When ''Raiders of the Lost Ark'' (original title) was playing in the cinemas short after its first release, my uncle had already an illegal copy on tape (with German audio, and double subtitles, Dutch & French), and we (the whole family of my father's side) watched it at my grandmom's house. It was one of the greatest movie experiences I've ever had in my life, and it is still one of my all time favorite movies!

I LOVE Indiana Jones - so from what I've heard, when filming the scene where Indiana shoots the guy that is waving the sword around, the scene was originally shot to be a big sword fight. Harrison was sick during filming that scene so they changed it to him just shooting the guy lol

I’ll let others have share all the fun facts about this film. So, what I love about Indiana Jones is that he got the ever living crap kicked outta him ALL the time. He was a smartass who thrived on perseverance and integrity, and a drive to discover solely for the sake of discovering. With a bit of luck and knowledge, he’s a fun character to share an adventure.
    Cheers guys :)

    • @DavidvsFilm

Yeah, I can totally see that already! We both were talking about how we couldn't see anyone else playing this role except him. He's just so good and iconic. The only person we thought of who would be fun would be maybe Bradley Cooper (he's a little older than HF when he first cracked the whip, but faces are more moisturized in Hollywood these days..)

One of the few good things about Covid shutting down everything is that here in Arkansas, most places stayed open, including the movie theaters. But with the lack of movies coming out, every week my theater would play a 1980s classic! So I got to see all three of the Indiana Jones movies (the fourth one doesn’t count), goonies, Jurassic Park, for some reason they only had the Empire strikes back from the Star Wars trilogy, The back to the future of trilogy, a few others that are escaping my memory at the moment, and weirdly the first avengers movie! It was awesome seeing Indiana Jones on the big screen. I only got to see the third one in theaters the first time around. But if you want to have your mind blown about Raiders of the lost Ark, you might want to look up on RUclips with the clip from the big bang theory were they talk about it. I think it’s only around five minutes long, but it will leave you stumped! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s definitely one of my favorites! 💙💙💙

At the last D23 conference in Anaheim, they revealed the new Indy movie. Harrison Ford came out to his theme song and much fan fare. Nice to see you have stumbled upon another iconic trilogy. (Yes, I know what I said.)
The filming in Tunisia (North Africa) was rough to say the least. The temperature many days got over 130°f (50°c)
In addition to the stifling heat, nearly every member of the cast and crew contracted amoebic dysentery from the local food. This prompted Ford to ask if he could just shoot the swordsman, as opposed to a long drawn out fight which would have taken 3 days to shoot. Speilberg opted for the quick humorous approach. Speilberg himself never actually got sick because he brought water and canned food with him from England.
Weird Al Yankovic parodied the opening sequence to this movie, in the opening sequence to his movie UHF.
This movie was originally just titled Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Upon huge success and a sequel, Indiana Jones was later added.
Ok. I've blabbed enough. Have a good day.

"Raiders of the Lost Ark": Turn back the clock to the 1930's and cliffhanger serials. Spielberg wanted to "do James Bond, " but Lucas thought of cliffhanger films. With their second choice leading man cast, Harrison Ford got an academic upgrade to "Dr. Henry Jones, Jr." and another iconic character and franchise. Alfred Molina's first major movie role; amazing that he didn't get Arachnophobia. Karen Allen's Two-Fisted "Marion Ravenwood " is an equal to Indy, unlike "Witless Willy," aka the next Mrs. Spielberg. Wanna play a game?: ruclips.net/video/LZZXJ3zCRDQ/видео.html

When you asked about how they filmed it with the snakes? The cobra was for real. They actually had a piece of glass between Harrison Ford and the snake, and the snake actually struck the glass. They also had a snake wrangler. They had thousands of snakes. Those scenes were filmed in Tunisia. The stunt man who did the dragging scene under the truck was an older stuntman who'd done a lot of westerns, and that was for real. No special effects. And National Treasure was inspired by this movie

The entire premise of this movie is based off of Sat afternoon 'Matinee Serials' that played at the local theater when people my age, (Lucas & Spielberg age) watched when we were children.
The Budget for Raiders of the Lost Ark was $20m which is about $65m in todays dollars. With a gross of over $210m I'd say they got their money back.
There were stunt man on set & they did many of the stunts. Harrison Ford did a lot of his stunts as well & Harrison Ford 'was injured', and production 'was delayed'. They used more stunt men & less HF stunts on the next film... Something about high insurance costs.

Great reaction here to a beloved classic action/adventure film. 🤠👍
Just yesterday I showed my girlfriend 'Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom' (1984) first (and later today I'll be showing her 'Radiers') which she has never seen any of the Indy Jones films before...I showed her Temple Of Doom first because it is actually a prequel (taking place a year before Raiders begins) and because she still had a little leftover scary movie season/Halloween vibes & Temple Of Doom (due to the subject matter & title) was a way to ease/bridge her from creepy movies into more action/adventure films (if that makes any sense) 😮...
Movie trivia fun fact - At one time Tom Selleck was selected to be Indiana Jones (there is even a screen test of him as Indy on RUclips) however at the time Tom recently signed a contract with the TV series Magnum P.I. and the producers of that show would not allow Tom the necessary time off from the TV shooting schedule to be able to do Raiders...so Harrison Ford ended up getting the role (and the rest is history). 😉✌️

The Hebrew bible says Shishak (possibly Ramases II with a pun on the Hebrew word for “attacker”) plundered Jerusalem. Presumably the Ark was taken. That’s the last point recorded history has of the Ark. Also, I like to think the spirits at the climax are the Shekhinah, which is in Kabbalah. This word is a feminine form of shakhan, which means “dwell”. The Hebrew bible quotes YHVH as saying the Israelites are to construct the Ark so that he may dwell with them. In Kabbalah, the shekhinah is the manifestation of divine power. It’s expressed with feminine allusion.
