I sent the C40 team an inquiry about how long the Comandante will last out of curiosity - "a few generations" is their response. You are in good hands. Happy brewing!
The regular JX is a valid option as well. You still get 30 clicks per revolution and the same high quality burr set for a slightly more democratic price. Settings are at the bottom (as with Commandante) but taking it apart for cleaning is easier and it's said to have less grinds retention than the Pro. The regular JX has a slightly smaller diameter as well, so easier on the hands to grind. It pairs up very well with my Cafelat Robot.
The advantage of the JX Pro is the wider range of adjustments available for dialing-in for espresso. Yes, value for money with both grinders and good point on the smaller diameter which makes it easier to grip. JX is a lot faster as well in grinder for pour over based on Coffee Chronicler's review. I'd love to try the Cafelat Robot and compare it side-by-side with the Flair Pro 2!
The JX is a great grinder but when I had the doubt I asked 1Zpresso about the real differences between the JX and the JX-pro and their reply was interesting: while the burrs are exactly the same, the central burr on the JX-pro is attached to the shaft for better stability and grind uniformity. The JX is a highly capable grinder and an awesome all rounder, just as the JX-pro but being the PRO a more precise, specialized tool with s much finer adjustment mechanism

Aergrind will serve this purpose well! It's not so good though for espresso but works well for pourovers and aeropress. Will make a review about this soon. See you around!

Hi, I've never tried the C40 before but if budget is not an issue and you are mostly drinking pour over then I'd go with the C40. I've read a lot of articles online pointing out that c40 can help extract better flavors over any other hand grinders out there. We'd really love to compare the two grinders in terms of taste in the future. If you see yourself eventually exploring espresso or budget is important, I'd go with the JX Pro :) I'm happy with it both for espresso and pour over

