When you said SAO's villain had no motive, I literally had an instinct to jump in and go "No, he-" and then tell you SAO *ABRIDGED'S* villain's motive. Guess that says more about SAO Abridged than anything else
SAO abridged really fixed the problems of the original anime. The only problem I have with it is that it kinda has to be a parady and not just a flat rework of SAO, which it really feels like at times
I feel like this is a really major impact for me too, finally watching all of SAO Abridged myself. :D Now I am every month looking forward to seeing if they will make something actually worth watching out of Alfeim arc. :D My deepest respect and kudos to Something Witty Entertainment.
He had his motivations, the anime just pushed the story too fast to get any real character work in. They should have slowed it down and got out of Ainkrad early in season 3. Season 4 should have been the first mention of elfworld with every character from SAO being fully fleshed out as characters, leaving room for new characters in the new setting. SAO anime is the bullet points of the actual story, all of the growth is chopped out, villain included. The PKers could have been an entire arch within the first 3 seasons that has lasting effects to season 5 (GGO).
"Group of girls from her school" i think it's important that those girls were an entire school level below her. The main character was a college student with her new friends being highschoolers. She never sought to be their friend either, instead she was a passing stranger and was jealous of their cuteness while they were jealous of her model like demeanor. They only become friends through the game and that's just as good as being friends through school or work or club or whatever and I think that distinction it's a very important for the series point.
And they interact on that initial basis with believable behavior. Karen and the group have a friendly rivalry and respect as skilled fellow gamers. Any gamer can attest how much we enjoy beating our friends at a game, simply for the fun of it. But when that friendship was forged by that game, it has a deep meaning (and they made that friendship at the end of SJ1 with that crazy fight one just has to respect as opponents).
@@DeertickDanielit's better! This says the "connections made in virtual worlds are as real as ones made in the real world" better than the entirety of SAO!!
Yep, the novels aren't any better. But I will mention that the over sexualisation of Sinon in SAO 2 was super tasteless, so much so that I just dropped it.
@@jeffreyschwanke2310 I really don't give a shit about shitty light novels? 110% of light novels are shounen trash anyways. Even if I were to read LNs I wouldn't read anything of lower quality than Violet Evergarden or Kino no Tabi. One of my favorite animes is Railguns. That show works really well precisely because it's an anime. I know it'd be super dull and boring in novel format, which is why I'm never gonna bother reading the LN of that. Even in manga form it loses most of it's charm and appeal. My favorite book is Dune. I have standards when it comes to written fiction. And I have a buddy who showed me just how god fucking awful the writing for SAO is in general. So, no thank you.
Are you sure? To me it sounds like he's the yandere who's deredere for SAOs split personality. But instead of just shanking SAO he's into S/M where he's the S.
Kartikey Sharma SAO is not a harem anime. P.S Geoff is a terrible critic, Reki Kawahara is a great writer. Geoff completely misses everything when it comes to this series. Plenty if people on RUclips have proven that. Tbh, I wish Geoff would stop making these awful videos. He's wrong, and his fanbase somehow thinks this idiot Geoff is right about this series.
As a 175cm woman I can say that I identify with the protagonist of GGO Alternative. Still waiting for the Isekai Truck to hit me and make me reborn as a pint-sized moe ball in a fantasy world.
It would be pretty uncomfortable to go from 5'6 or whatever the character seems to be portrayed as, down to 4' tall in a game. Sure, you could adjust to it with time, but I don't think people would typically choose to do it, and especially not new players. You can get a taste of how that feels with modern VR games already.
He literally wrote GGO SJ because he want to write a story about guns(again,like kino no tabi isn't enough) but this time he want it to be less serious and let characters die with smaller consequences,so he just asked the SAO author to borrow the source materiel(at least that's what he said)
@@orbitalpotato9940 Not really, cuz of the way the stock is set up, the magazine being on top, etc. etc. Means it's a lot more accurate even with a full auto cuz you're more or less embracing the whole damn gun :p
10:15 "The story would instantly be stronger if he had any motivation at all" *"Suggestion : SAO abridged Episode 11" appears* That is way more subtle than it had to be, sir.
@@TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS Omfg I’m so sorry to tell you this but I misread “food” as “foot” and had to do a mf double-take and look back to make sure I read that correctly. Scared me for a second there-
There are legitimately fanfiction writers who write Kawahara's story better than he himself does. Look up "Fairy Dance of Death," a long-ass story that combines the game world of Alfheim Online with the concept of the Aincrad arc. It's good. - Lewis
Okay, I do have one question: Why do all these Seed games have no personalized customization of characters? Seriously, it's like one of the primary things players look forward to in an RPG, is the ability to make your own unique character.
i played the SAO fatal bullet game and that's the best thing about that game. seriously, first anime game that i was able to make an anime version of me that's accurate-looking. pretty sure i show that avatar to anyone who knows me and they will recognize it as me.
Oooooor people hate a badly written plot, and no matter how much of the plot you can ignore going forward, you can't ignore Kirito because he's the driving force of everything...?
I literally had to take a moment to remember that his name wasn't actually Tiffany haha. SAO abridged' version of his character left a greater impact on me than the original character
My friend sat me down and made me watch this whole show because she knows I hate SAO, but she said "It's SAO, but good." So I was intrigued and watched it, and you know what? She was right. It was genuinely good.
@@googleuser9383 Wow, Respect a person's opinion. My brother and I have the same opinion, We absolutely disliked SAO aside from the fights and The interesting game mechanics. Kirito was the main reason I disliked the anime. He was way too Overpowered with little to no strategies up his sleeve. He also had a harem, in which his cousin/sister fell in love with him. My brother thought it was weird. So after AGGO came out, it was obvious we would like it more. The fights were good, It had plot. There was no harem. it has a lot of good things, the character design. And believe me, I've had my fair share of good anime. Wolfgod 64 Well the reason why I prefer a motorcycle over a car is because the chances of me dying on a motorcycle is very high. So yeah I got your point. I mean "your life feels so important when you are near death's door."
I meant for game design specifically. As in games like Dark Souls or Fire Emblem have dying as part of the experience and perma-death of soldiers respectively. It adds tension and makes decisions more meaningful with something on the line. Obviously not every game needs to follow this, but the threat of death in game can be an enjoyable aspect.
