I want to tell you how much I appreciate this video. I had a beloved hen who was slowly going downhill. Found your video and gave her the Epsom bath. She is 100% better the very next day. Thank you so much for this video, you are my hero today! My hen is still young and thanks to you she will have a longer happier, healthier life.

@@BecomeInspired I have 11 hens. My girl who was ill is doing so much better. She's eating good now so I'm hoping we will get some weight gain. She had lost so much weight she was skin and bones. She wasn't taking care of herself during her illness and her top beak had become overgrown so i trimmed it back a bit.Never thought I'd be giving a hen an Epsom bath but it was so worth it. She started wiping her beak off again the next day after the bath! Thanks again for your valuable video!

Tried this with my sick hen. She slept a lot; stayed away from other hens; her comb was laid down. Thought sure she was going to die from previous experiences with hens. She was a little better the next day. After that she was running around with all the hens. This definitely works. Several weeks later she is still normal. Thank you.

We never had any birds with that condition, but I have heard of it. Do they require some sort of grit or tiny rocks to eat that grinds their food up to keep it free flowing during the egg laying process? Perhaps a massage + some warm slippers to help them relax as well as applying an Epsom salt water soak ? I'm speaking "beak in cheek" about the slippers of course, but wondering what causes the bad conditions that hens get that can be avoided. When it was clear she wasn’t feeling better, I put some KY-Jelly on a gloved finger and gently checked inside her cloaca and after a minute of adding lubrication, she pushed out a very big lash egg. Yes! It helps relax the muscles and the magnesium in it gets absorbed by the body and helps with inflammation (which is common in most ailments). You don’t have to worry about overdose in an epsom salt soak because the skin will only absorb what the body needs. So never take magnesium pills then also an Epsom salt soak…do either or, but not both, just to avoid a possible overdose of magnesium.

That's wonderful. You had those in drops? A seizure - maybe from a vet's injection. One Study (of dogs) showed significantly greater risk of neurological dysfunction within a relevant time frame after jabbing (and especially the small dogs). For protecting pets (and humans) from community diseases, there's safe, superior, easy, affordable drops (without taste or smell). Homeopaths can send their medicines by mail. Consultations online or by 'phone. And most would have a 'phone inquiry service plus detailed information pages they send by mail - not marketing blurbs. Some websites are loaded with case studies and links to global experts.

Good, helpful & cute video! Yes this works. We have done it many times with our sick chickens. We use very warm to the touch water. Their normal body temperature is 105°F so lukewarm water will not feel warm to them. When they feel the very warm epsom salt water it instantly relaxes them. We also use a hair drier on low speed and warm to dry our hens feathers. They seem to like it but they are used to being handled so might not be acceptable to a wilder scared hen.
Another amazing help for sick chickens that have a fever I learned from my great grandma who was born in the 1890's - is wrap a quarter of an adult aspirin in a tiny bit of bread and use their waddle to open their beak and plop it in. Give once or twice a day. It is amazing how much help that gives them. The natural antibiotic colloidal silver helps them recover from respiratory troubles and fevers too.

This is great information and I love the comments. We don't get magnesium from our diets like we should, like so many other vitamins and minerals. Deficiencies can cause symptoms such as heart palpitations, depression and leg cramps amongst other things. I am 65 and take it every day, as well as an epsom salt bath every night for my aches and pains. I literally keep bags of it on hand so I don't run out. It warms my heart to see it got this girl going again!
I just bought my first coop and am about to get my first chickens, so I am soaking up as much info as I can. There's a reason your video showed up on my feed. I am so grateful for this advice and will tuck this "nugget" away! Thank you, sweet soul. Love.