Tra il Comandante e il JX Pro qual’e’ è il migliore per fare il caffè turco in gezve, quale macina sotto le 200n,voglio ottenere una polvere finissima! Chi mi aiuta?
Porlex, Timemore C2, Hario are good starting grinders for french press and pour over. But if you see yourself drinking espresso in the future, the JX Pro will be a good choice both french press and espresso :)
How does the espresso taste? I have been using the comandante for 1 year and just recently got the kinu since I wasn't satisfied even with the red clix, but it took only a few weeks to find out that it is a struggle to dial in the kinu (tbh I was amazed that I experienced exactly what James Hoffmann said) and even dialed in, I'm liking like the espresso from the comandante more. Kinu gives way too much body and texture that my taste buds and stomach starts rejecting the espresso. The comandante gives an espresso pretty close to my coffee shop's 2000E grinder, balanced and lighter bodied.
The only comparison point that I have is my mazzer mini and I honestly don't taste any difference between the two if it is perfectly dialed in even if the burr types are different. I've read a couple of reviews and comments saying that the c40 brings out more flavour out of the coffee both for espresso and pourover. I'd really like to see for myself but it will set me back 15k at the very least haha. will definitely be an interesting experiment though :)
Been using comandante for 3.5 years, the burr still the same as new, nothing change at all still produce perfect grind result especially for pourover guy like me
Fully agree, I've asked the C40 team about durability and was told it is designed to last a few generations. One of the points on this vid about the glass jar breaking is no longer relevant too with the new polymer material of the C40. Happy brewing!
I've tried them both but never got a chance to compare them side by side. I honestly think there will be minimal to no difference between the two in terms of taste based on my experience (and my untrained palate haha). Let us know your findings too!
Hello, I have bought the Jx-Pro last week and having a minor problem with it, when I grind for French-Press. The problem is a friction between the plastic of the handle with the frame of the 1zpresso metal body beginning from the setting number 47. Between 1 to 46 the handle will run smooth but from 47 its beginning to build noise of friction. For me it ruins the perfect feeling of grinding the beans. Hope that you can maybe test it with your unit and write me back, if you are having the same problem. Otherwise it would mean that it is a problem with my unit.
Hi Talib, there's no friction between the plastic handle and metal frame after setting it up at 47. It's most likely a factory defect. I have they gray dot indicator by the way just to make sure we have the same version :)
The JX-PRO seems like a very good grinder. I calculated that it should last for 30 years with my coffee usage of around 1/2 LB (227g) every four weeks.
I did the math as well, and for me, assuming a peak performance within the 150kg-180kg range and based on my 50gr per day usage, my JX-pro should do fine for 8+ years! (Wow)
Thank you! I also use the 1z for pour-overs and the finer adjustability makes it easy to dial-in your beans. Honestly not sure about the impact to taste between the two grinders. We'll most likely do an experiment about it soon!
Hi Jun, I've never tried yung kplus at this point, but JXPro gamit ko at the moment both for pour over and espresso and really happy with it so far. Super easy to change the settings from pour over to espresso and almost half the price sa kplus :)
@@junf6347 JX-pro is the best bet. Kindly note that the K series are luxurious but cup quality is up there (as many others have said, I can't spot a taste difference TBH)
I saw a comparison video yesterday where the reviewer claimed that the Timemore Chestnut X had a slightly more uniform grind, but that the Commandante created more nuances in the flavor, which he personally preferred. Im thinking different grinders may be good for different coffees - and i may also want one flavor profile when i have my first coffee of the day, and another one on my next. I ordered the Commandante earlier today, and considering to buy the Chestnut X later. Although... I guess just changing the grind size should be enough to give the amount of bitterness i want at any given time, so im not sure i need 2 grinders... But i may still want to try out both of these... IDK...
Is this the video from Kyle Rowsell? C40 is always a great choice especially for pour overs so congrats on your new gear! We're almost in the same situation - I'm considering to pull the trigger on a c40 to see if there is really a difference in taste against the jxpro. And the c40 is just so beautiful in black. What a price to pay for being curious but I guess the experience is really different if we get to taste side by side :)
@@babescoffee373 Yeah, im pretty sure it is Kyle who talked about it, although i have watched a whole bunch of similar videos the last few days, so im not 100% sure. And yeah, its kinda pricey, so i think maybe ill just go with an electrical grinder instead next time. I got an OLD hand grinder for free some years ago, and grinding for 1 cup was ok, but grinding for several people was a PITA, so i ended up removing the handle and connecting my power drill to turn the grinder. It worked pretty good, but im not sure if the C40 is good enough build quality for this...
Got the Commandante grinder today, and grinding on this one was a breeze in comparison to that old grinder. I will not have any problems grinding for 2 or even 3 people on this one.
Great review! Glad I found you on RUclips! May I ask if it's worth upgrading a Timemore C2 to a JX pro? Currently brewing on Aeropress and V60. Would my coffee taste significantly better if I upgrade?
hi chase, you will have a wider grind range with the JX Pro compared to the timemore c2. taste wise, I'd say yes, it will have an impact din because of your control sa grind settings. I highly recommend din yung JXPRO pag mag espresso ka na :) you can grind finer and definitely faster with the JX Pro.

