Good review of the product and placement. My wife's grandparents lived in the mid west and their house was 50 ft from the railroad tracks - very realistic.

These are cool for setting up a little layout around the Christmas tree - for those so inclined - where you can set the tracks, trains, and plop a house or two in there as well! No muss, no fuss! Lots of uses for these built-ups!

They're expensive, but worth it in the long run if you don't have a whole lot of time to sit down and build a kit. I'm getting ready to rebuild my layout with a different track plan that will better lend itself to modeling a rural farming/railroading community. I'm switching over to Woodland Scenics products. With the exception of my grain elevator which is a Walthers kit,...my other structures will be a mix of Built-N-Ready structures, and DPM kits,...mix things up a bit. Gas station on the layout will be from City classics(Crafton Ave. gas station). Track will be from Atlas, and all of the rolling stock, including locomotives, will be from Athearn! My community church will be from Walthers.

You can and should paint the interior wall with flat black to block any interior light from bleeding through the walls, let it dry, then go over that with a flat white to allow the lighting to brighten up the interior.

The little wooden structure with vines/flowers ... called a trellis. The upright silver tank with the dark cap around back ... propane tank, not oil ... tsk, tsk, James! LOL!!! It sort of resembles my wife's Grandparents house! Cute! Pricey, but there is a market for those who want an "instant" structure ... I prefer building my own, but there is room for all! It's a hobby after all ... not a lifestyle!

Nevermind it wouldn't be beneficial for everyone! Keep up the good videos!

I picked one of these houses up recently as well. I had a small issue with the plants on the wall on mine hanging half off. That aside, they're a cute little house. I also got the treehouse and windmill to go with it on my 1954 layout.

Nice video. Good to see you take on a structure once in a while. I agree that the price is a bit high, but you end up with a really neat little structure with lots of "cute" details. Further, quite a few online retailers have pretty fair discounts on Woodland Scenics stuff. Another approach is that several of the WS buildings have been made available as kits, so you can save a few bucks if you like to do your own assembly. James - constructive criticism; when you review a structure can you mention the approximate "footprint" that it requires?

Hi there, I have three questions I'd like to ask you... #1 Does Woodland Scenics offer kit versions of their Built-Up items? #2 Have you ever been to the North Carolina Transportation Museum and The Little Choo Choo Shop in Spencer,NC? an #3 Do you have a page on Facebook? Thank you in advance, hope you're well.

This model as is is a bit generationally confused. More of a 1960s to 1980s cross. Still a bit of modifications will make it work.

I never use anything as is. It's on the workbench right now being cleaned up, refined, modified, and made exactly what I want.

The same with me. The strong point of this model is that it comes with everything you would need to make it fit over 3 decades. A bit of mods, and you have it.

+1 Kirk. And downspouts, not gutters. The gutters are on the edges of the roof.
