Being my full time job is boiler treatments, it makes me happy to see a salt tank and chemical feeds to keep the boiler properly maintained
One of my favorite episodes of FGP! I’m in awe about how a factory like this can even operate given the state of manufacturing in the US.
Looking forward to seeing you at Boot Camp, fellas! Didn’t think I was going to make it this year but thankfully it worked out.
Might be the wrong season for this with boot camp coming up (and not directly related to this episode), but was wondering if you’d consider a Jacket Guide to Horween Leather? Kind of a follow up to the Dean Delray episode and the Boot Wearer’s Guide, there’s been a lot of good info about different leather used in jackets throughout the podcast, but it’s all disaggregated. In particular, Utica, Pinnacle, Sonoma, Lux, Deertouch, Horsefront CXL, and deerskin (nonspecific tannage), have all been mentioned in the past, but I was wondering if you could take us through the different leathers that have been out in the market and how they perform or are expected to compare to each other or even leather typically used in boots? I think it might be also interesting to know which makers have used Horween for jackets in the past or currently as it seems like the market is a little smaller and more intermittent than boots and it has been a little harder to find. I think Schott, 3sixteen x Schott, Aero, and Coronado have been mentioned, wasn’t sure if there were other options out in the world. And finally, I think Nicks mentioned having some admiration for some of the Japanese leathers used in jackets in the past, so maybe an opportunity to expand of what you’ve seen in non-Horween products too? Thanks as always! (Also, I suppose I’ll bury this question here too - do you have any alternate ways to support the podcast that are non subscription based like Venmo? Or based on what we’ve seen in this episode, would faxing a check or money order be an option?)
Very interesting! Thank you. Am I correct in assuming that even during shutdown some tanning pits would still be filled, since some tanning takes weeks, if not longer, right?
I need more of a breakdown on the new Roanoke leather that Nick's is showing off