This reminded me of how horrible they went with the motivation (Or lack of) Kayaba Akihito had for creating for SAO. I literally came up with an actual motivation that (While has flaws) could still pass as an acceptable if crazy motivation for creating the equally crazy death game. (plz note, I made this on the spot, so its a fixer-upper) ~~~~~Akihiko Kayaba, having experience the horror humanity have committed on one another. He wants to really see if it's possible to make a society of humans that, united by a common goal, will work together as a functional society to achieve it(Again this has major flaws). He grabs a small but proficient number of people (10,000), puts them in life or death situation where the only way to get back home is to scale all 100 floors of Aincrad. He knows that MMORPGs themselves are often cause for working together to achieve a goal. So by putting them in a situation where it is literally fight, die, or forever live in a game. In theory, all 10,000 people would want to fight and work together to get out of the literal death game. But this is where it gets bumpy. A couple of months in and they still haven't cleared the 1st floor and 2,000 people already died horribly. Already a sign that the plan is not gonna work. But when the floor is finally cleared one player stands above the rest, Kirito. Kayaba takes this as a sign that his plan is finally working and that Kirito will be the figurehead in which all the other players will unite under, in order to clear SAO. But heres the thing, he's an asshole loner that people persecute for being a beta tester, (The beta testers were actually also there to possibly become what Kayaba sought in Kirito) and shun him for being a cheater, to Kayabas chagrin. Eventually it gets to the point that although the people are just barely scraping by and clearing the bare minimum of the floors, so he enters SAO as Heathcliff to be that figurehead that he wanted Kirito to be. He creates the largest and most powerful guild, recruits the top players he can find, (Kirito will also have been offered a spot but he refused) and uses this to be the greatest and most powerful united force in all Aincrad. This also happens to be flawed as Kuradeel, a laughing coffin member, was easily able to infiltrate their ranks and almost successfully took out Kirito, but also ended up killing Godfree (The tool). This is also why he makes a raid on Laughing Coffin, not just because there murdering other players but their a great threat to what is meant to be his master plan. Eventually he is discovered by Kirito, not because of that super speed bs the original show had, but because Heathcliff was too perfect a leader. He showed up out of nowhere with an absolutely flawless fighting technique and sword skills and somehow knows how to perfectly counter and prepare for every single boss. He knows each new boss's unseen abilities and somehow can prepare his men to deal with it almost instantly, almost as if HE DESIGNED THEM HIMSELF. No one had ever even heard of this guy and he somehow unites the top players into his guild and then they somehow start clearing floor after floor with ease. 2 months had passed without him and they had barely cleared the 1st floor, but after he showed up they were able to get to floor 74 within 2 years. A little clue to Kirito shows up is that Heathcliff's menu (Something he makes sure to almost never use around other players) is strangely larger and possesses more features, this is just a small factor that pops up when Kirito walks in on him in another room. One little thing happened that finally revealed Heathcliff. (The boss will be altered for this part) When the boss's slashes hit a player, they instakill on most players, if it hits them and they don't die, it simply doesn't kill them. However if the attack its main attack completely misses HAVE to tank the attack, or be fast enough to get out of the way. (You notice a lot of bosses have a stunning lack of diversity in attacks). When they're fighting the boss, Heathcliff is preparing to block it's attack, but one of his subordinates bravely (& Stupidely) tackles him out of the attack's way, thinking he had saved his commander. But the thing here is, when the mine is placed down, it activates the powerful slash, killing the subordinate, but not Heathcliff, as his avatar is an immortal object. Kirito sees this and doesn't thing much of it until after the battle, where he sprints off and stabs him to see if it will work again and test his theory, he's right.~~~~~ Well that's how I would take it. But let me know what you think. Even though it's flawed put some real elbow grease into this.
RagyRaptor979 interestingly, alicization cleared this up. It probably wasn’t the intention from the very beginning of sao but nonetheless it tied things together a lot better imo
@@Adrian-bk5qy You are right, Kawahara just pulled it out of his ass when making the novels. He just makes it up as he goes along, and although he finally made a reason, it is still bad writing.
TyphoonZebra I can understand that if you don't look past the surface level of SAO's writing, you can completely miss the fact that the SAO series is a subtle masterpiece. Judge SAO on its own merits fairly, and make sure to understand the series as best as you can. Comparing it to conventional anime (all the way down to the writing) is a huge problem, and it will make your analysis (if you know how to analyze something) too biased, and conventional anime writing is usually mediocre or bad anyways. SAO isn't a conventional show. Critics and anime fans should start treating SAO as a non-conventional series.
Something I love about this spinoff is how it actually represents gamers in shooters pretty well you got your sweats the lmg spammers the players who think there good but are not and the casuals
"Akihiko would be way better if he had any motivation." "Akihiko: I wanted to create a world of my design" "Akihiko: Akihiko: My steel castle floating in the sky, I don't know how old I was when I became obsessed with it I wanted to leave the earth, to fly to that castle, I wanted that more than anything else. As long as I could remember, you know what Kirito? I want to believe it's still out there, that somewhere, in some other world, my castle is standing taller than ever." Yeah... sure he had no motivation whatsoever... human beings contradict themselves in speech all of time (prime example, me, I have a terrible habit of saying no clue, and then almost immediately after giving the answer.)
There's a reason why he killed 3,000 people. He created SAO as a new reality, a reality he can control (as a god). Thinking further, Akihiko didn't create SAO as a game but a new reality and it's presumed even if his new reality is virtual, it doesn't mean death is not logical. In other words; In Kayaba's mind, a game over in the new reality of SAO shouldn’t be any different from a death in the real world.
Yeah, lets be honest SAO's catch is the solid animation, music, and theme. If it had, say, Black Clover quality animation, it wouldn't have been half as popular as it is/was.
Even SAO Abriged is miles better than the original. Its strange. In SAO Abriged is Kirito a complete Ashole but i find him more Sympethatic than his original Counterpart.
if i choose to watch this between and other SAO's pathetic shows between these two i rather choose this one but still i dont want to waste my time on crap too but *i gave credit tho this still is more acceptable than garbage on far as i concerned :)*
Fact: As I was watching SAO Alternative: GGO, I had mistakenly thought it was by the same writer as SAO. I thought "Wow, he really improved his writing a lot, I'm impressed." Now, thanks to this video, I discovered I was wrong. It was written by a different person.
