Just a PSA: I also did this border crossing, even down to the same hostel in siem reap. My driver fell asleep at the wheel on the drive and nearly crashed the bus. With that particular border between don Det and siem reap, the drivers must driver 14 hours a day (7 hours there and back) making it dangerous conditions for fatigue. If you do this yourself, just make sure to stay alert and keep your eyes on the road. I ended up shouting and woke the whole bus up including the driver, he immediately pulled over and slapped himself, bought an energy drink and thanked me. We spent the rest of the bus insisting on the radio playing loud and having the windows open to keep the driver alert.
Wow!! Bravo to you for being aware and alerting everybody! We took a bus in Vietnam last month, which caught fire and apparently that's also common in SE Asia. We lost all our belongings and only made out by seconds. Well done you for being so aware and alerting everybody, you do have to be so careful when traveling!
My wife is Cambodian.. I've been there twice ( a month each time ) I love it there!! *super cheap* Check out Kampot (Mlech adventure), Siem Reap, Mondulkiri, Bousra has amazing waterfalls, bokar mountain has amazing views (sihanoukville used to be a nice Chill beach town, now it sucks, full of rude Chinese and Casinos *mostly abandon* EVERYWHERE)
Loved Cambodia when we were there around 15 years ago, passport control was unbelievable, I think at least 10 people checked our passports at a long round desk, jobs for the boys I think 🤣 Seam Reap has changed a lot, they were just starting to build some new hotels etc - the food was amazing and Angkor Wat is well worth a visit 👍 I’m sure you will both love it. Have Fun.
Ah so cool to see you kids are in Cambodia...enjoy and stay safe! Will be in Vietnam and Cambodia in May and am getting super excited watching this during my lunch break. 😊🙏😊
As a side note, you should always do the e-visa when coming to Cambodia as this way you avoid having to pay the $5-10 bribe, plus the visa on arrival takes up a whole page in your passport just for a 30 day visa.
If you dont wanna get scammed you should go to the thailand border at sovannaket( a loatian province) to ubon rachatani ( a thai province) then ride a sleeper bus to sa kaeo ( also a thai province) then ride a mini bus to aranyphratet ( the border town to cambodia) If that was helpful thanks 😅
But the "pay with one currency and get aonther currency back" thing goes for Laos aswell right? When i was there i always paid in baht and got gip back. If they saw me having baht the would almost not acceot if i wanted to pay with gip, this was like 10 years ago or so.
It sounds like that $2 charge is a departure tax. Thailand used to have a departure tax a long time ago. Although, that was an official fee and it was made clear that you would have to pay it when leaving. It sounds like this Laos one may not be very official!😂
@@steld4695 It's relatively rare in most other Asian countries. Siem Reap is the worst. Nearly everything is dual-priced from the people selling cabbages to the $37 day pass for Angkor Wat. Corruption is part of their culture and they have no ethics or shame about it.
Guys, out of curiosity, why are British passport front covers always faded quickly, even just in a short amount of time? Emilia's recent blue one is not old. I've seen so many of them completely gone blank but not other countries'.
Loved this video! I went from Siem Reap to Don Det and this video brings back alllll the memories! It was also my first boarding crossing and I was so nervous, it was a bit dodgy but all worked out for me! Enjoy Cambodia :)
All these titles "worst" guys come one... make good content, not catchy titles. It's about productions, not sensation. Idk whats bad in Laos and Cambodia border, crossed it three times and never had any problems. People are just way too comfy.
Doing this border in a few days, did you do the journey yourself or did you book through a travel agent? If so, which one because they all have bad reviews 😅 tempted to do it myself as I can get to the border for 40k Kip but then is there buses the other side that I could get on to go to siem reap or stung treng?
I was just in Cambodia. Don't bother with USD after paying for your visa. They won't accept the bills if they aren't perfect. I got tired of arguing about it and started using riel. Trust me it's so much less of a hassle. I loved Cambodia. Enjoy it. The people are awesome. Border agents not so much. 😂
Yeah, it's time for Cambodia to stop using dollars. If they're gonna use them, they should come up with a system to exchange old notes for new. Other countries that use USD like Panama are happy to accept in any decent condition. I'm not sure what Cambodia's problem is, but I suspect its rooted in their crooked culture, they're always scheming.
Unlike other borders you are forced to pay for an exit stamp, otherwise you will be illegally not allowed into the country even with the correct paper work. It’s a way for the border control to pocket money, and doesn’t reach the Cambodian government.
Enjoyed watching your journey crossing overland from Southern Laos to Cambo. Can you actually buy bus/mini van tickets from Nakasong or Hat Xai Khun to Strung Treng on two separate vans? How did you book the tickets online?
We crossed from Vietnam into Phnom Penh and we’re told it would be 30$ but ended up being 40 and we didn’t have it so they threatened to leave us at the border 😒 had to get more money out and was fine thankfully but yeah got a good first impression
Oh really didn’t know it happened at that border too! It doesn’t create a great impression for the country, especially when your already paying for visa, they should do something about it
You just paying the fees to those 'officials' is perpetuating a corrupt system. Then you are openly telling your followers that "hey its just a few dollars", which is such bad advise. A lot of people are being extorted at this border and your supporting it.
Unfortunately, paying is the only option as this border if you refuse to pay you have to find another point to cross the border where’ll you most likely have to pay too! People in front of us refused and they point blank don’t let you in the country! Just one of those things which are frustrating but there isn’t really a way around it unfortunately
No. Notice how they also paid $8 on the Cambodian side. The dual-pricing and bribes begin at the border and it never ends until you leave. It's based on race and generally benefits the elites while the poor get nothing. The wealthiest people in these countries are not expats but the local elites who drive $200k Mercedes and Rolls Royce.
To be frank, no good impression of Cambodia (particularly for Asians) because of the extremely serious human trafficking and enslavement issues whose main target (victims) are Asians.
Come on thai also had scammer and they are big scam than cambodian scam I leave from Hotel Almeroz to Airport 200km charge me 1000bth and when I take out my video He said 200bth i'm too lazy to bully Thailand not as Thai ppl never tired to bully other.

