the most collected Cadillacs ever built.
Love your rare machine.
Lady sure does know her stuff. Very nice car.
Very well told and very correct thoughts about this car!
I love this tilted B-pillar too. On the 62 series, the straight pillar only spoils the appearance of this car.
That's a red beauty of a 47 Cadillac
Fine looking Caddy. The postwar years were likely not so easy for those American auto makers. Readjustment after a major war will make it quite challenging to get all production back to full swing. Car production included.
For me the 1946 Cadillac had the best art dedo radiator grill. 😊
Beautiful car! I love it !!!
Love her style
That's a good looking cadillac love it
Beautiful car! My father had one here in Brazil in the 1950s. I have the photo, like you said, it was black
Jil,I was so "joyed" by your video, your explanation of the rarity of the late 40s cars due to WW2,and you fabulous soirit and philosophy about cars -- that I'm compelled to say thank you and BRAVO@!!
Cool Lady, cool car and it's a driver not a trailer queen. It has more class than my 47 Chevy.
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing this beauty jil
Mamma mia e' bellissimaaaaaa!
Looks like my Ruby's (2015 ATS Coupe manual 6 speed) grandfather! Same colour and a turbo, here in Brampton Canada.
Beautiful but expensive...I want a nova muscle car...that’s my dad dad first car

And I would add that when Jil got Lucile the gas gauge didn't work. I know that because it ran out of gas one day and I helped push that monster of a car into a gas ⛽ station 🤣. My back still hurts. The back seat area is the size of a downtown Toronto condo!

Chevy Engines are the go to engines for Hotrods and restomods. The 350 Chevy is the go to engine for anything.
