Vocal Coach REACTS to DEVIN TOWNSEND- KINGDOM

- I started off organically pleased at the vocal beast Sir Devin. Then the emotion from deep down in my soul shot inside me and I was a mess. This is what happens when technical meets emotion.
ps I later regained consciousness

OG VIDEO : • Devin Townsend perform...
Love you all. Thanks for all the love : )
A little bit about me..
Rebecca is a passionate Singer-Songwriter/Vocal coach/mentor /impressionist/photographer/creative junkie /self- development lover not a hater.
“I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well, maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2016. However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also, thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self-confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.
Holly cow! This man is a beast!! What a new discovery for me! Thanks to whom requested this to you, and thank you for allowing me to discover me him through your channel. Wow!! Simply... WOW!
Check out strapping Young lad ! Metal Canadians dev Is a beast
Now go listen Supercrush with Anneke Van Griesbergen and the full Royal Albert Hall live. Your life will never be the same 😄
There’s a million reaction videos to this song on RUclips. (I counted them). I’m surprised you’re just now hearing this song. Better late than never though.
Since I discovered Devin, I've already listened to a few DTP albums on Amazon music, of which I've bought in CD format Sky Blue and Transcendence. I also have seen some live videos of him with Anneke. I loved her voice since the first album of the The Gathering, she fits so perfectly with DTP songs... (I love specially Fallout).
Bro welcome to party! He has a new album out this Friday (March 29)
Rebecca: "I LOVE his accent!"
Me, as a Canadian: "What accent?"
truth
Hell, me as an American “wait that’s an American accent right...?” I live like 20 miles from Victoria, Canada so it’s mutually inclusive to my ears lol
HA HA I thought the exact same thing.
I never realized I had an accent until I met a guy from Australia in a smoking room at an airport in Bejing of all places.
After talking to him for a couple minutes he asked where I was from. When I told him I lived in Vancouver he said "I knew it... I know a guy who lives in Victoria and he talks exactly like you."
Me as a Newfoundlander: how?!
You may want to get a pregnancy test.
Positive
So funny.
Genuinely LOL'd at this, thank you, needed that this morning :-)
😂😂😂😂
this just had me fuckin dying
Find a girl that looks at you the way Rebecca does when she's watching Devin Townsend!
She could hardly breathe man.

Finally Hevy Devy!!! You NEED to watch his "Deadhead" performance at Royal Albert Hall! But get some tissues befor
YASSSSS!
Yep... If this made her misty eyed, the last minute of Deadhead is going to be waterfalls. Devin has songs where he appears super powerful and goofy, and then he has a dark side where he shows how vulnerable and manic he can get.
@@VividAbominations I cried like a baby hearing it for the first time. One of my greatest musical moments

Devin Townsend is one of the greatest underrated musicians of all time. He's pure talent 100%. and a fucking genius.
Absolutely... A gift from the The Providence... Ave!
I first heard him in strapping young lad, deadhead live at the Albert Hall is a emotional roller coaster

I was really just thinking aboot Devin as being the Mad Hatter :))
@@11sus it works really lol.
yep over 25 albums deep
New album out soon 👍
Yeah... Currently a few years down here, still not nearly at the bottom.
Devin turned down many record labels because they pressured him / his band to conform to mainstream. In the end, he's a rockstar by his own sweat, blood and tears, making deals on his own, touring, recording, organizing, and giving guitar lessons.
He's also been there before when he sang in another guitarist who will remain nameless. He did the whole Tonight Show appearances and such. So he knows how the grass on the other side looks.
Next: Devin Townsend reacts to Rebecca reacts to Devin Townsend... Would be cool if that became a trend
Yes!!!
It would be amazingly hilarious, I'm sure!
I'm sure his Canadian sensibilities will have a good chuckle at your English tea break... this isn't a Cricket match, lady! We just cry and let the music keep washing over us, no breaks! haha
Devin seems so down to earth he would probably be up for that. Problem is he is so busy

Seeing you impacted by Devin's performance was amazing. He is, in my opinion, a genius. BTW, when you are "being so English". That's what makes you so endearing, that was the best part of the video. You're amazing.
We all cried with you Rebecca. No shame.
Wait until you react to the songs with Anneke...
GRACE live 🤘
I’d love to see an Anneke reaction as well
Anneke is on this one, she sings the female background stuff.
I love everything he did together with Anneke van Giersbergen. Saw them live together 3 times and they have the most awesome chemistry. Anything from his Addicted album. My favourite is Numbered but the whole album is great.

