    A bit of a wild suggestion here, but I’m tempted to suggest the Absolvers might be of the 114th Grand Battalion of the Iron Warriors, a unit that, despite being traitor at the onset of the heresy, would switch back to being loyal again after being reminded that “the path of honour remained”.
    The 114th was also noted to have fought with ferocity that was likened to world eaters, and perhaps crucially, their official fate following the scouring is unknown, as their leader more or less seperated himself from his men after the switch back to the loyalist side, being part of a blackshield group since purged from imperial record, minus the forge world of Mezoa.

      Honestly I often wonder if some of these chapters are descended from one of the lost legions. The primarchs were erased but it was heavily implied that the legion soldiers were actually passed off to other legions (mainly the ultramarines. Which is part of the reason the ultramarine legion was so large.)

      This would explain both the name and the chapters notable ideal of honoring oaths. They broke their oath to the emperor once, and never intend to break another.

      @@markcarpenter6020 Except we have at least one mention of the gene-seed of Astarte's moved into new Legions/Chapters having their Progenoid glands exchanged for their new Legion/Chapters Primarch. Suggesting this happened to surviving Astartes of the 2nd and 11th Legion who were moved into the Imperial Fists and Ultra Marines. Though now that I think about it there is one other traitor legion of old known for their ferocity in close combat and who a loyalist chapter made from would live forever seeking 'absolution' and would honor their word/vows as dear to them as their very lives....Lunar Wolves.

    I suspect Dark Angels, myself. The Lion was known for being particularly stubborn, the Angels' and their successors are extremely secretive, and the name Absolvers fits in with the common and generally religious nomenclature used by the Sons of the Lion.
    Also, I have heard that Russ was a knight playing savage, while the Lion was a savage playing knight. He had a very aggressive temper, leading to such things as outright stabbing Russ... a group of frenzied fighters could easily be his kin.

    I definitely find it unlikely for the Absolvers to be children of Ferrus Manus, as they lack any outright connection to the Adeptus Mechanicus or technology as a whole, and appear to have a standard rate of augmetic usage as opposed to the extreme rates displayed by the Iron Hands and many of their successors. I would find it more likely for them to be descended from the White Scars (due to their armor coloration, disposition) or Ultramarines (sheer number of successors, rigidity and adherence to the Codex)

  • @TK199999
    @TK199999 10 месяцев назад

    Its odd people forget there are many confirmed Ultramarine successor chapters known for the brutality and ferocity in battle, especially at close quarters. Ultramarines and even Guillemin himself are known for intense bouts of rage in combat. Its just that they have control over it, most of the time, rather than it controlling them. Something to remember the Angeron was not violent before the Butchers nails and now its believed the most violent members of the Warhounds were like Haar. Last generation Thunder Warrior candidates who were made into Warhounds rather than Thunder Warriors.

  • @markcarpenter6020
    @markcarpenter6020 10 месяцев назад +1

    When people are discussing these mystery chapters why is it the lost legions are almost never mentioned as an option. While the primarchs and the legions were erased its been heavily implied (hell they may have flat out stated it somewhere by now) that the surviving Marines of those legions were split among other legions with most of them going to the ultramarines (which is part of the reason their legion was so large). So it is at least theoretically possible that not only are some of the mystery chapters decended from them but even some of the offical ultramarine successor chapters ad well.

    • @40KTheories
      @40KTheories  10 месяцев назад +2

      It depends on whether or not the lost legionnaires retained their original gene-seed, or if their progenoids were replaced with ones from their new legions. We know this sort of thing does happen, since Epimetheus, upon being inducted into the Grey Knights (as shown in the novel Pandorax), had his original Dark Angel progenoids removed and replaced with Grey Knight ones.

    • @markcarpenter6020
      @markcarpenter6020 10 месяцев назад

      @@40KTheories that can definitely be debated. But we know that the gene banks on Tera contains gene seed from all 20 legions. So it's still possible a mystery chapter could be descended from them. After all the emperor made each legion for a specific purpose (alpha legion were black ops, night lords were terror tactics, iron warriors siege specialists, etc). So the high lords might have needed whatever one of those legions was a specialist of. The big problem is we know so little about the lost legions (we don't know their temperament, battle style , gene flaws or anything else) that they are always a possibility but with no way to prove it's from them.

  • @Cruzader310
    @Cruzader310 10 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, but remember it's also likely (given how all data pertaining to the existence of the Lost Legions was purposefully erased from Imperial records) that they had their original progenoids removed and replaced with new ones. The reason why this is possible is because when Epimetheus was first inducted into the Grey Knights, his original Dark Angel progenoids were removed and replaced with new ones made especially for the Grey Knights (source: Pandorax).
