Learning bird calls, or want an extra challenge? There are a few bird calls throughout this video that I don't mention. Try to listen out for them (watching in a quiet place or with headphones helps). After watching the video, check the Hidden Treats section in the video description for the answers.
Aww, what a beautiful walk and a big variety of birds. You are a great teacher. Thanks so much. I'll be going there to see them in person. Bless you 👏👏🙏❤️
Thank you Rob for another great video. I’m so glad you included some education on the Darter, as if I saw a bird like that on a walk, I would have thought it was in need of rescue. I hope they don’t have too hard a time whilst their feathers are regrowing. Best wishes 😊
No problems at all. There are not many photos online of darters in-moult, so I asked a couple of wildlife carers before publishing the video to confirm this one was moulting. I was relieved to know it was normal 🙂
Loved the visuals, bird audio, and commentary. Thanks so much for taking us along on your bird walk! New subscriber and fellow birdtuber from Utah, United States!
Great video. As a relative newby who has walked these same paths a few times while in Brisbane I realise that I miss a lot such as the tree martins. Thank you.
What a great birding video. It was like birding in Australia without the long trip. It is fun to compare the birds with the one of the same families that we have here in North-East America. Thank you.
I agree the comparisons are so cool. I've only visited Alaska and Hawaii, the number of new birds and entirely different families was mind blowing! Hummingbirds just wow! Thanks for watching
❤thank you! It’s so nice to be able to figure out which birds I’m hearing when I can’t see them. Great job zooming in to get so much detail. Really enjoying your channel. 🥰
There is the one and only honey-eating bird in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR - and that is the Fork-tailed Sunbird. This is the time of the year where this bird’s favourite flower is the Bauhinia flowers. The Bauhinia flower is the National Flower of Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR.
I live in Wynnum West and take my dog often to the wetlands for a walk at the crack of dawn. It's a great walk and always see heaps of birdwatchers and I love seeing all the wildlife. My son went to Iona.
It's great to hear from another local Sandy Camp fan! I wish the councils would create more reserves like this for people to enjoy. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Rob. Funny how you do a quick romp around somewhere I've visited a few times and effortlessly point out everything I've missed up till now. If you're going to South America (as you mentioned) try the Pantanal - 650+ bird species, and much easier to spot than in the rainforest. I spent a lot of time there. Great place for wildlife.
It looks like a quick on the video but it's actually 3 - 4 hours of me chasing birds and waiting for them to be still looking enough to get some decent footage 😅 It took me a few weeks to edit this video, so I've already returned from Chile and Peru. It was fantastic. I'll definitely check out Pantanal next time I'm in that direction. Thanks for the suggestion ☺️
I used to live just up the road from there. I liked to net around the water for small fish to identify, from memory most fish in the area are pests like tilapia and mollys, Ive found a few turtles from time to time. Theirs also a hidden seadoo in the shrub near one of the lakes which you can use to paddle around on lol. I used to use it to plop a yabbie pot out in the middle of the ponds. Funnily enough, I've never caught a yabbie of any sort in that area. but my guess would be theyre of the smaller variety which would fall through the netting. From time to time, after rain you can find the occasional turtle on the paths towards the back areas.
That's an interesting perspective - thank you for sharing! I occasionally see Eastern Long-necked Turtles there, maybe they feel more comfortable there these days 🙂
Thanks for sharing another site. I hope to visit next time we are up there. A couple of birds I haven't seen yet too. Have a great trip to South America. I look forward to seeing you videos :)
Nice. Some days the weather is just right, the flowers are blooming and the birds are in the right mood. I'm not sure how to predict such days, so I just put it down to luck. Thanks for watching 🙂
Cool. There's actually a hidden birding spot in the back corner of the Iona field across the road. I've never been myself (technically it's private property) but I've heard there's often many waders and water birds there.
@ thank you so much Rob for replying! Your images are brilliantly sharp! I use the Canon R50 but looking at getting the insta360 go3 or the Insta360 Max pro 2 to vlog with. Decisions decisions 🤷🏼♀️🤣
Splendid Fairywrens are absolutely beautiful! They prefer the dry interior of Australia. The closest reliable spots would be out at St George and Roma but that's a 6 hour drive! They are most accessible are around Perth city. If you haven't already, you might want to check out the White-winged Fairywrens. They are closer and arguably just as beautiful. They are reliably seen at Oakey (2hr drive).
wow dude! it's crazy to see you walking my local birding location, have you been to the bird hide over near the Wynnum bugs rugby field it's one of my goes 2s apart form this !
It's a great spot. Do you mean the bird hide at the end of Wynnum Boardwalk? Or, Kianawah Road Wetland (3 min drive from Sandy Camp), that often has a few species not seen at Sandy Camp.

I come for the birds, I stay for your commentary 😊
Thank you. It's hard to find the balance between being entertaining and educational, but it's part of the fun I suppose ☺️ Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Rob, yet another excellent birding YT. Thank you for your work involved in putting this up for us to enjoy.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Happy birding!
Thank you for sharing your walk with us. I was able to identify a number of birds that are on our property and enjoyed your narrative. Enjoy your trip
Glad you enjoyed it and are now able to ID those birds 😊
❤thank you!

Awesome, I used to love visiting all the wetlands when I lived in Manly West many years ago. Excellent video Rob.
Thanks for watching. Based on your username, I'm guessing you're in Cairns now; that's an incredible place for birding!
Sure is. 😊
Great video of a favourite birding spot. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it. Happy birding!

My absolute favourite birding location
Mine too! Though it is hard to pick just one favourite around Brisbane. We're spoilt for choice!
Thanks for sharing another site. I hope to visit next time we are up there. A couple of birds I haven't seen yet too.
Have a great trip to South America. I look forward to seeing you videos :)
No probs. Thanks for watching. It's definitely worth a visit 🙂
I got photos of 4 Ospreys at Sandy Camp but heard 2 if them died last month. great video 👍 and thank you.
Ah that's sad. Hopefully the the pair has better luck next season. Thanks for watching
😂😂luv your birdwalks😢
Thanks for your ongoing support Zona 🙂
You should head up to the hinterland, like Tamborine mountain or O'riely's
It's on my to-do list 🙂 I've been planning a Scenic Rim video but those rainforest birds are proving tricky to get decent footage of!
I was there last week, one of my favourite places, although you saw a lot more than I did .

Nice one Rob as usual
love these videos :)
I hope to have some time to visit this site to do some bird photography.

Finally, a channel that both I and my fat lazy house cat can both enjoy equally. 🤣
As long as your cat doesn't leap towards the TV! Glad you both enjoyed the video 🙂

Hi Rob, I’m curious to know what camera gear you’re using a very much like the results.
Hi Don, I use a Nikon P950, lightweight and the best bridge camera for birding IMO 🙂
@@birdwalkz thanks
Is the Grey Butcherbirdva member of the Australian Magpie ?
Very close! They aren't in the same genus, but they do share the same subfamily - Cracticinae.