I like how she hearted it and didn't say anything lmfao
Not just women...

Wet? I got pregnant!!!
i'm gonna wet too, my ears gonna wet
Dear Rebecca, I've noticed that you have a tendency to cry over metal music. There's something about the extremity of these kinds of vocals that trigger your tears. It's weird but in a good way! It really gives your reaction videos an extra portion of genuinity. As always, keep it up!
Hey. Thanks so much. It's like something clicks in my head and I can't stop the force of music which drills inside me. I dunno if that made sense.

I get this. From the most random of songs. Some will just bring me to tears for absolutely no reason. It's usually when I'm happy too so it's not like I'm sad and music pushes me over the edge. It's a weird reaction to explain to people who don't experience it.
I love this comment. ❤️ it’s a wonderful thing.
Devin was discovered by Steve Vai and he was the lead singer on the 1993 album Sex & Religion. Devin has reincarnated himself many times since then with Strapping Young Lad, the Devin Townsend Band and the Devin Townsend Project. He has also done a lot of producing as well as appearances as both vocalist and guitarist on many other artists' albums. In the end he is revered as a musical genius and has done albums from Ambient to Metal. As I am sure that you have found out, his fans are extremely loyal!!
Some of us are late to the game but I think give instant loyalty!
Hahaha I think we all just witnessed you falling in love ;)
its unfair that one guy can be this talented. he writes all the music and then plays guitar and sings like that. it's just ridiculous
Given all the work and trouble he's had, it's totally fair. He earned that stage.
Draithegemini no doubt hes been in the scene grinding for 3 decades. Saw him with SYL back in the 90s. totally different vibe than his solo work. he had the crazy skullett haha. good times
I cry every night I wasn’t born with this voice.
Then records and mix and make post, and then mastering on his own.
Through sheer force of will too he is inspiring!
Thats some funny stuff. She went through every emotion in less then 3 minutes. The faces she was making were priceless. So funny.
How Cardi B is well known and this guy is unknown is showing the systemic failures in the music industry
2:32 I think she just fell in love haha
"pretty cool guy huh... Beastly man"
And how she was fixated on his mouth. First in a technical sense, and then obviously nothing to do with technique afterwards. 😂😂😂
It started at 1:15
Deadhead at Royal Albert Hall HAS to be next. I saw him do an acoustic set at Manchester cathedral and it was breathtaking. His voice is phenomenal and he's a character, really nice guy. He's been making music since around about the early 90s.
I 2nd this!
And you have to remember that he was in the middle of really bad cold/flu during that performance and had been singing for like 2 hours
I was at that gig at the Cathedral too :D
@@cl0udbear it was a great gig, I had such a good time.