@@babescoffee373 thank you, maraming salamat, po! I just watched the video again with subtitles enabled. It really made it so enjoyable! The Hario is a distant cousin compared to your grinder. But at a cost under $50/2500 pesos for the unit and a $10 mod to improve coarse grind consistency, it is a viable choice for the budget conscious. Where it really falls short is grind time. It takes a lot of time to grind even small amounts of coffee. But for the power tool oriented individual, there is a handy fix for that too.
hello sir, ask ko lng .. pano po ang workflow pag 2 double espresso shots using jx pro? kasya ba lets say 2 x 18gms in one grind, or you need to do it seperately .. would you recommend this manual grinder to lets say breville smart pro grinder? thanks po
Hi Christian, max capacity is only around 35g depending on your beans so kaya naman double shot at 17g per shot :) or you can choose to add more beans in the middle of the grinding process if it does not fit. JXPro has a wider range of grind adjustments which has been really helpful when dialing in beans for my manual espresso machine. It's also portable if you plan to travel with it and would only cost 7k. If workflow/efficiency is more important, go with the smart pro grinder or DF64 might be a good option too at Php20k :)
My E-Pro defected after few kilos of coffee (less than 10 kg). The shaft have started to turn relative to the burr due to production defect. The problem fix is unacceptable $176.
My main comment on the Jx Pro is that it would be nice if the numbers were filled with red paint, or even black paint, to make them easier to see. It would also be nice if the threads on the container were larger. These are minor issues. Otherwise, it’s a lovely machine, and it makes lovely coffee when used with my moka pot.
Aergrind by Knock, it's okay for aeropress and pour overs but I wouldn't recommend it for espresso because of the limited range of adjustments. Bought it 2nd hand for 5k so still cheaper than C40 overall haha!
OMG! super mahal! I found one called KINGrinder K0 Silver Manual Hand Coffee Grinder sa amazon. What's your take on this? I wanna buy a manual grinder for espresso but I don't think I'd buy a $100+ grinder, please don't judge me lol
The K0 should work if you mostly brew pourovers to aeropress :) But if you also plan to make espresso or use a moka pot, I'd go with the jxpro or K4 :) they are decide to accommodate all types of brewing methods so there's no need to upgrade in the future!
@@babescoffee373 thanks much!! I closed my eyes and hit the buy now button on Amazon and yes, the JXPro is amazing! I set mine to 83 clicks atm and was able to pull some nice shots. Still calibrating my taste buds tho, lol! Thanks again kabayan! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I find it interesting that folks who didn't buy the Commandante try to justify their purchase of whatever grinder they bought instead. You're not going to find Commandante users doing that which speaks volumes.
The real purpose is to help others who are in the same decision point between the two grinders. No more, no less. C40 is definitely a good product but not for my method of brewing coffee which is espresso.
@@babescoffee373 I'm not ragging on your video, it's just a general statement. I think the problem here is that the Commandante is arguably the BEST travel grinder for filter coffee and people are attempting to use it AT HOME as some sort of budget espresso grinder. I think the Red Clix was designed to give those folks a little more adjustability but really if one is interested in proper espresso at home, they should stop being so cheap and buy a dedicated countertop grinder.
We're on the same page and I've been really wanting to experiment to see if a regular home brewer will be able to distinguish the taste difference between the c40 and other hand grinders. This is assuming the settings are as close as possible. Have you seen Lance Hedrick's motor kit video for the c40? You can already buy a dedicated espresso grinder for its price point but I guess there will always be a market for these kind of upgrades.
@@babescoffee373 That's an interesting test! I own 4 burr grinders and over the last year I have gravitated to the C40 for regular morning use. I don't do espresso though. Could my friends tell the difference? Of course not. But they're not the type of folks who'd own 4 different burr grinders, lol.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on the MK4 C40 just to see for myself haha. The resale value of the c40 is nothing to worry about if it does not work. Since you own 4 grinders, could you tell the difference in taste when using the C40? Really interested to know :)