Me and you: "Oh wow, look at this, Karahawa learned how to write his way out of a paper bag. MB an intellectual: "This was written by that one guy with guns in all his stories" Me and you: "Damn, I really believed for a minute."
Thursday Violist yes and no. The reason I say that is that even though Keiichi Sigsawa wrote SAO Alternative, Reki Kawahara still supervises and approves the story before it goes out, so he’s still involved in the creative process. Something I’ve noticed is that with anime adaptations we tend to place all the blame on the original source material writer and not really the person who did the series composition since in most cases the original creator has almost no input on the anime adaption. To me a series composer is just as if not even more important than the director because even if a project gets a really good director or writer, if they’re partnered up with a bad director or writer they’d obviously cancel out each other out. SAO Alternative is doing so well because not only did it have a good foundation (the original light novel) but it also got a director and series composer (apparently the same guy who did the original Trigun anime adaptation series composition back in the day) who understands how to translate book to animation well. Am I a fan of SAO? Yes I am but I’ll gladly admit when it’s flawed both book and anime, but I’ll acknowledge too when a writer improves such as how Kawahara improved with Alicization, Ordinal Scale, and now the Progressive series (which apparently exists since he went back and realized he could change things for the better and still work it in with the current stories expanding upon things that did work and retconning to an extent things that didn’t. Now if only he could retcon the Fairy Dance Arc). I’d imagine if they adapted Progressive with the right series composer like maybe Jukki Hanada (Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0, A Place Further than the Universe, K-On, Nichijou, No Game No Life, etc.) since Tomohiko Ito isn’t a bad director per say (Silver Spoon, Ordinal Scale, Erased, and him being an assistant director on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars are proof that he can be a good director) it’d probably turn out great. To me problem with SAO (anime) never stemmed from directing but from a bad series composition since while yes the books aren’t perfect they at least explain things much better than the anime like how in Ordinal Scale we see Kirito struggle, grind and practice to get better like in the books unlike how the first season cuts that out making Kirito come off as god tier player without even trying. Sry for the essay long comment
The SAO animes just moved WAY too fast, the first 10 floors could have been a whole season. Then they could have sped up as the floors got smaller, moving to 50 in season 2, and then exiting the game early in season 3. Season 4 would be elfworld and then season 5 GGO. There was no reason to redline the pace so that no one understands what is going on other than bullet points. The PKers should have been a 3 season long side arch that would get left behind in season 4 and then would be recalled in season 5 with GGO and death gun. It would have been better to slow burn this series.
After I read some of the manga, I get what you said. I've never thought that before! And I ompletely agree with the 3 seasons thing. At least, if they weren't going to make 3 seasons of aincrad arc, they could at least spend the hole FIRST season on this arc..
@@CErra310 yeah it's true, he is doing a reboot, although i doubt it will ever be finished. He's not very young anymore, and it's only released at a rate of 1 volume a year, and there's 75 floors to cover
A few years back I tought SAO was so good. Then I grew up and realize... It wasn't really as good as I tought it was With age come wisdom... and rank ~Commander Shepard
Operator Rain The way I see it(Both with SAO and SAO2) is that it was good the first arc then fell completely flat after that with the second arc. SAO2's First arc is actually the best when putting them together. Imo
People grow out of things they liked when they were younger. I realize a lot of anime I liked was shit, but hey, it got me to better things and I enjoyed them at the time, so even while they were not really that incredible as I percieved them at the time, they were part of my path and gave me joy. No shame
Just finished the anime! MY GOD IS IT GOOD It's just like what you said in the thumbnail. This is what SAO is supposed to be. The writing doesn't suck. The characters are realistic, they also act like real gamers. They pull off SAO's theme better, without pulling any of that death game stuff(if you don't count the thing from the second half, but hey, no spoilers). It's just a better show all around. AND I LOVE IT
Took me a solid few seconds to remember that Tiffany is not that character's actual name. Good on SAOA for being more memorable than the source material.
Yeah, after that Ugandan knuckles meme VR chat blew up in popularity (That and the fact that you can play it without VR now). I remember when I first got my VR headset that game was lucky to have 200 concurrent players online.
I love GGO, but I didn't like SAO at all, I'm not 6 ft tall Japanese girl with self image issues, but I'm 6,1 ft tall Finnish Girl with self image issues,who uses games to escape reality, so I can relate a little bit? I've been a gun nerd wayyy before GGO, so that anime was perfect for me 👌🏻
What do you mean Kayaba didn't have a motivation!? He had a damn good one! He got stressed, lost sleep, and fell into a hole of despair and bad decisions after Bethesda insisted he ship the game on time. His efforts as Heathcliff are his way of fixing the giant bloody mess his lethally-glitchy game caused while hiding his identity for obvious reasons. Are we even watching the same show?
Feeling uncomfortable about being tall IRL and retreating to a fantasy world where you can be cute and tiny? Yeah, I can absolutely identify with that.
it's the idea that you don't like your features in real life so you go to a fantasy world to become something you could never be. anybody can identify with that, unless you're a narcissist.
And this concept wouldn't be that bad. It would be actually good if there were any specific explanations and didn't ruin the character development of his...or adding the harem thing!
I relate to hating being tall (6’ 4”), but for a different reason: I keep hitting my head on everything!!! Like Jesus Christ! During a Scouts Camping Trip, I hit my head 4 times on the entrance to the latrine, 5 times on the rafters of the rifle range, 2 times on the entrance to the mess hall, 3 times on the frame of my tent, and 1 time on the trunk of my scoutmaster’s car!
I am 6'2 and I served on an aircraft carrier for 4 years. I was just short enough to comfortably walk around the ship without having to duck very much. After 2 years of this my ship went through a maintenance period that required us to always wear a hard hat. Becoming 2 inches taller for a month also caused me to bump into everything and it was a nightmare.
Im only happy sao exists becuase it led to the abridged series and this spin off is only icing to the cake the lovely folks who worked on the abridged show. Long live better writers making great stuff outta great concepts that turn into shit when wasted.
I once thought about rewriting SAO, but doubted that I could do something as good as an actual series. Then I remembered how shitty SAO's writing actually is, and the fact that any half-assed fanfic made by _anyone_ would be comically better than the trainwreck it already is.
