You have no idea how helpful it was to see you rebuild the calipers from start to finish. I tried a similar project last summer and realized that not removing the calipers was a big mistake. Seeing your step by step process and how simple it was to replace the pistons, I wouldn't do it any other way in the future. The E32 was my second car and made me fall in love with bmw i unfortunately had to sell it bc of money reasons but seeing you restore this beauty gives me indescribable joy
Project Karlsruhe is by far my favourite of your project cars as i am doing the exact same restoration on my neglected 1988 e32 750il ( though very low mileage and almost rust free) it would never have run without the amazing videos and information you provide and you are 100% right every single time. My e32 was running rough, had bad cold starts and smelled like the bottom of a fish tank every time i started it. A complete restoration of the fuel system and igniton (following your guide) both made the job and the result joyful. From your perspective i assume 850ci and newer model e39/e60 gain more views, but the videos/tutorials you do on the e32's are second to none and cannot be found anywhere else on the internet and are therefore priceless to us. Keep up the good work, Sreten, and i hope i can get your tough but fair evaluation of my e32 some day.
Pozdrav Sreten! The bad steering is often caused by a faulty Servotronic control unit not by a dead pump! You can easily check that and disconnect the control unit and stick the both connectors into each other. After a start you should have a full powered steering suppot again! Its an common issue! The unit is behind the leeft footwell speaker! Pozdrav from Zlatko with the 1,8 mio kilometers 750i ;)
Hi Sreten, the old lower holder of the pressure accumulator you can glue to it without any issues with "MS-Polymer Montagekleber" or "MS-Polymer Kleb- und Dichtmasse" or "Karrosserie-Montagekleber" (it's this type of polyurethan-like glue in that 400ml Kartusche). That is absolutely sufficient and will hold longer than the rest of the car! Thank you always for your very interesting videos and wish you a happy new year 2024!
Thank you Sreten for your inspiration, I bought a abused E60 530XD and revived it to it’s former glory. Maybe a bad investment but I love the E60 generation. I will be flying by with project bratwurst this weekend on our way to Italy, from the beautifull Holland!!

I’ve had good results painting the uncoated brake disks with zinc spray. The color is not great but it survives the heat and keeps surface rust away for several years.
Just absolutely in love with this channel. I used to be deep in the E34 depths... but have since sold them all off and am driving boring reliable modern family cars. This channel brings me back to a time when I was single and let my passion for old BMWs lead the way. Keep it up, I just can't get enough. Cheers
I have an advice for you for the future. Epoxy based paints are great for protecting stuff from coroding, but they also accelerate corrosion more than salt if they are overheated (over 200 degrees of Celcius). Because of that its pretty bad idea to use it on stuff that gets hot (like brake parts, colling of the engine and others). If I were you I would just use high temperature paint instead of epoxy. It should last quite a bit if applied as you did. Other than that everything looks good, cheers!
Yes! Thank you!!! Finally! The E32! I have 16 inch E38 basketweaves on my E32 also. The rears fit without spacers but the fronts do require spacers or they hit the front shocks when steering. To avoid weird looking offset for your wheelwells and strange handling, be sure to put spacers on all four hubs.
I admire your work for refurbishing the calipers, done it many times but for 400 Euro you have 4 refurbished ATE units.. saves a lot of time :) 32:30 good solution , the clamp is a holder for spiro piping for ventilation :)
It's incredible! I do not know how you manage to engage with each video. I may take 2 or three days to watch the whole video; but in the end I watch it till' the end and I always have a huge smile in my face. Thanks a lot and great work! (With a smile in my face, and it counts. Keep it up).
I had this car 25 years ago, for three years. Bought it three years old. Within 3 years, I had to spend DM 950 for new brakes, what is pretty normal. Beyond this, a new light switch and a new windscreen washer pump, both for some DM 40.- each. And that´s it! It was a wondeful car. Fuel consumption of 16L/100km wa absolutely adequate.
TY for the video! I have really been on a roll with my E38 750. All new lemforder suspension, new fuel tank, sls delete, wheel bearings and new shocks and springs. It never ends but I still love it.
I love the statement "this is what you gotta do to save these cars". I'm very sentimental about my cars as well. I own 535i f10 and my baby 2015 M6. I've been searching for a nice e39 M5 but they are getting harder and harder to find and the prices are outrageous. I wish you were here in cali so you can help me wrench !
For the un-coated discs, I always paint them with a spray can of silver high temperature paint that is sold for painting exhaust manifolds. This copes with the temperature of the disc very well and looks great, way better than bare cast iron. Also, I would recommend adding a vise to your bench, great for holding the caliper parts when wire brushing.
on the topic of grease and rubber bushings on the brakes. The ATE instruction actually says to use grease to mount the rubber bushings on the OUTSIDE of the rubber bushings. The BMW repair manual is right here and its not contradicting to the ATE instruction. You already mentioned the reason not to use grease on the bolts, it collects dirt. The rubber bishings from ATE are made of a special rubber mixture including graphene as a dry lube. Other manufacturers (like autofren) dont have this rubber mixture with graphene, that's why I only use ATE or BMW bushings. Hope that helps.
