As a guitar player myself. People really don't realize what a great guitar player Mark is. He is one of the absolute best as you will find trying to play this song the way he does is almost impossible to replicate exactly.
Who is it? Which people? Simply if you like listening to guitars you can't ignore MK. The thing is that for many people if you don't burn your guitar strings you're not a guitarist. Speed before expressiveness.
Hahahaha, he just wants to play. Takes his award, says a few words, almost no smile, Nothing, just wants his guitar and play.. I love him for his music and his personality!
The years go by, don't they? This song, like all of Mark's songs, remained fresh, beautiful and exciting. Like it was played for the first time yesterday. I love Mark! ❤🎶🎸🎤👍🙋♀️
Mark Knopfler, you have a very large audience in my country {Libya🇱🇾} We enjoy you a lot, especially on stage, when you give concerts in the capitals of the world, and when you hold your unique guitar and start playing the solo guitar, we go with you very far into the fantasy world that we can only go to through your playing only. The generation of the 70's and 80's lived with you every big and small thing and grew up listening to your songs and instrumentals that broke the world and reached no end. Greetings giant 🤝👍.
I am a fan of the Irish artist Chris Rea. I think that in our country Libya, not many people know him or have heard of him. He is a very great artist, composer, singer, writer and guitarist. He won the Nobel Prize for slide guitar. He is unlike anyone else. In my opinion, he is the best guitarist I have ever seen. When he holds a guitar in his hands, it speaks and expresses itself. I think he was wronged in the seventies and eighties. He did not get his full due like others, but I classify him as one of the best artists, singers and guitarists, truly, throughout the ages. He has a distinctive and very beautiful voice.
I always love to see the communication between musicians during live shows, often expressed just with a look or a small gesture. Like here at 4:58, where Mark just makes quick eye contact and gives a small nod to the drummer to let him know this is where he wants to go back to the main part.
It's kinda cool, but really good musicians actually rehearse all of that sort of thing to improve the show. I'm sure they appreciate you noticing though!
@@devilsoffspring5519 It depends a lot on the type of music. But in a lot of live music, there are things you can't really rehearse (or it is unreasonable to do so), especially if a bit of improvisation is involved (which almost always is with live performances). That's where communication between musicians on stage comes :) So you don't rehearse everything to play it exactly the same each time down to a single note, but you rehearse how the "blocks" fit together and what the agreed upon "tells" for switching between them are - like guitarist giving a nod to a drummer who then plays a specific fill, which in turn lets the rest of the band know there will be a change on the very next measure.
That fender comes alive with the touch of Mark's fingers on the strings. The emotions attack the heart and mind. How can we remain insensitive to the music as he plays not only the strings but our hearts. Thank you Mark for playing all these years.
The Start of the Song Launches with a typical drum rhythm harmonising slowly to catch up with the Guitar Chords & Mark Knopler Signature Vocals .... Greatest Guitarist I have ever known whose notes on guitar themselves emanate music straight to link with a heavenly feeling
A beautiful song of a Great Brittain guitarplayer and songwriter Mark Knopfler (ex-Dire Straits), who became an concert in Holland (my country i've born). I love this song and I love also the CD "Sailing to Philadelphia" from 2001. On the way to the North of the Netherlands I listen the CD and I fell in sleep and dreaming of beautiful dreams... Love this song!!!
Ok, let's take it like this; He's not sad. That's the way he looks. Look at videos from -79 or -92 for an example, he does not usually smiles when there's no need. And sometimes it happens, his wonderful smile just breaks out. How I love that look! Not in this video tho, but I can give you plenty of videos where he do it. Sometimes it has to do with the songs. This is not a very happy song, or take 'Brothers in arms', he can't stay there laughing during that tune.
Talento assoluto. Questo brano poi è un qualcosa di meraviglioso. Melodia e scorrevolezza. Fa parlare la chitarra 🎸. Uno dei chitarristi migliori al mondo. Nonostante i suoi 72 anni è un grandissimo. Eccezionale.
stratocaster his age with him. yellowed, scratched, scarred, but always the same sound and the same guts. Mark is a genius, there is no history. I bow before his genius.
when I was a child I remember the long drives to our vacation destinations and there was always a dire straits song with my dad and me singing along. walk of life was especially one of the songs thats in my nostalgia list. now I am in my 30s and still listen to this amazing man in 2020:D
Bravo Maestro .... Bravo ... The best version of this song I have seen so far. I have 23 versions of this song, but this is the best Live version by far ... What an amazing extended solo... Wish he would sing the extended version of this song live ... the one with the extra verse... Thank you Dogswede1... May you and your live long and prosper !!
I was on his Concert last Saturday 17. of July 2010, he played this song also, wow wow wow, it was amazing to watch Mark live. I can say to all of us, if possible go there and watch Mark Knopfler llive. He is an hero, he is one of the famoust guitar players and musicans in the world! I love him, i love his voice! A wonderfull man, i hope he can play one time in heaven!
I had a rough time pulling this shit off when I was 22, and that was a LONG time ago. Mark was, what, half a century older? And, I've been a good musician in my life! Mark Knopfler is different from us :)
And the stuff you said about that something may went wrong,, Yeah, that's an idea, but I'm not sure. Of course, you can't buy happiness with money,, I can only speculate, but I think Knopfler is lucky that he had a normal life before he became a 'rock star'. He was like 28 years old when Dire Straits hit it, and he has worked as both a teacher and a journalist and had a really common life as anybody else, and that's what probably kept him from the usual rock life.
the bend at 1:57 is orgasmic, making the geetar cry and sing Nobody but nobody's got Mark Knopflers feel, all his emotions are let out thru the guitar. Long Live the legendary Mark Knopfler

Exatamente! Além de tocar e musicalidade pára ele, ele dá à oportunidade, da banda se soltar com as notas. Gênio.
Maybe my all time favorite or at least in the top 2. Not only his playing, but his song writing. I love him from the bottom of my soul.

There are some who can never be replicated. Mark is certainly one of those.
There's only one person can make a guitar talk, scream, whisper, laugh and weep like this, and that is Mark.
Don’t forget Mr. David Gilmour