Technically, SAO was never going to exist, but Reki decided, why not send this other story I wrote in with the Accel World story, and boom, here's Sword Art Online. So it was just technically a little decision that made Sword Art Online. Also, the train wreck of an anime is complimentary of A-1 who wanted to make Kirito edgy to the point of hating him.
Mini Zem Careful, the 1% comedy recursion barrier is stretched thin as it is. No one knows what's beyond the 1% barrier. It is known simply as Geoffs;Gate
I only like SAO because when I see it, it makes me imagine much better and more interesting stories, prompting me to get back into a writing mood. So I usually watch it when I'm dealing with writer's block or whatever. It's just garbage that I use as more of a tool than entertainment.
Macaw garbage has no use therefore it’s useless, thus the name garbage. Yet, here you are finding use in this so called “garbage”. Doesn’t that mean it’s not really garbage?
"tall girl" but with guns loll but yeah i liked this anime. easy fix for the ending: make the crazy gurl a lil less crazy and instead actually flesh her out and give more backstory to her so we actually care bout her.
Easiest fix would have just been for M to have been over exaggerating the whole time because he's kind of a humorless freak. Just have Pitohui at the end teasing him about how he takes all her crazy jokes too seriously.
Scyntax, it's an sao parody on RUclips by Something Witty Entertainment. Just search sao abridged, it should pop up. I highly recommend it, it's hilarious!
Empowered women? Clothes that serve as clothes? Characters that are characters instead of figurines to be held and obtained? My only response is words from a wiseman. "They're giiiiirls. If they're not doing gay things to each other, _THEN WHAT ARE THEY GOOD FOR?!_ " ~ Demolition_D
This *is* Studio 3Hz. They do that in their original stuff. They also do the empowered women, clothes that serve as clothes, and characters that are characters, but Flip Flappers is the gayest shit of all time, and Princess Principal is also pretty fucking gay
[RS] HJfod you’re not missing much episode 6 was literally a recap episode for stuff that was already recapped as it was happening (I wish I was making that up)
Doctor Adventure Actually she isn’t a god, and I just like a bunch of other people don’t watch it for that, if you seen this video you should know why people watched. Action is just one of the reasons.
My opinion on Sao: love animation, kirito's fights, and other fights. Don't like kirito's harem and plot armor. Opinion on Ggo: loved most of it the action, comedy, and story. Do miss duel sword fighter.
i mean they probably should have explained why less people used the swords by the time of alternative, but i guess its fair, you need broken agility to use the swords effectively
No you're not allowed to like duel sword fighters. If a male Character used swords, they have to be tanky, more built than a bodybuilder overdosing on steroids, and with a face so hideous and evil that even ganondorf from BotW 2 cries in his sleep from looking at it
Came back to this video after binging GGO on Netflix this past weekend, and I've got to agree with most of your points here. It's a MUCH better and effectively executed story than the original, as much as I personally enjoyed Season 2, and it uses my favorite setting in GGO to boot! Hopefully they make more of the anime, since I believe the Light Novels are still being written? All four of the main characters, and the Amazon brigade are great! As far as not killing off anyone of significance, I'd argue they did that with Yuuki, even if she only came and went with the single arc. I also enjoyed the Tournament of Power, even though I understand why you're throwing a little shade at Dragon Ball Super. Cheers Jeff!
Reki Kawahara himself admitted he wasn't a good writer when he wrote SAO. That's presumably why he wrote SAO Progressive. If I remember correctly he said he didn't feel like he was actually a good writer until he started writing the Alicization Light Novels. Hence why those Light Novels are so much different from the Web Novel, compared to everything before then.
Kuro Neko I really hope that the Progressive Series gets made into an anime, as that would hopefully fix a lot of the issues that people had with the anime.
Yeah that when you compare volume 1 aincrad arc to the progressive volumes, volume 1 aincrad arc will look like a summary of whole aincrad arc. As Progressive takes a floor by floor approach, we certainly got the proper development without the skipping unlike the volume 1 aincrad arc. I still doubt A1 Pictures to do justice.
Honestly, I’m glad he decided to heed people’s words and improve rather than shield himself from criticism. It just goes to show: Just because your characters are shit, doesn’t mean you’re a shit character.
"How can this person help in saying in what I want this story to say" And now I realize part of what helps me enjoy certain series so much and stick with them. Even the random characters _mean something_ and seem _cohesive_
i saw it on netflix one day and went in thinking "great, another season of SAO, k lets watch this cringe so i can get the memes later" and then came out SHOCKED THAT IT WASN'T EXACTLY SAO AND IT WAS OK. Not great, but not SAO bad 😂 Im excited to see more
So it's in Netflix. Cool just got the Videogame and though it's riddled with the mainline SAO cast I liked the actual GGO world enough to start looking into the Anime adaptation
SAO alternative is pretty damn good so far. Though I think it's annoying people are already jumping in the hate train on it because of two things. One, it's name, ate obvious. Two because the main character has some plot armor. Even though almost every main character str had that and it's no where near as bad as kirito's. I just think people shouldn't jump the gun so fast. No pun intended 😂
She doesn't have plot armor, she stumbled into a broken build. They actually wrote that she put all her stats into AGI to be pink sonic because she had no idea how to do RPG leveling, add in the highest possible speed of average person, but transposed onto a body that's half the size and you end up with something hard to hit. There's more thought put into why LLENN gotta go fast than why Asuna is a world class fencer
You know I was thinking to myself that maybe Reki Kawahara would see how well SAO Alternative: GGO was doing and think "Wow yeah, I could learn from this" but instead I get this disappointing feeling that he'll see it and go "Wow... Karen's cute. Let's add her to Kirito's harem"...
I will give him hell if he does that, on the flip side, LLENN is in Fatal Bullet, and I think only the avatar talks to her and other GGO Alternative characters
That's against the existing narrative by a long shot, which even someone who disliked the series would know, I feel you are being highly inflammatory with no basis that it would ever come to pass.
SAO: Alternative and the main SAO stories are slated to be two separate stories that don't really crossover. Keep in mind that Reki Kawahara was the one who gave the go ahead for SAO: Alternative, and that he has worked with Keiichi Sigsawa before when writing the Phantom Bullet arc for SAO. Besides, the story for SAO: Alternative was penned 4 years ago when the LN first released (yes, SAO: Alternative is not anime original), and during that time Kawahara mostly wrote SAO: Progressive IIRC.