Having worked on BMW's for most of your life, I'd like to see some buyer guides for the various models you've worked on, and list the common problems with prices for getting them fixed, etc. With your first-hand experience I feel like it would be amazing. Also because you show us in each and every video what it feels like to work on something you at least have the idea of. Thumbs up if you agree!👍🏻
Don't be so hard on yourself, you are a great fabricator! It is great to see you smash any curve balls this classic throws at you... the parkour was icing on the cake
Awesome job on the brakes, Sreten. At first, I wasn't feeling your choice of wheels, but as the video went on, the wheels grew on me. After watching you hold the calipers while wire brushing them, I would suggest you add a vise to your work bench.
So, still loving your editing style and addition of classical guitar music is cherry on kuchen! when you cleaned of calipers getting ready to assemble, where you sanding back to bare metal or simply smoothing the epoxy? Happy for your success! your my bob ross of bmw restorations!!
I swear every video you release unveils another talent you have for restoring old cars! Hand painted callipers this time, next video are you going to cast some molten iron into a new engine block? For real these videos are absolutely magical and you deserve every success coming your way, keep up the amazing work!
One of the other channels I really enjoy is Handtool Rescue and the host uses Evapo-Rust which seems to really do the trick for rust removal. Considering how rusty many of those tools are it does an amazing job.
Your musical director knocked it out the park with the euro beat and the whatever it was that was playing while you were painting what is ostensibly your Sistine Chapel.
Sreten, I just love your video's. The way you make all of your video's is just wonderfull! They are full of knowledge and humour! (Which I miss in most youtube video's) Keep it going like this. You also help me with my project, because the knowledge you share with us comes in very handy for me. Really enjoy every video of you! Thank you!
The sound of a properly running M70 is such beautiful mechanical music, so smooth and refined! They do have a very nice way of pulling forward like you're being pushed by the hand of a god from behind, just a very flat and consistent torque curve giving you seemingly endless acceleration. They might not be quick be today's standards, but damn it when they hit their stride they are LONG legged! They do shift smoothly too, wonderful driving cars! Also, for a car designed in the 80s, heavy and with a 5 liter v12, they are NOT as thirsty as some people might think! Sure, they do enjoy gasoline, especially if your driving is spirited, but drive it sensibly and you can keep it well under 15 liters per 100 km. 12-13 on the highway is to be expected if it's tuned up and serviced properly, maybe even 11 if you're taking it easy. Wonderful cars!
I just did the calipers on my e46 m3 in December. They turned out great and have held up so far after 6 months of daily driving. Prepping and painting them took about 10 hours total but you have to be thorough if you want it to last. I used the brush on kit from G2. Removing them from the car is definitely the way to go!
Nah, no need. Open all doors/trunk/hood. Let it fall asleep - 16 minutes. Then measure on each fuse with a Fluke. The fuse with high draw has the circuit with the culprit. Easy peasy! ^^
I greatly appreciate your E32 videos. Just so happens I have the same issue. I don’t ever like videos or share them. But due to our interaction on previous videos. You certainly deserve them friend. Cheers 🍻
I so wish you were around when I had my 1990 750iL! Got most of it figured out on my own but my skills pale in comparison to yours. Love the channel no matter which car you're working on - great content, information and a 750iL load of humor! :) EDIT: those rims are similar to what I have on my 1990 535i (they are from an e39 - still have the original e34 rims) but I did put on the BMW sourced center caps that always stay in the correct orientation. B) EDIT, again: did all that brake bomb stuff, as well as the rear bombs, on the 750iL, (sorry for editing as I follow along) not fun, also, I have some really easy tips for the seat twist fix since I had one on my 1990 525i and my 1990 750iL - fortunately, my 1990 535i has yet to see this. :) Again, thanks, Willy ... er, Sreten. Oh, also, you'll have to drill out the rivets on the window regulator and replace with 6mmx10 bolts and nuts (or reinstall new rivets, I'm not your Dad - don''t recommend that because you're going to have to do it again, one day) - did that on all three cars - a bit of a pain but not difficult. Oh, yeah, then you have the self- leveling control adjustment (you've already done the system, as I remember) and, then, the steering adjustment to center wheel again before you drive with the existing steering box, but, if you're replacing the steering box, that shouldn't be an issue but you'll still have to adjust it. Indeed, fun car. :D Sorry for so many edits ... this 750iL e32 was the love of my life while, at the same time, being the bane of my life. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything, though. :)
Brillant work, can't wait to see Project Karlsruhe back in it's former glory! Wow, it's been a long time since I heard the name Foliatec, didn't know they still exist. First producer of tinting foil for DIY installation and later one of the first with the caliper color. The time where RH-Rims (which you just throw in the dumpster xD ), standox flip-flop colors, massive car audio installations with leather (simply leather EVERYWHERE, even in the engine compartment!) and the first steps of illuminations were the hottest sh*t in town :D
I used Foliatec Yellow on my car. The paint is tough and resistant to brake fluid and brake cleaner but it's really thin so buy enough for 3 coats on all calipers. It starts to leave dropplets if you put on too much paint for each coat so keep that in mind.
