The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy this holiday season helping a local man gift $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho. Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to bless as many individuals in our community as he can.
We receive Secret Santa nominations from people of all ages, including this teenager who wanted us to know about her best friend:
Emily and I have been friends since 3rd grade. That is about five years because we are in 8th grade now. She is 13 years old and has gone through a lot over the past year. Her grandma died from cancer when she was just a few years old and her fear has been that her mom would die of cancer. Let's just say that nightmare came true.
About one year ago, Emily's mom became really sick and was in and out of the hospital while the doctors struggled to figure out what was wrong with her. She was soon diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. A few short months later, on Nov. 13, 2020, Emily's mom passed away exactly one week and one day before her birthday. She left behind her 6 young kids.
Even before her mom died, Emily acted like a mom to her siblings but even more since her passing. She is the sweetest person I've met.
Secret Santa wanted to surprise Emily with some early Christmas gifts and asked the East Idaho News elves to pay her a visit. Watch the video above to see the surprise!

yeah man i met this girl like 3 months ago who is just 19 with two sisters to take care of. She doesn't have a dad and her mom is still just lingering around and she doesn't always maintain a job long enough to keep an apartment. so they end up jumping from their aunties to random homes. It's honestly scary and i look at her. This 19 year old KID and she's working full time trying to get into college but she can't yet because she doesn't have a real address. Crazy stuff man and so far my sister and i give her rides to work when she misses the bus or knows she can't make the bus in the cold ect. It's intense stuff. We mostly help and try our best to help her maintain a job and not lose it. She is now moving into a small studio near her grandmas for 700 a month. Since they increased the minimum wage she will have about 900 to pay for food and everything her sisters need. Crazy huh? Like to me it's crazy cause at age 22 i was still in college just barely cooking for myself coming home to mommy during winter breaks. This girl is 19 with no parental help and her grandma is in this tiny studio that can't even fit more people. So she is forced to stop college and work and focus on her sisters. There is no doubt in my mind that the 3 of them would be in the streets with shady dudes or family friends if she didn't work so hard to keep that job. she never had a real chance to goto school so she dropped out to survive. It's honestly just crazy. So many people suffer but yeah my family and the next door neighbor helps her. We finally got her food stamp and she lucked out and got that 1400 stimulus check before it was too late 2 months ago. I think about what happens if she loses that and how 3 girls with an old grandma can deal with life with NO help besides shady drugged out people around them who were -ex-family friend. It's so crazy man it will take her a damn year to save up for a crappy car. Like my god some people realllly need help. We have 100s of more around me that i can't help and the system can't help if they have no address lol. ahhhhh where is all this "help money"going? We have freaking 19 year olds with no family with siblings to care for and they can BARELY get ebt for food support. I know too many people in a similar situation where they just need a LITTLE bit more help to help them go from check to check to being able to save for emergencies lol

I love that they balanced restaurant gift cards with gift cards for the grocery store and bed bath & beyond. Really encouraging her to embrace cooking as a hobby, something she can do that is fulfilling and not just a chore. She can buy new kitchen gear and cook as much as she wants for fun, but the restaurant cards make sure she doesn't have to feel obligated to cook all the time. Very cool way to encourage her hobby.

A young girl taking on adult responsibilities is tough. These are all great gifts and something the family will use. It would have been awesome to also see her receive a gift that she could enjoy as a kid though so she could put aside adult responsibilities for a bit and just be a teen (such as a game system/games). Thanks for such a touching story, Nate.

I took care of my siblings for a few years around 11 years old. Bc I was making food for my other siblings. Changing diapers, and making bottles I neglected myself and got super skinny and physically COULD NOT eat. Anything I would eat, I would immediately throw up bc of how long I went malnourishing myself. Losing a parent I’m sure is the hardest thing a child can go through, hopefully they can all heal from the pain, love each other and grow up to be healthy awesome people. God bless

She got a job at McDonald's and is trying to get an apartment for her and her siblings and dog to live, she's been through too much and has been raped and sexualy assaulted and struggles with addiction. I'm struggling to keep my family and pets and almost dropped all my classes but one and can't afford to leave work to start my career so I can't do much to help her at all and it sucks. To be a secret Santa it takes a good paying job to afford giving someone else something they need when they're not able to afford buying it or whenever they are struggling with a personal matter such as a death of a family member.
These days people aren't able to randomly go and spend their money on another person in their community because the cost of living is getting expensive.