Hey Mother's Basement, you should also check out SAO Progressive, it's SAO's story and legitimatively written well, it's a manga spinoff, and within 34 chapters, they've only gone from floor 1 to about floor 29. Plenty good worldbuilding and legitimate Kirasuna relationship buildup.
@@vcom741 before I despised SAO, I was actually an avid fan of it when it came out, I waited for the episodes and everything the first time cause it looked interesting. Then half way through season 1, it went downhill but I still watched it and gave it a chance. Then halfway through season 2, after they defeated the creepy guy, it again went downhill and I just couldn't watch anymore. I'm now watching GGO, and I hope it doesn't disappoint me like SAO did.
"If we're really lucky, maybe we'll see Reki Kawahara pick up some pointers from the guy who's writing his story better than he is." Gonna need a Senzu for that one...
Too many hate here.. But yea, maybe the anime isn't as good as the source material.. But I'm looking forward to Alicization arc adaptation, since it's the best arc of this series imo.. It's also longer than the previous arcs combined.. I'm looking forward to it..
It’s pretty stale. The show started off great but keeps jumping over the actually interesting stuff and dropping exposition bombs in the most boring way possible
You act like character development is some sort of choice someone makes. “I’m going to develop my character now” that’s not how character development works, you don’t have to put away time in order to develop yourself as a person. Everybody goes through character development in their lives, it’s a natural progression just like evolution. You don’t decide to evolve, it’s a gradual and natural change over time. The difference in shows is that the writer has to make it feel natural where as in real life, you aren’t being written. In this aspect SAO fails.
From reading the novels I was under the impression Kiyama's motivation was that he wanted to make the world he imagined into something real... and to achieve that there had to be that threat of real death. Without that threat the emotions, experiences and motivations would be too shallow. Not to say that it was ever particularly well explained in the anime or earlier novels.
Slayyin & Mushlay it's because Kirito was a flat, personality-less character who had a girlfriend, and let her devolve into a common harem character. He was like an isekai MC with a wish fulfillment harem with no clear storyline.
As someone who find more mature looking anime charcters attractive, Karen is pretty (someone I look straight at is awesome and I love a girl with nice legs)
Hey don't worry about it, my best friend's waifus always (and I mean always) end up being dead, and then a battleship. In that order. Without fail. So yeah, don't be afraid to like what you like.
TatlTails39 Kirito:why did you trap thousands of people in a life or death situation The villain:lols I forgot

@@DarkHopeAssassin the most depressing thing about SAO abridged is that at present pace it will take half a century to finish the series.

SAO had a lot of potential. Too bad they condensed 2 years of story into like 15 episodes, and then Deus ex machina'd the ending.
From what I hear, the light novels are even WORSE
Yep, the novels aren't any better. But I will mention that the over sexualisation of Sinon in SAO 2 was super tasteless, so much so that I just dropped it.

This reminded me of how horrible they went with the motivation (Or lack of) Kayaba Akihito had for creating for SAO. I literally came up with an actual motivation that (While has flaws) could still pass as an acceptable if crazy motivation for creating the equally crazy death game. (plz note, I made this on the spot, so its a fixer-upper)
~~~~~Akihiko Kayaba, having experience the horror humanity have committed on one another. He wants to really see if it's possible to make a society of humans that, united by a common goal, will work together as a functional society to achieve it(Again this has major flaws). He grabs a small but proficient number of people (10,000), puts them in life or death situation where the only way to get back home is to scale all 100 floors of Aincrad.
He knows that MMORPGs themselves are often cause for working together to achieve a goal. So by putting them in a situation where it is literally fight, die, or forever live in a game. In theory, all 10,000 people would want to fight and work together to get out of the literal death game.
But this is where it gets bumpy. A couple of months in and they still haven't cleared the 1st floor and 2,000 people already died horribly. Already a sign that the plan is not gonna work.
But when the floor is finally cleared one player stands above the rest, Kirito. Kayaba takes this as a sign that his plan is finally working and that Kirito will be the figurehead in which all the other players will unite under, in order to clear SAO.
But heres the thing, he's an asshole loner that people persecute for being a beta tester, (The beta testers were actually also there to possibly become what Kayaba sought in Kirito) and shun him for being a cheater, to Kayabas chagrin.
Eventually it gets to the point that although the people are just barely scraping by and clearing the bare minimum of the floors, so he enters SAO as Heathcliff to be that figurehead that he wanted Kirito to be. He creates the largest and most powerful guild, recruits the top players he can find, (Kirito will also have been offered a spot but he refused) and uses this to be the greatest and most powerful united force in all Aincrad. This also happens to be flawed as Kuradeel, a laughing coffin member, was easily able to infiltrate their ranks and almost successfully took out Kirito, but also ended up killing Godfree (The tool).
This is also why he makes a raid on Laughing Coffin, not just because there murdering other players but their a great threat to what is meant to be his master plan.
Eventually he is discovered by Kirito, not because of that super speed bs the original show had, but because Heathcliff was too perfect a leader. He showed up out of nowhere with an absolutely flawless fighting technique and sword skills and somehow knows how to perfectly counter and prepare for every single boss. He knows each new boss's unseen abilities and somehow can prepare his men to deal with it almost instantly, almost as if HE DESIGNED THEM HIMSELF.
No one had ever even heard of this guy and he somehow unites the top players into his guild and then they somehow start clearing floor after floor with ease. 2 months had passed without him and they had barely cleared the 1st floor, but after he showed up they were able to get to floor 74 within 2 years.
A little clue to Kirito shows up is that Heathcliff's menu (Something he makes sure to almost never use around other players) is strangely larger and possesses more features, this is just a small factor that pops up when Kirito walks in on him in another room.
One little thing happened that finally revealed Heathcliff. (The boss will be altered for this part) When the boss's slashes hit a player, they instakill on most players, if it hits them and they don't die, it simply doesn't kill them. However if the attack its main attack completely misses HAVE to tank the attack, or be fast enough to get out of the way. (You notice a lot of bosses have a stunning lack of diversity in attacks).
When they're fighting the boss, Heathcliff is preparing to block it's attack, but one of his subordinates bravely (& Stupidely) tackles him out of the attack's way, thinking he had saved his commander.