6:22 Thats a known problem, but you should try one of those suction cups with a hook. Just slap it on the cap and give it a good pull and the cap should come off without any scratches.

@@M539Restorations Very clairvoyant! 😎
So, still loving your editing style and addition of classical guitar music is cherry on kuchen! when you cleaned of calipers getting ready to assemble, where you sanding back to bare metal or simply smoothing the epoxy? Happy for your success! your my bob ross of bmw restorations!!
11:58 a bob ross quote would have been nice
ye i was thinking the Bob ross of caliper painting
I swear every video you release unveils another talent you have for restoring old cars! Hand painted callipers this time, next video are you going to cast some molten iron into a new engine block?
For real these videos are absolutely magical and you deserve every success coming your way, keep up the amazing work!
I've got so many problems on my head, but while i'm watching your video's, there are just bimmers and your freaky skills heh
One of the other channels I really enjoy is Handtool Rescue and the host uses Evapo-Rust which seems to really do the trick for rust removal. Considering how rusty many of those tools are it does an amazing job.
What do you think of the bmw e9x 335i with the n54 engine?
Be ready to refresh all seals and gaskets, plus rod bearings. Do that and itll be solid 👍
Great work as always. I'll be rebuilding my calipers and it was really confidence inspiring to see how straight forward the job is.
"Obsessed with OEM" You love to hear it
Your musical director knocked it out the park with the euro beat and the whatever it was that was playing while you were painting what is ostensibly your Sistine Chapel.
"I wish I was Nick Blackhurst!" If you were, then your projects would still need finishing 6 years later (like Project Binky)
Those rims are sublime, so elegant and perfect on this car! Music when painting the Calipers sublime too!
Interesting how from German to English the Hardware Store translates as the Software Store ...lol
It doesn't. I think he just made a joke there. German to English Hardware Store would be the Construction Market.
Thank you!
26:36 LMAO that spit
So manly!
Your work is perfect for me! Your videos are the best on the youtube! Thank you!
You are an artist Sreten. And a good teacher as well. Good job as usual !
I guess I'm not sleeping then

Australian location benefit - link arrived in the morning this time! :)
I just did the calipers on my e46 m3 in December. They turned out great and have held up so far after 6 months of daily driving. Prepping and painting them took about 10 hours total but you have to be thorough if you want it to last. I used the brush on kit from G2. Removing them from the car is definitely the way to go!
Next video: Searching for a hot fuse with a thermal camera while weather in Germany is at 35°C
Cheers 🍻
Sreten be like: its not OEM, its gona break.
Those wheels do look really good. Some may argue, but I say the best looking 7 series is the E32. Nothing beats that classic look.
it's scientifically proven that red calipers increase braking effect by an additional 0.2-0.5 m/s²
I so wish you were around when I had my 1990 750iL!
Got most of it figured out on my own but my skills pale in comparison to yours.
Love the channel no matter which car you're working on - great content, information and a 750iL load of humor! :)
EDIT: those rims are similar to what I have on my 1990 535i (they are from an e39 - still have the original e34 rims) but I did put on the BMW sourced center caps that always stay in the correct orientation. B)
EDIT, again: did all that brake bomb stuff, as well as the rear bombs, on the 750iL, (sorry for editing as I follow along) not fun, also, I have some really easy tips for the seat twist fix since I had one on my 1990 525i and my 1990 750iL - fortunately, my 1990 535i has yet to see this. :)
Again, thanks, Willy ...
Sorry for so many edits ... this 750iL e32 was the love of my life while, at the same time, being the bane of my life.
I wouldn't trade the experience for anything, though. :)
Great work! I bought the same caliper paint kit, new hoses and caliper kits from your links. Look forward to giving it a go on my 750.
Can't believe I watched this to the end. Learned a few good things.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!

Thats a known problem, but you should try one of those suction cups with a hook. Just slap it on the cap and give it a good pull and the cap should come off without any scratches.
Who the hell would give a dislike to this guy? Love your videos and the care you put in everything man! Keep it up, you are the best!
It was so relaxing to see Sreten painting those brake caliper with the Picasso technique
Well I sit here at home, know nothing about the mechanics of a car, just pure entertainment. Thanks Mr M539.
