Modifying the machine is probably not advisable. Learning proper bindery techniques applicable to this machine would be my personal advice. (I've run Lawson walk-around 4color, ABDick 360s and 9810s with t-heads printing presses, and virtually every type of bindery equipment you can think of including a lawson stack paper cutter [52in throat IIRC].) Learn to correctly JOG your paper or stock into place. Also learn how to set the clamp bar pressure correctly to the stock being cut (over-clamping will move your stack pre-cut as well as underclamping which allows the stack to move during cutting), and always keep a sharp blade on the machine AND keep a clean teflon cutting pad on the machine. You would be amazed at how much a tattered cut pad will affect the quality of your cuts. These four things alone will increase your paper cut quality as well as efficiency - far more than making modifications to a machine like this one will likely accomplish. Just my .02 worth (not adjusted for inflation)
