Mafia 1, I miss how powerful the handguns were in that game and how "mafia" the experience was from plot to gameplay. It lacked replayability and overall content but the right feel and gameplay were all there. It was simpler than its contemporary, GTA 3, but still held up as being poetic and beautifully driven. The mafia game I remembered was tense and tight. Deserves a remake really with HD presentation/graphics and helluva lot more content.

Although I find story important, I'm afraid this might still feel like a stripped down GTA game. I get that they're purposely avoiding GTA mechanics in favour of more low-key gameplay. This is a different game, but this is also a full priced game. Story can take a game so far. In return, I'd want more of an emphasis put towards immersion. Otherwise, I can well imagine the game feeling empty. In particular, I'd want contextual NPC reactions, a dynamic weather system, many apparel options, greater world interactivity, and other little things that make the world come alive. As trivial as it sounds, one of my most memorable experiences from Red Dead Redemption was sitting on the train while taking in the beautifully crafted world. I could listen to NPCs talk as I saw other NPCs carrying out their lives on the land, all while the sun set in the background. If I'm not given a plethora of open world gameplay, I want enough immersion from this game to satisfy a full play through.

I'm disliking all the modern and unrealistic perks and abilities. You call enforcers, they're there within a second, you got a wire and apparently a phone (in 1968, not unless it's a massive brick) etc. All this stuff doesn't belong to this game. The previous 2 kept it simple and it worked. Improve that formula but don't make it into an Ubi game.

Mobs and Mafia are two different things. The Sicilian Mafia is the original mafia/organized crime syndicate. It is where the very word "mafia" was derived from. The organized crime gangs that popped up later on, such as the Yakuza and the Russian mob, were merely copy cats -- the law enforcement at the time dubbing the large crime organizations as "mafia" due to the fact of their resemblance to the Sicilian Mafia. Mafia is Sicilian/Italian, "everything else is just a toy." I can't believe I just quoted Small Soldiers.

Modern organized crime was and always been century old, in every way, if its there was a way to gain money easily, there would be an organized crime syndycate, the Sicilians werent the first, and they weren't considered "Mafia" either, they were, at least in the beginning, poor people that rebelled against the italian goverment over their force annextation in Italy.
The music they chose for the ingame scenarios sets such a great tone for the game. Even while sneaking around in the bushes at night. Probably one of my favorite aspects of the game right now, and it looks great.
Think he's referring to being able to call in reinforcements from a quick menu system. Instead of running across town to the nearest payphone. Idk, you cant make a game completely realistic or itll be boring as all hell.
There are so many things about this game that seem out of place. First off the story that has little to do with the mafia itself. It is just a generic revenge plot that could be dropped into any action story and like many have said, it is almost exactly like the Punsher's origin story. Unlike the others that took a more subtle approach to the action albeit it still fast paced, this seems to be far more over the top in poor taste in terms of catering to their fan base. The immediate help for reinforcements, sabotage etc. by phone (which wouldn't have existed at the time), the very muscular build of the main character (hardly anyone worked out at the time), the eagle vision and the dukes of hazard style default muscle car all put the game in a far more generic shoot em up style cover based title that is geared towards mindless fun rather than an engaging story with balanced action and that is only what they have shown, god knows what other little gold covered turds will come as surprises. Then there is the very controversial main character and the social issues surrounding him. They just had to make him black and unnecessarily shoehorn him into the game that should have little to nothing to do with him. Mafia 1 and 2 never presented itself as action first, plot second. It had enough action sequences to quench your thirst and keep you interested but its heart lied in the terrific story and atmosphere. As always I hope this game will be successful as the developers have put a lot of time and energy into every piece but I have a very strong feeling that this title will make a decent gross in the initial release but will then fall off and be forgotten about only leaving a stain on the Mafia series and possibly ending it. I was hoping for a Mafia game and they gave us The Punisher Warzone or Just Cause 4. I guess all the fans that were hoping for another Mafia styled game will either have to wait another 5 years for the next installment in hopes they learn from their mistakes or hope for a re-master of The Godfather.

Even if that was true that level of muscle mass wouldn't be sustainable with the lifestyle of the soldiers during war time. Lincoln has the body of a bodybuilder.
I love the combat music choices, and the city itself looks pretty authentic. And it seems like there are no lack of guns to get the job done. Looking forward to this game.

Mafia 3, Battlefield 1, Forza Horizon 3, Watch Dogs 2, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 , Scalebound, Deadrising 4, Titanfall 2, Tekken 7, Resident evil 7, We Happy Few. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are some games that I could just name off the top of my head that are releasing in the Fall/Winter time, and they all look excellent. I excluded PS4 and Nintendo games because i do not own one of those systems, but they have some promising games coming to those owners as well. Look, I get it, they release ALL those games before Black Friday and Christmas so they can make the most money, it's a good marketing tactic. But this is another reason why i wish E3 started in the beginning of the year rather in the middle. The developers compete with each other and cram and sell all their games during October and November. I wish they would at least have two or three games available during the summer when high school and college students are on summer break or other people who take the summer off.