But the thing here is, when the mine is placed down, it activates the powerful slash, killing the subordinate, but not Heathcliff, as his avatar is an immortal object. Kirito sees this and doesn't thing much of it until after the battle, where he sprints off and stabs him to see if it will work again and test his theory, he's right.~~~~~
Well that's how I would take it. But let me know what you think. Even though it's flawed put some real elbow grease into this.
I want to use this comment to confirm a quote " Even a random internet person could write a better SAO story"
Yeah... sure he had no motivation whatsoever... human beings contradict themselves in speech all of time (prime example, me, I have a terrible habit of saying no clue, and then almost immediately after giving the answer.)
Scur Reith, that was his motivation for creating SAO in the first place, not trapping thousands of people there and murdering them.
remember that naps are really important
There's a reason why he killed 3,000 people. He created SAO as a new reality, a reality he can control (as a god). Thinking further, Akihiko didn't create SAO as a game but a new reality and it's presumed even if his new reality is virtual, it doesn't mean death is not logical.
In other words; In Kayaba's mind, a game over in the new reality of SAO shouldn’t be any different from a death in the real world.
and a very underrated part of not killing people
Thursday Violist well people say 3rd season of sao the best of Reki Kawa yet. The Sao movie heard was good.
Thursday Violist yes and no. The reason I say that is that even though Keiichi Sigsawa wrote SAO Alternative, Reki Kawahara still supervises and approves the story before it goes out, so he’s still involved in the creative process. Something I’ve noticed is that with anime adaptations we tend to place all the blame on the original source material writer and not really the person who did the series composition since in most cases the original creator has almost no input on the anime adaption. To me a series composer is just as if not even more important than the director because even if a project gets a really good director or writer, if they’re partnered up with a bad director or writer they’d obviously cancel out each other out. SAO Alternative is doing so well because not only did it have a good foundation (the original light novel) but it also got a director and series composer (apparently the same guy who did the original Trigun anime adaptation series composition back in the day) who understands how to translate book to animation well. Am I a fan of SAO? Yes I am but I’ll gladly admit when it’s flawed both book and anime, but I’ll acknowledge too when a writer improves such as how Kawahara improved with Alicization, Ordinal Scale, and now the Progressive series (which apparently exists since he went back and realized he could change things for the better and still work it in with the current stories expanding upon things that did work and retconning to an extent things that didn’t. Now if only he could retcon the Fairy Dance Arc). I’d imagine if they adapted Progressive with the right series composer like maybe Jukki Hanada (Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0, A Place Further than the Universe, K-On, Nichijou, No Game No Life, etc.) since Tomohiko Ito isn’t a bad director per say (Silver Spoon, Ordinal Scale, Erased, and him being an assistant director on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars are proof that he can be a good director) it’d probably turn out great. To me problem with SAO (anime) never stemmed from directing but from a bad series composition since while yes the books aren’t perfect they at least explain things much better than the anime like how in Ordinal Scale we see Kirito struggle, grind and practice to get better like in the books unlike how the first season cuts that out making Kirito come off as god tier player without even trying. The SAO animes just moved WAY too fast, the first 10 floors could have been a whole season. Then they could have sped up as the floors got smaller, moving to 50 in season 2, and then exiting the game early in season 3. Season 4 would be elfworld and then season 5 GGO. There was no reason to redline the pace so that no one understands what is going on other than bullet points.
The PKers should have been a 3 season long side arch that would get left behind in season 4 and then would be recalled in season 5 with GGO and death gun. It would have been better to slow burn this series.
that's why I actually like playing the mobile game, integral factor, more. Gives a lot more meat to the story which makes it more fun and enjoyable.
Operator Rain The way I see it(Both with SAO and SAO2) is that it was good the first arc then fell completely flat after that with the second arc. SAO2's First arc is actually the best when putting them together. Imo
People grow out of things they liked when they were younger. I realize a lot of anime I liked was shit, but hey, it got me to better things and I enjoyed them at the time, so even while they were not really that incredible as I percieved them at the time, they were part of my path and gave me joy. No shame
it was good.. until the end of episode 1
Just finished the anime!
MY GOD IS IT GOOD
It's just like what you said in the thumbnail. This is what SAO is supposed to be. The writing doesn't suck. The characters are realistic, they also act like real gamers. They pull off SAO's theme better, without pulling any of that death game stuff(if you don't count the thing from the second half, but hey, no spoilers). It's just a better show all around. AND I LOVE IT
S....a....o.... It's in its name sword art online ! If it's about guns how df is it supposed to be Sao?! Or supposed to be sao
Ready for season 2
I was shocked when people liked this show I’m a big sap fan and thought that this was one of the worst anime I had ever seen
Shit taste
Ahahahaha, you called him Agil and not Tiffany.
Took me a solid few seconds to remember that Tiffany is not that character's actual name. Good on SAOA for being more memorable than the source material.
I relate to this. I play VR chat because I have social anxiety and I feel like it’s been helping me a bit.
VR chat is like a comment section that evolved into a physical form.
Yeah, after that Ugandan knuckles meme VR chat blew up in popularity (That and the fact that you can play it without VR now). I remember when I first got my VR headset that game was lucky to have 200 concurrent players online.
I love GGO, but I didn't like SAO at all, I'm not 6 ft tall Japanese girl with self image issues, but I'm 6,1 ft tall Finnish Girl with self image issues,who uses games to escape reality, so I can relate a little bit? I've been a gun nerd wayyy before GGO, so that anime was perfect for me 👌🏻
No
SAO Alternative has taught me to never mess with a loli or her gun unless you want to face loli wrath.
Cap'nCinnamonBun SAO Alternative taught me that there can be a waifu who is a thicc, tall college student and LEGAL loli at the same time
That's just common knowledge tbh, lolis are ruthless killing machines
Idk, I learned that from Youjo Senki a while ago
Really? I'd just smash her face in and move on for wearing pink in a fucking forest
Then the Feminists have won.
What do you mean Kayaba didn't have a motivation!? He had a damn good one! He got stressed, lost sleep, and fell into a hole of despair and bad decisions after Bethesda insisted he ship the game on time. His efforts as Heathcliff are his way of fixing the giant bloody mess his lethally-glitchy game caused while hiding his identity for obvious reasons. Are we even watching the same show?
that isn't motivation dumb a*s
Sora08 Someone hasn't seen the abridged series.
fucking Bethesda
And this is why SAO is getting more hate, because the abridged version made it worse
Fixed it. Dumbshit.