Thank you, Allen! Yes, I've seen a couple of videos using an electric drill to make grinding more convenient!
hello sir, ask ko lng .. pano po ang workflow pag 2 double espresso shots using jx pro? kasya ba lets say 2 x 18gms in one grind, or you need to do it seperately .. would you recommend this manual grinder to lets say breville smart pro grinder?
Nice one sir planning to buy that one 😊
go for it! Thank you and happy brewing :)
My E-Pro defected after few kilos of coffee (less than 10 kg). The shaft have started to turn relative to the burr due to production defect. The problem fix is unacceptable $176.
is it no longer covered by warranty?? so sorry to hear this :(
@@babescoffee373 thankyou. That is not a big problem, just want to inform coffee lovers that the 1Zpresso quality is not incomparable.
I agree on all points and I guess age is showing for us both haha! Thanks for watching =)
Hi! Amazing video. What is the brand of your 2nd grinder? Okay po ba?
Aergrind by Knock, it's okay for aeropress and pour overs but I wouldn't recommend it for espresso because of the limited range of adjustments. Bought it 2nd hand for 5k so still cheaper than C40 overall haha!
Every time I watch your video hahahah nosebleed po tlga, thanks for sharing it really helps po
haha. thank you!
Coffee lover here. Sana makatikim ako nun espresso
Yes, let us know if nasa Las Pinas ka. Free espresso haha
as a c40 user, and weeks later found out about the j-max, big sad (made in japan version)
c40 is a great product and will also last for generations according to their team from Germany! Still a good purchase cheer up! :)
nagbabalik po ako para i-check yung grinder. mukhang maganda talaga e.
Thank you and happy brewing :)
Appreciate you sharing as a fellow beginner
Welcome! Watch out for the upcoming videos and subscribe :)
OMG! super mahal!
Great content!
Thank you Ryan! More to come :)
Really interested to know :)
ang ganda naman , san kaya pwdi maka bili ng ganyan

Thank you and happy brewing :)
Thank you for making this video, I'm trying to decide which hand grinder to buy, I'm considering 1zpresso jx pro and timmemore g1, love the design of g1 but my mind says go with jx haha
haha let us know your decision! Happy so far with the jx pro and have been using this both for espresso and pour over. I have to admit, the G1's aesthetic design is better and the color options will fit any set-up!
Thanks for sharing that to the beginners po... God bless.
Thank you and happy brewing :)
1zpresso jx pro i think is better. no need to adjust the setting at the bottom. its faster and efficient.
agree arjay. really easier in terms of the overall workflow :)
Coffee is life Sana makatikim ako ng sample mo Lodi
If nasa las pinas ka. Give us a message haha
napaka ganda naman talaga nyan lodi , pwde mong dahil kahit saan dahil madali lang syang dalhin
Laag Heneral here support forever
Thank you and yes very portable pag nag travel! Thank you and happy brewing :)
This is the way.
agree :)
JX pro is a Comandante killer for sure
yes, agree especially for espresso drinkers. Pour over will possibly be a different story :)
@@babescoffee373 nah I use the JXpro primarily for Chemex it goes through beans fast and gives me good consistent grounds. I guess if you don't care about espresso at all then the JX base would be fine but why not leave the doors open
What is the capacity of the JX-pro?
Should be 35 grams! I have never tried to grind that much though
Kana maoy sakto Idol ipakita jd ang tinood
Thank you and happy brewing :)
Coffee which makes the politician wise, and see through all things with his half-shut eyes.
hindi ko gets sir haha
Commandante is like any other hand grinder, is mass produced and over_priced. The original is the brass turkish hand grinder which is the best
According to the C40 team it is designed to last a "few generations" probably this is one of the main value behind it. Fully agree that it is really expensive!
Comandante: Made in Germany 🇩🇪
My only complain for this grinder is that heavy body weight😅
Ang mahal naman...sana balang araw makatikim naman ng ganyan klaseng kape...
Thank you and happy brewing :)
1Zpresso Kplus namn po sir 😁
If may budget na haha! Hopefully soon. Happy brewing!
Akala ko kanina kung para saan. D kasi familiar. Pang kape pala.
hahahaha
Good day sir thanks for sharing this video from team samrush

Yes, readily available. Please see the link as well on our channel :)
Anu po b yn png kape, ang mahal pla mg kape nlng aq 3in1 peace
Hahaha! Tama basta masarap sayo ang coffee yan pinaka importante!
Commandante is overrated and pricey.
Can't help but agree! Competition is really good for consumers at the end of the day! :)
Bad decision and bad taste.
Thank you! Please educate me. I'd like to learn more :)