I KNEW Devy would make you cry! He's the greatest Canadian EVER. I recommend you download the album Transcendence by The Devin Townsend Project. It will give you full-on Eargasm.
Anneke van Giersbergen (I recommended to you) is a regular collaborator with Devin.
What I found unique and kind of annoying about Devin's music is the layers and the overuse of wall of sound on the records but live he's one of a kind
Yeah that is a killer album
Rva really appreciates every aspect of singing and music, she cries from melody and execution, real music right there
Vancouver's favorite son, a fine Canadian lad and another great person. Devon gives back so much to the music community every chance he gets. I'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he so richly deserves. Strapping Lad was the beginning the of DT Journey but I think that band and it's genre boxed him in and he knew it and went solo when it had run it's course. The guy is simply electric.
Steve Vai could see the talent from a mile away.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Devon playing backup for him at 17? If so that just shows how amazingly talented Canadian bastard is
THAT was a great album!! I do believe it is on account of Devin that Steve would begin seven string slinging too. hearing that low growl in the guitar was massive to him. I believe this was when Devin was with Strapping young lad!
funny considering hes more talented than steve vai
I cried 20 years ago when i frist heard this genius and at 61 i sill do.
I'm just going to echo what others are saying: Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall) His vocals at the end are chills inducing.
Yes. This. Absolute beast. I come back to that one every now and then. Absolute madman.
I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Devin Townsend is like a mad scientist of metal
Being a Canadian, Townsend is a treasure here. I like to think of him as a Canadian Zappa. You need to do Peter Steele from Type O Negative, one of the most unique voices in rock history.
The only thing in common with Zappa is the goofy humour. Devi is probably the most talented Canadian singer of all time.
Aaah, the unmistakeable effects of the “wall of sound”.
Also, he appears and act really confident, but he’s talked several times about how he’s really insecure, and how he uses this posture and humor to overcome it
Yeah, those are the emotions i expect from a first reaction to Kingdom. What a belter of a song.
Wow, I didn't expect that to bring you to tears... that is definitely a reaction. First saw Devy when I was 14, won't say how long ago that was but I've tried to catch a show in every tour since. One of the greatest.
If this song brought you to tears, try "The Death Of Music" Live version.
@Chewy Ltd No ;) it's from Ocean Machine (DT record) and t's a music with great intensity and incredible emotions
Welcome to devin Townsend. This man has been changing my life for 23 years. He is one of the most under-rated musicians in the world;
5.42 Devin just broke this woman.
Devin Townsend is a legend. And he's every metalheads guilty pleasure. Even fans of the most brutal stuff love Devin Townsend. And he has humor. His live shows are hilarious. He makes tons of jokes and just brings so much energy and happiness with him on stage. One wouldn't know he's been suffering from severe depression for years. He is just such an uplifting person, and he got me through some s**t too. I saw the show at Royal Albert Hall that people are talking about, and it was a mindblowing experience. I laughed, I cried, I was amazed. Devy is ascended.
No guilt, all pleasure!
why the hell would it be guilt? he's not some novelty artist because he occasionally mentions cheeseburgers and farts, his skill and writing is extraordinary and his ranges from the most brutal in itself to the most sensitive. I know you know that being a fan yourself, but it was worth saying again. guilty pleasure, my balls
Used to be he WAS the most brutal stuff, back when he led Strapping Young Lad. "Oh My Fucking God" is, even today, the most violently angry song I have ever heard. This man is a national treasure!
He is THE man. Our Canadian hero! hehe
Guilty pleasure? Step off of it! No guilt involved for any fans of his music.
As you noted, Devin is a singer of rare talent, and also a great guitar player, and a born showman. And a lot of his songs are heavily laden with tons of emotion. The EMGtv version of Kingdom is, in my opinion, the single best introduction to his work. But if you delighted in what you saw here as much as you seemed to, just for your own enjoyment, not even so much for the channel necessarily, I cannot sufficiently recommend his video called '"Grace" (The Retinal Circus) Official Promo Video
', on his own official Devin Townsend
youtube channel. He shares the stage with his long-time collaborator Anneke van Giersbergen (whom he got to know because she recorded a cover version of one of his songs that impressed him enough to contact her), and the video is worth checking out just on her merits - but on top there's still Devin and a whole little choir because the song is as close to a heavy metal church hymn as one is likely ever to find.
I'd recommend Deadhead from the same show as well. I love it because it's being performed at the end of a gigantic set, and you can see how much love he's putting into every note. Simply awesome.
@@njh0183 You're thinking of his Live at the Royal Albert Hall performance. The Retinal Circus was a very different beast. Obviously though both are great. Deadhead just has like... four and a half minutes of pure instrumental in the middle of it, which from a vocal-centric point of view is dead air. For specifically vocals from the Live at the Royal Albert Hall performance my suggestion would be The Death of Music - from low whispering to that absolutely insane crescendo. And his visible goosebumps when he approaches the ending.
She will cry if she watches Grace @ Retinal Circus. Not that I know firm experience.
@@frdmstnggt99 She'd better have a box of tissues and smelling salts ready.

I met Devin 10 years ago during one of his gigs in Scotland. He spent the evening after his gig in the nightclub just to let the fans meet him and take photos with him. He was SUPER cool and lovely. He even recorded a video for me asking me to fetch the universes best cup of coffee (from his Ziltoid album). He’s hilarious

Damm right he is beast, blasting out the melody & singing in synchronization, takes the left & right brains, which I definitely don’t have, and at the same time being camera-genic! That’s true showmanship, and that’s one of a kind!
Take it to the next level- Devin ‘Deadhead’ live at Royal Albert.
I'm so glad you liked this! Others have mentioned 'Deadhead' live at Royal Albert Hall, which is good. I have to admit, 'Stormbending' from his Devin Townsend Project has a chorus that just pulls at my heart every time. I would stick with the official video for that one.
@k g Stormbending?