Wierdly enough,I *am* a 6 feet tall *Japanese* girl *with a complex regarding my height* .I think I'll give a go to this spin-off
Julia Minoda Tall girls are cute though 🙈
I can't tell if you're serious or not, but that's too ironic to not be funny lol. Enjoy the show.
What I liked about SAO Alternative plain and simple: It Was FUN
Sometimes that's all we need.
he's not even Mary Sue, he's just blank slate, OP character with no personality
You’ve never met him Brainbot Jezebel so how do you know he’s gay? Oh it’s because as long as you have your precious SAO everything is clear to you
kyotheman69. Its been a thing for some time now.
Feeling uncomfortable about being tall IRL and retreating to a fantasy world where you can be cute and tiny? Yeah, I can absolutely identify with that.
Nathan Is a Mouse But how can you be tall? Your a mouse!
I'm kind of a short-ish guy and when I first played TERA I chose the Minotaur/Cat species
it's the idea that you don't like your features in real life so you go to a fantasy world to become something you could never be. anybody can identify with that, unless you're a narcissist.
Nathan Is a Mouse nah I like being a tall dude. I do play as a lot of women in vidya though...
I don't like being tall IRL but I like being tall in video games. I don't know why.
But is P-chan not the most kawaii thing ever?
no because Kawai is a piano company
vesteel happy now?
Yeah, if you are a necrophile.
DMT Strike XD do you know what a necrophile is? Or was that just an extremely ill phrased joke?
Am I the only one who finds the name "P-chan" cringy? It's like the only thing that I dislike in this anime.
Sao was writing a concept
Sao alternative was writing an actual story with characters development
The real SAO ended after the first half of season 1.
Everything after that is Kirito being a government worker trying to save Players.
Finally someone who gets it!
And making more girls fall in love with him, despite having a wife
fr
And this concept wouldn't be that bad. It would be actually good if there were any specific explanations and didn't ruin the character development of his...or adding the harem thing!
You’re wrong...like, objectively wrong.
I relate to hating being tall (6’ 4”), but for a different reason: I keep hitting my head on everything!!! Like Jesus Christ! During a Scouts Camping Trip, I hit my head 4 times on the entrance to the latrine, 5 times on the rafters of the rifle range, 2 times on the entrance to the mess hall, 3 times on the frame of my tent, and 1 time on the trunk of my scoutmaster’s car!
I feel your pain
I don’t... I know how to duck
Connor Walters good thing im not small or tall im average
Being 6'4" would suck man. How wouldld you keep that in your pants. (It's a dick joke if you didn't know)
I am 6'2 and I served on an aircraft carrier for 4 years. I was just short enough to comfortably walk around the ship without having to duck very much. After 2 years of this my ship went through a maintenance period that required us to always wear a hard hat. Becoming 2 inches taller for a month also caused me to bump into everything and it was a nightmare.
Im only happy sao exists becuase it led to the abridged series and this spin off is only icing to the cake the lovely folks who worked on the abridged show. Long live better writers making great stuff outta great concepts that turn into shit when wasted.
Gem Bocobo still a better love story than twilight
WE HAVE TO SAVE MY FAMILY
I once thought about rewriting SAO, but doubted that I could do something as good as an actual series.
Then I remembered how shitty SAO's writing actually is, and the fact that any half-assed fanfic made by _anyone_ would be comically better than the trainwreck it already is.
well.....i don't really know about that.
@@ZinbaForLife I've read better erotic fanfiction, SAO is mediocre at best, anyone with decent writing skills could do better
@@leovang3425 but then... not everyone on the internet has decent writing skills.
Technically, SAO was never going to exist, but Reki decided, why not send this other story I wrote in with the Accel World story, and boom, here's Sword Art Online. So it was just technically a little decision that made Sword Art Online. Also, the train wreck of an anime is complimentary of A-1 who wanted to make Kirito edgy to the point of hating him.
I thought it would be another SAO hate train tbh
There's a fair bit of that still
FUCK I'M 24 SECONDS LATE
Justin Y. Yup
Justin Y. Honestly it's still annoying.
NINJA BOY! I AM HERE BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY POWER!!
The fact that the main character is a girl and 6ft is something left field. This show was written very well and the character development is nice
The female clothing doesn't reveal much skin? It's most likely just low level armor.
LightningBlaze100 in LLENN's case it was literally just her starting clothes with a few extra straps and pouches and recolored pink.
So basically, yes. It is low level clothing.
LightningBlaze100 I was just adding on to what you said.
Which was unnecessary.
LightningBlaze100 my apologies then.
I only like SAO because when I see it, it makes me imagine much better and more interesting stories, prompting me to get back into a writing mood. So I usually watch it when I'm dealing with writer's block or whatever. It's just garbage that I use as more of a tool than entertainment.
Macaw Really? I might need to try that method sometime.
Me and my brother do that all the time. Heck we even talked about a "trapped in a videogame" story. Though I doubt anything will come of it.
so it's a writing advice but it's all sarcasm
Macaw garbage has no use therefore it’s useless, thus the name garbage. Yet, here you are finding use in this so called “garbage”. Doesn’t that mean it’s not really garbage?
Garbage can be recycled.
Wait, Kayaba had a reason. He was under pressure from the publisher and had gone three weeks without sleep to get it done.
SAO, but everytime Kirito isn't involved it gets better
I loved ggo it was amazing but I didn’t think that they develop the relationship with pito and llyn enough before the second squad jam
Yeah it feelt rushed but I guess Its the result of the limited amount of episodes they had to work with.
I only care about sao for the abridge series.
I stayed a lil sad with Alternative GGO ending, but still I hope that Alicization will do better
Empowered women? Clothes that serve as clothes? Characters that are characters instead of figurines to be held and obtained? My only response is words from a wiseman.
Non horrible SAO? Let me look outside to make sure that the sky is not falling and the seas do not run red with blood!
Connor Walters it’s still awful people just like it because a little girl is now god not a man with a a penis
Well of course! I checked, and the sky is still intact and God isn't having a nosebleed. So the status quo remains.
Doctor Adventure Actually she isn’t a god, and I just like a bunch of other people don’t watch it for that, if you seen this video you should know why people watched. Action is just one of the reasons.
I don't trust like that.
its not written by reki kawahara or done by studio A1 so its lost the primary factors that made SAO shit
I'll be honest, if I was in GGO, I'd be sporting an all pink outfit and weapon as well.