Do they have taxis or uber im SEA?
whats name of the border?
@@RosinGoblin They have Grab, which is what I would recommend in SEA.

Sihanoukville has become the scam capital of Cambodia, thanks to the massive influx of Chinese immigrants.
Another great video 📹 guys keep up the great content 👍 But you always got to be safe and careful 👍 😀 😉 🙏
Thank you! Will always try and keep safe! :)

Note to self:
Keep departure card for Laos otherwise have to pay extra for another
Cambodia = USD but can give USD to get Cambodian riel back
Love the 7Eleven of Thailand. It was the best place to grab anything you need.
True it's like convenient mart hehehehehe
Thank you 🙏 so much for Cambodia 🇰🇭 trip, Have a good trip lucky to both of you 😊

Thanks for watching! For sure, it's a great place to visit, so much interesting history and culture!
Hi guys great content...how did you book your tickets from Don Det to Siem Reap? Ty
Just got to Cambodia last week. Used an evisa no hassles at all or extra fees.

Siem Reap recently completed an overhaul paving program city wide.
Wow Cambodia surprised me. Looks so clean and lots of places to go in the city. Is it cheaper than Thailand?
No, Cambodia is more expensive, plus dual-pricing for tourists is very common in Cambodia.

Where exactly do you get scammed?
7/11's are creeping up everywhere. You'll also find them in Phnom Penh. Have a great stay in Cambodia, and make sure you head south. Take the train 😁

Yes, there is always a collection of money from the staff. It's a very boring little corruption.

I mean it's 2 dollar (nvm after watching that extra 38 dollar is kinda yikes). Hope you still enjoy the trip tho