She is so sincere in appreciation.
I have watched this reaction at least 50 times now, the look of awe an your face never gets old, RVA 😂
Your reaction is so damn cute and awesome to watch, i feel like crying too all the time i listen to this guy
You really need to do Deadhead from Devins live at Royal Albert Hall next!! And if you're really into Devys soft clean vocals, watch his acoustic performance of Hyperdrive from EmgTV, it's just...amazing!
Exactly this!
I find it so strange that so many women react this way to Devin Townsend (and metal in general). Metal music used to be so "uncool" years ago, but now people really get the opportunity to dive in and appreciate it, for both its technicality and emotion. Devin can be emotionally genuine without being sappy (like most of today's pop music). Unless he wants to be totally sappy. I wonder if Devin knows he's a sex symbol?
That's 'cause metal became a about virtuosity instead of honest expression, then later it was 'bought' by major record labels, industrialised, labelled "nu metal", and churned out like boy band pop with rap and shouting added. Only independents like Dev that never touched a major truly survived.
Also Dev is probably one of the only metal artists to call BS on singing about 'non masculine' subjects like love.
"beastly man" lol shes into him
Flabby PigLegs
Dude, no kidding; in that moment she wanted Devin to unleash the beast on her, lmao.
You really un ironically cried? You have an amazing soul then, and ears
Yay! Now here's the thing, the difference between this and one of his performances with one of his bands, like the Royal Albert Hall gig that everyone always recommends, is MASSIVE. The atmosphere is out of this world and it'll be a different level of experience, truly. My personal favourite song is "Deadhead" which also happens to be what everyone usually recommends but "Death of Music" and "Bastard" are incredible too.
This is such a good start!
In my opinion The death of music is richer vocally
Thank you for saying Bastard.
These videos are 4 years old already.
Devin is exploding. He’s a metal singer. The master. Funny as hell.
He’s got a new album coming out, it’s supposedly going to be his best yet.

Perfect introduction and reaction to the legendary Devin Townsend! You should definitely do more by him, he's a musical genius and a vocal powerhouse; his range is absolute. And he's also Canadian like Jim Carrey
I love your reactions to stuff. I laughed at the 'I'm so English right now.' I get that totally 😂 i follow a few of these channels and I'm amazed that no one seems to have done a Mike Patton reaction.
Your reaction to his vocals is pure feeling, and hard to hold back...I don't think everyone in the world is as deeply attached to sounds that draw such raw emotion. It's a blessing, and I'm glad to know I'm not alone.
Devin is god... You need to check out his other live stuff

Don't have to film a reaction.. but I know you'll watch this TWICE at a minimum.. Devin Townsend Project - Grace (Live - The Retinal Circus)
So true!!!
Dev is one of the best front-men I have ever seen live. Very self-effacing and funny fellow Canadian. He is also bi-polar which made him slot his music into different projects. He was like a mad scientist with Strapping Young Lad. So good.....
funny is an extreme understatement for him, he's nuts
Everyone wants Deadhead but The Death of Music from Royal Albert Hall is fantastic and better than Deadhead in my opinion. It shows another side of Devin and his voice. My next hope is that you do Untouchable Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 by Anathema from the Universal concert. Great male and female vocals displaying so much emotion.
Devin Townsend has an amazing amount of talent and a complex history. His earliest music was matched with extensive addiction struggles, Strapping Young Lad (his early band) was an amazing thrash/industrial metal band but Devin ended it when he sobered up and lost the focused anger which drove his song writing in that period. The Devin Townsend project and other musical forays since reflect a calmer and more playful Devvy. His skill and versatility as a musician, singer and writer (he still plays the old stuff as well) is basically unmatched, lot of artists can do one or rarely two of these things as well, but all three..... Devin Townsend is an artist not of a generation but of an era.
This seriously calls for some Jari Mäenpää from Wintersun, try loneliness or sons of winter and stars live rehersal or Time live rehersal 😎
Even it's more about playing than singing. But good singer Jari is even he's lungs are operated

Oh yeah, he is Canadian, speaking of Canadian comedians lol, I have a feeling that if you watched "The Death of Music" live @ the Royal Albert Hall that the tears would flow like a faucet, he puts the guitar down for that song and actually focuses on the vocals, very powerful performance
Oh, some of his albums are actually comedy and some easy listening, some over complicated prog and his old band Strapping Young Lad is just raw Heavy Metal, he writes music that he feels at the time and has a the talent to really display and pass on his emotions in ways that very few can as well as being an excellent person, there's definitely never going to be another artist like Devin