I did the inside search for stuck eggs & found none. Then a fourth hen got sick & seeing this video inspired me to give my chicken an Epsom Salts bath & she seemed to really enjoy it. Then she went back to her nest box, but a bit later was out & eating food. Still looking sick & weak, but now I just found her up on the top roost! I would have never thought she would have the strength to get up there after 3 days of staying in the nest box. That's why these comment sections are so important, to share information with others to help everyone be happy that we can lift one another up. I pray that I can have a few of these beautiful birds + can know everything there is to keeping them in the optimum of good health + psychologically well also . I think this dear lady gave that lethargic hen a reason to shake leg , even if it was so that she didn't have to have another dunk in the basin ( LOL). JUST KIDDING. I don't see any reason that soaking anyone or animal in a baking soda + Epsom salt water bath wouldn't benefit them emensely. If nothing else , it will likely kill any mites that may need to be rinsed off them . I hope she shows us how to set up a dust bath, as the birds do love to use them also. I love to see greens hung low for chickens because they enjoy pecking at cabbage + other greens that make them healthy also. I heard that giving them opportunity to scratch is good exercise for them , perhaps would keep them from being egg bound as well, as well as to keep their bird brains active + help them avoid boredom + brain fog.
I suppose all of God's creatures need to have a well balanced life. Don't forget to give them treats every day, like special scratch mixes to pick over; even a worm or bug to let them know that you love them + are trying to keep them " upbeak " ( < play on the word "upbeat" because I think it's important to keep a sense of humor, even if one IS OCD silly like me) . I love chicken people who love their chickens.
It makes for a lovely community
of caring souls who really know how to peck (pick) the most
wonderful way of life. Happy chickens , happy life to all of you who care. 🐔🤗🐔 Don't forget to gently hug your chicken daily too. Fowls need affection like everybody else. I used to have a pet rooster who sat on my lap + took walks with me. I showed my chicken flock from an early age how to scratch for bugs in the dirt. My brother took a picture of me surrounded by my pets that I still have to spur ( like a roosters 🐓spurs - LOL) happy memories of gentle , peacefully "light as a feather" times , when life was free of the worries that tend to fly into our heads these uncertain days when , if we don't prepare - we may not be able to have good eggs or meat to keep us thriving. Wishing you all safety + a healthy, happy life , made so much better with your own chicken flock around you.
Find much to be thankful for, especially this Thanksgiving season. The Lord is so good , always.🥰

      ...immensely* 😊
If a hen is lethargic it's probably ill.
A hen becomes egg bound from a number of causes, often because of a calcium deficiency. Other causes can be, too much protein intake, internal parasites, poor quality feed, dehydration, stress, obesity, too large an egg, and oviduct infection.
Activity, or exercise, doesn't *prevent* a hen from becoming egg bound, but lack of activity can be a *symptom* of it.
Dust baths help keep hens free from external parasites 😁👍

I have only a small flock of 3 Americauna hens, I Barred Rock hen, 1 White Leghorn hen, 2 ISA brown hens, 2 Americauna roosters, and 1 Rhode Island rooster (which is about 2 too many roosters lol. But I cannot eat them or find them new homes, I haven't got the heart to do that) The boss rooster is starting to pick on the younger 2. Aside from building another coop I don't know what to do lol. Do you have any suggestions? How many chickens do you have? I have 10 birds. I used to have 3 more but unfortunately there seems to be a family of marauding red foxes in my area and they managed to get some. Now that my dog is full grown and not a puppy anymore he is a major deterrent for the foxes (Rottweiler) and I don't worry as much anymore about 4 legged predators.

@@brendanschilka2385 Thanks for sharing that with me! I've got five hens, but I've never had a rooster for longer than a month. My husband can't deal with the noise. So, with two roosters, I definitely don't have any advice here... wish I did! Two coops I'd say. I wish you well! I love your flock's variety ♥♥🙂🙂

i might be late but i have over 50 chickens... in order to stop that you need to have a bigger yard or build two coops and make SURE the younger roosters know that they should stand up. if he tries to attack you, make sure your younger roosters see and and stick your foot out. let it attack it (might sound mean) until he is worn out. then pick him up and hold him. always works and i have nice roosters now@@brendanschilka2385

This information is incredible! When living with my husband's family in Mexico, I learned that chickens are very succeptible to respiratory infections... Everyone living in rural areas knows all types of home remedies for animals - and humans. But I have never heard of this one - I would imagine it works if they are just lacking energy... but I don't think it would work with colds, viral infections, parasites, etc.

Animals are truly amazing and we can learn so much from them if humans were like animals this world would be a much better place! They give us so much the least we can do is treat them with the love and respect that they truly deserve they have no voice we have to be a voice for them and protect these special animals of every size, of every species all animals are given to us from our Lord above not to abuse or neglect but to cherish and to care for . It doesn’t matter what pet you have they want so little from us just some food and water a clean environment and in return for that we get endless loyalty, companionship, trust and no matter how we feel or how bad or good our day has been , our pets never judge us or let us down, how many humans can we say have those qualities ? Not many if any that’s why I’m at my most happiest with animals than I am with humans .This lady is an amazing example of how everybody should treat an animal .What a kind caring lady not many people like this in the world sad but true xxxx

One of my friends had a 12 year old chicken (yes, 12!!) And she started to lay leather eggs. They were very difficult for her, but Epson salt baths helped significantly! However, after years of farm amd veterinary work, I must say that some people keep their poor sickly or ancient chickens alive for the sake of a child or their own attatchment to the point that the chicken is pitiful and visibly miserable. Please be aware of the line between true care and prolonging another's suffering in order to delay your own.

@BecomeInspired The comment meant the opposite. That SOME people (not you, probably) don't give up on their animals to the point when they make their animals live a miserable life. The comment was not about this hen but about people who are so attached to their animals that they become cruel to them, prolonging their life when it would be kinder to let them go.