Looks more open-ended than the previous Mafia games which is a trend these days so I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed because I was looking forward to another good old fashioned mob thriller to play through. I found the Mafia games to be more linear, atmospheric and character driven as opposed to the open ended, chaotic money-schemes of GTA and sadly for me this footage looks like they've gone towards the latter.

I never really liked Burke but once that music started to play I suddenly felt so much sympathy for him as if I knew Burke like I do Vito. So far the music in this is great!

I'm disliking all the modern and unrealistic perks and abilities. You call enforcers, they're there within a second, you got a wire and apparently a phone (in 1968, not unless it's a massive brick) etc. All this stuff doesn't belong to this game. The previous 2 kept it simple and it worked. Improve that formula but don't make it into an Ubi game.

Modern organized crime was and always been century old, in every way, if its there was a way to gain money easily, there would be an organized crime syndycate, the Sicilians werent the first, and they weren't considered "Mafia" either, they were, at least in the beginning, poor people that rebelled against the italian goverment over their force annextation in Italy.
The music they chose for the ingame scenarios sets such a great tone for the game. Even while sneaking around in the bushes at night. Probably one of my favorite aspects of the game right now, and it looks great.

Think he's referring to being able to call in reinforcements from a quick menu system. Instead of running across town to the nearest payphone. Idk, you cant make a game completely realistic or itll be boring as all hell.
There are so many things about this game that seem out of place. First off the story that has little to do with the mafia itself. It is just a generic revenge plot that could be dropped into any action story and like many have said, it is almost exactly like the Punsher's origin story. Unlike the others that took a more subtle approach to the action albeit it still fast paced, this seems to be far more over the top in poor taste in terms of catering to their fan base. The immediate help for reinforcements, sabotage etc. by phone (which wouldn't have existed at the time), the very muscular build of the main character (hardly anyone worked out at the time), the eagle vision and the dukes of hazard style default muscle car all put the game in a far more generic shoot em up style cover based title that is geared towards mindless fun rather than an engaging story with balanced action and that is only what they have shown, god knows what other little gold covered turds will come as surprises. Then there is the very controversial main character and the social issues surrounding him. They just had to make him black and unnecessarily shoehorn him into the game that should have little to nothing to do with him. Mafia 1 and 2 never presented itself as action first, plot second. It had enough action sequences to quench your thirst and keep you interested but its heart lied in the terrific story and atmosphere. As always I hope this game will be successful as the developers have put a lot of time and energy into every piece but I have a very strong feeling that this title will make a decent gross in the initial release but will then fall off and be forgotten about only leaving a stain on the Mafia series and possibly ending it. I was hoping for a Mafia game and they gave us The Punisher Warzone or Just Cause 4. I guess all the fans that were hoping for another Mafia styled game will either have to wait another 5 years for the next installment in hopes they learn from their mistakes or hope for a re-master of The Godfather.

Aksel Stechmann Physical training yes, harsh physical training, no. Not only that, the training was not geared for muscle growth, as much as it was for endurance and overall physical health. Even if that was true that level of muscle mass wouldn't be sustainable with the lifestyle of the soldiers during war time. Lincoln has the body of a bodybuilder.

Mafia 3, Battlefield 1, Forza Horizon 3, Watch Dogs 2, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 , Scalebound, Deadrising 4, Titanfall 2, Tekken 7, Resident evil 7, We Happy Few. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are some games that I could just name off the top of my head that are releasing in the Fall/Winter time, and they all look excellent. I excluded PS4 and Nintendo games because i do not own one of those systems, but they have some promising games coming to those owners as well. Look, I get it, they release ALL those games before Black Friday and Christmas so they can make the most money, it's a good marketing tactic. But this is another reason why i wish E3 started in the beginning of the year rather in the middle. The developers compete with each other and cram and sell all their games during October and November. I wish they would at least have two or three games available during the summer when high school and college students are on summer break or other people who take the summer off.
Edit: This is not me complaining but just stating my opinion on the matter. I will definitely be getting mafia 3 , looks fantastic.

Looks more open-ended than the previous Mafia games which is a trend these days so I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed because I was looking forward to another good old fashioned mob thriller to play through. I found the Mafia games to be more linear, atmospheric and character driven as opposed to the open ended, chaotic money-schemes of GTA and sadly for me this footage looks like they've gone towards the latter.

I have my doubts. The first trailer a few months ago looked better than this. If anything, they are already slowly downgrading the game with each trailer so when it hits the market, it will be a Ubisoft-tier game, with shitty graphics in real life but cool game trailers.

Mafia III has the gameplay and the story. Add on top the fact that it has an amazing soundtrack and fantastic atmosphere, I can't think of another game that could realistically come close. That being said, it'll never win GOTY because the series isn't popular enough.