Luna Tycho Its like the lime green scouts in TF2.
My opinion on Sao: love animation, kirito's fights, and other fights. Don't like kirito's harem and plot armor.
Opinion on Ggo: loved most of it the action, comedy, and story. Do miss duel sword fighter.
i mean they probably should have explained why less people used the swords by the time of alternative, but i guess its fair, you need broken agility to use the swords effectively
No you're not allowed to like duel sword fighters. If a male Character used swords, they have to be tanky, more built than a bodybuilder overdosing on steroids, and with a face so hideous and evil that even ganondorf from BotW 2 cries in his sleep from looking at it
Came back to this video after binging GGO on Netflix this past weekend, and I've got to agree with most of your points here. It's a MUCH better and effectively executed story than the original, as much as I personally enjoyed Season 2, and it uses my favorite setting in GGO to boot! Hopefully they make more of the anime, since I believe the Light Novels are still being written? All four of the main characters, and the Amazon brigade are great! As far as not killing off anyone of significance, I'd argue they did that with Yuuki, even if she only came and went with the single arc. I also enjoyed the Tournament of Power, even though I understand why you're throwing a little shade at Dragon Ball Super. Cheers Jeff!
Reki Kawahara himself admitted he wasn't a good writer when he wrote SAO. That's presumably why he wrote SAO Progressive.
If I remember correctly he said he didn't feel like he was actually a good writer until he started writing the Alicization Light Novels. Hence why those Light Novels are so much different from the Web Novel, compared to everything before then.
His improvement is noticeable when you compare his writing from his first volumes to the recent volumes.
Kuro Neko
I really hope that the Progressive Series gets made into an anime, as that would hopefully fix a lot of the issues that people had with the anime.
Yeah that when you compare volume 1 aincrad arc to the progressive volumes, volume 1 aincrad arc will look like a summary of whole aincrad arc. As Progressive takes a floor by floor approach, we certainly got the proper development without the skipping unlike the volume 1 aincrad arc. I still doubt A1 Pictures to do justice.
Honestly, I’m glad he decided to heed people’s words and improve rather than shield himself from criticism.
It just goes to show: Just because your characters are shit, doesn’t mean you’re a shit character.
"How can this person help in saying in what I want this story to say"
And now I realize part of what helps me enjoy certain series so much and stick with them. Even the random characters _mean something_ and seem _cohesive_
i saw it on netflix one day and went in thinking "great, another season of SAO, k lets watch this cringe so i can get the memes later" and then came out SHOCKED THAT IT WASN'T EXACTLY SAO AND IT WAS OK. Not great, but not SAO bad 😂 Im excited to see more
So it's in Netflix.
Cool just got the Videogame and though it's riddled with the mainline SAO cast I liked the actual GGO world enough to start looking into the Anime adaptation
@@googleuser9383 Bro, Shut the fuck up. Learn how to respect other's damn opinions.
SAO alternative is pretty damn good so far. Though I think it's annoying people are already jumping in the hate train on it because of two things. One, it's name, ate obvious. Two because the main character has some plot armor. Even though almost every main character str had that and it's no where near as bad as kirito's. I just think people shouldn't jump the gun so fast. No pun intended 😂
JK Network there's a difference between having plot armour and just being OP. The show is also boring.
JK Network I'm enjoying it. Wish the recent episode hadn't been a recap of the past 5 episodes.
Yousexythang that’s your opinion. And she’s mildly op. She still struggles in a fight.
People are hating on it because it's bad. Not as bad as SAO but still bad.
She doesn't have plot armor, she stumbled into a broken build. They actually wrote that she put all her stats into AGI to be pink sonic because she had no idea how to do RPG leveling, add in the highest possible speed of average person, but transposed onto a body that's half the size and you end up with something hard to hit. There's more thought put into why LLENN gotta go fast than why Asuna is a world class fencer
You know I was thinking to myself that maybe Reki Kawahara would see how well SAO Alternative: GGO was doing and think "Wow yeah, I could learn from this" but instead I get this disappointing feeling that he'll see it and go "Wow... Karen's cute. Let's add her to Kirito's harem"...
plz no
oh god, now i'll have nightmares
I will give him hell if he does that, on the flip side, LLENN is in Fatal Bullet, and I think only the avatar talks to her and other GGO Alternative characters
That's against the existing narrative by a long shot, which even someone who disliked the series would know, I feel you are being highly inflammatory with no basis that it would ever come to pass.
SAO: Alternative and the main SAO stories are slated to be two separate stories that don't really crossover. Keep in mind that Reki Kawahara was the one who gave the go ahead for SAO: Alternative, and that he has worked with Keiichi Sigsawa before when writing the Phantom Bullet arc for SAO.
Besides, the story for SAO: Alternative was penned 4 years ago when the LN first released (yes, SAO: Alternative is not anime original), and during that time Kawahara mostly wrote SAO: Progressive IIRC.
Hey Mother's Basement, you should also check out SAO Progressive, it's SAO's story and legitimatively written well, it's a manga spinoff, and within 34 chapters, they've only gone from floor 1 to about floor 29. Plenty good worldbuilding and legitimate Kirasuna relationship buildup.
SAO Progressive is so bad
sleeping demon you didn't hear a fking world they said did you
Kit Kat I dont have to fking hear a world they said lol. I checked SAO Progressive myself, and its still horrible.
Sleeping Demon Ok why it is then ? And pls give me some good arguments instead of basic hate..
It’s pretty stale. The show started off great but keeps jumping over the actually interesting stuff and dropping exposition bombs in the most boring way possible
You act like character development is some sort of choice someone makes. “I’m going to develop my character now” that’s not how character development works, you don’t have to put away time in order to develop yourself as a person. Everybody goes through character development in their lives, it’s a natural progression just like evolution. You don’t decide to evolve, it’s a gradual and natural change over time. The difference in shows is that the writer has to make it feel natural where as in real life, you aren’t being written. In this aspect SAO fails.
At least DBZ doesn't claim to be profound.
From reading the novels I was under the impression Kiyama's motivation was that he wanted to make the world he imagined into something real... and to achieve that there had to be that threat of real death. Without that threat the emotions, experiences and motivations would be too shallow.
Not to say that it was ever particularly well explained in the anime or earlier novels.
