I was introduced to the Mafia series through Mafia 2, which was my favorite game of 2010, and better than part 3. I haven't played through part 1 yet, and I am looking forward to this more than any game coming out this year. It's the only game that I have pre-ordered this year.
Have no intent of hating the game, but the gun play doesn't look up to date. Partially-destructive environment looks okay, but the way enemies react to bullets reminds me of dummies. Also it seems that in terms of gore, emitting of red cloud after shot gun blast in the head from 2 meters is as far as it gets. In the game where combat is one of the core elements, it was underwhelming, at least for me. On the other hand, city looks assiduously recreated and overall amount of details in the world is striking.
Gunplay is not too bad, looks a little more improved. For some reason, the clunky gameplay of RDR2 feels more appropriate for this type of game. The realism and what not.
I hope some more guns get added at least. Won’t say no to that. Also it seems the period-appropriate Winchester 1897 shotgun from the original has been replaced by a Remington 870... which wouldn’t exist for another 20 or so years after the game is set. It also appears to be copy-pasted from Mafia III, right down to the sounds.
Screenshots look great, but when it comes to gameplay I feel like it's very rushed. The sound design and voice acting seem worse than the original. Wishing the dev team all the best, but I'm not sold and this trailer only proved my doubts.
How is the sound design worse? It’s literally way better than the original. It’s much crisper when it comes to environmental and sound effects from guns etc. not sure what you’re disappointed about.

This looks incredible. The only bad thing about mafia 3 was the repetition. As long as this isn't repetitive it'll be a masterpiece. Also I hope it has races because the driving in 3 was the best in the genre

@Robert Wilson . What you just said doesn't make any sense plus this game doesn't have regenerative health. With greater fidelity , immersion breaking aspects become much more glaring. All I'm saying is we've had games in the past push these aspects with lesser hardware. Even call of duty modern warfare explicitly tells you that certain surfaces can be shot through.
The game looks fantastic but i would prefer more realistic sounds for the guns and reload times. i don't know the game play shown is linear or not but every time a cut scene comes it takes u away from action and slows the pace down, i would prefer no cut scenes in between missions instead make them kinda playable like GTA. while throwing Molotov the player should be more exposed instead of throwing it from cover. small things like this adds to the realism and difficulty instead of just gauging up the damage. Include more Italian conversations and slangs. The game graphics looks slick and car models looks great too.
I sincerely hope they don't pull a Mafia 3 on us with this game as i absolutely hated the repetitive mission designs. All i want is the game in its core to be the same as the original Mafia but with updated visuals, a more lively open world and tighter gameplay.
I hate Hangar 13 for what they did with Mafia 3 and that horrible Mafia 2 remaster for Xbox One and Playstation 4. But I have to admit that this looks very promising.

2:15 here the car explodes literally after four seconds of shooting at it, besides there are a lot of explosions in the frame, if the whole game is like this, it will lose its atmosphere, as it seems to me . and it would be great if you could enable the old interface at will, only without this silly mechanic of picking up weapons from corpses, it's very inconvenient. 2:15 здесь машина взрывается буквально после четырех секунд стрельбы по ней, кроме того, в кадре много взрывов, если вся игра будет такой, она потеряет свою атмосферу, как мне кажется. и было бы здорово, если бы вы могли включить старый интерфейс по своему желанию, только без этой глупой механики подбирательства оружия у трупов, это очень неудобно.

The city looks gorgeous. But as a big lover of the original game, that arcade Rambo mode gunplay makes me sad... And i don't like actor for Poly, not even close to original...

I really liked 3. My biggest complaints about 3 is mostly having to redo a mission even though I already did it without being guided. The other complaint is that it’s not your traditional mafia, but it has Vito so there’s that I guess.

I am sorry, but at that speech that started on 5:35 min. is just a lie. The gameplay doesn't look nearly as anything that is being described. Bullets don't even go trough the wood. Is even hilarious because the guy playing the game, trying to kill that last cop at the end of the showdown, doesn't shoot trough the wood because he knows it was going to look even more phatetic. It looks super generic, just another shooter that looks pretty.
it already looks way better than mafia 3. hopefully the final product wont be as bug ridden as the last game.

As great as it looks, I would be incredibly hesitant to buy this. The Mafia 2 "Remaster" had bugs, and 3 did at launch as well.
You know for such an old game I wonder why it even has bugs when it’s fully finished.

It really hurts that this isn’t the original voice cast. I’ll never forget Tommy’s screams of agony when running a car headlong into a brick wall.
