  • Looking back at my mastectomy now, I have a lot of clarity, but a month before my surgery I had no idea what I would wish for today. I'm sharing this super personal and unexpected part of story so that others can have one more surprising perspective on what they're future self might possibly want. Disclaimers: My story is highly influenced by not wanting implants, having large breasts to begin with, and not having a lot of emotional attachment or image attachment to my breasts. (Remember to consult with your doctor about risk factors before making ANY decisions about mastectomy!)

I do cry from time to time. My bilateral mastectomy and 3 lymphnodes were done 2/1/24. I struggle with the harshness of a flat, hard chest. Clothes look weird on me. I really don't want to deal with prosthetics, so I imagine I can learn to embrace this new form

What state do you live in? I can try to connect you with a group of local flatties maybe? I'm a part of Stand Tall AFC, and we get flatties together for breast cancer walks.

Ok, so first I want to tell you about a beautiful soul named Marisa Kimmel. I know her from insta and she's one of the reasons I keep going back there. She's a ray of light and one of the best gals I know to show how flat can be lovely in clothing or not. She posts photos and vids daily of her own wardrobe choices, and she's a detroit flattie. She did her mastectomies preventatively. I don't think she's involved in the flattie community yet, but we hope to have many more walks this year, so maybe? I'll keep you in mind if you can share your info privately with me at kathleenm0ss@protonmail.com. Change the zero in my name to an o before sending.

I will have single mastectomy, reconstruction from my belly fat was my first thought but having the thought of second operation for nipple made decide to go flat. The only concern is it is single mastectomy. As you said dressing issues with prosthetic puts me off. For the Double mastectomy insurance isnt covering it,if your second breast is healthy. It is a tough decision.
