I am eager to see what this engine can do with honing in the future years. This is the first year the car has been released to the public and a lot of people seem to forget it isn't a diesel engine, but functions like one but it is still a gasoline engine. From the numbers alone it performs better than its d and g counterparts having more hp and still gets great gas mileage
Transparency note: Autogefuel videos are independent and free from editorial influence on opinion and rating. But since manufacturers enable us to do the reviews in the first place, for legal reasons this video is marked as _advertisement_.
Liftoff oversteer isn't a powerslide. I also severely doubt it's legal in BG lol. Although i have driven in BG, and took many taxis there ... the way the taxi guys drive, i would say the line between legal and "who gives a fuck" is a very blurry one haha
Thanks for a nice review. Both are good looking cars, but the hatchback is in my eyes more striking from the outside. From the inside though the fastback has bigger rear side windows, and a light grey headliner, and pillar trim, so it feels much more open and welcoming. If the hatchback had the choice of the lighter interior I would go for that one, but as it is not, it's a tough choice 🙂
Have you seen/been in any with the red interior? Here in Romania (just north of Bulgaria) I haven't seen any, only black interiors. I am interested in the red interior. Any idea what's up with that? Is that option limited to only some countries or something like that?
Autogefuel i'm tired of funeral black inside my cars, white interior is my favorite since at least 10 years back. black interior with some matching accents would work though.
@@autogefuel just got a reply from Peugeot (Sweden) the brighter interior will not be offered on the fully loaded E-208 :( i need to step down from GT to GT-line in order to get white/bright interior. i also lose the adaptive cruise control, the alcantara seats and blind spot warning feature.
why mazda does not combine that engine with turbo and have more even torque and power on low rews and even lower consumtion equal or lower of turbo diesels?
It already has A supercharger but it used to keep the engine in compression ignition mode for longer duration of the RPM. It is used to boost economy not horsepower. Adding A turbo would complicate this high compression engine even more.
@@787brx8 Adding a turbo will complicate the engine because turbo charging is more complicated and less reliable than super charging. A lot of consumers know nothing about turbo charging and just want turbos just for showing off. However adding an electric supercharger will be the correct thing to add to the skyactive x engine.
For a second I was looking at the speedometer in mph and not kph and I was like THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAR GETS FROM 0 TO 60 IN 4 SECONDS. I'm a dumbass XD
@@herrgolf Except that the real world economy numbers with small turbocharged cars almost never meet the expectations, whereas this skyactiv-x is doing quite well. If you drive a small turbo car with any sporty intentions whatsoever, fuel economy goes out the window. I drove a 116i rental for a few months, and boy ... that thing drank 8-9 liters / 100 km easily when you pushed it ... and pushing it didn't mean much, it mainly meant more noise. I now drive an mx5 ND2 (skyactiv-g), and i get a real world figure of about 6.5l/100km. That's with it seeing the rev limiter at least once a day.
@@detaart if fuel economy is your concern when buying a 180+ hp car, you're doing it wrong. For 180hp the performance is underwhelming.. you just end up paying higher taxes for car that performs same as a 150hp car.

@@TheAegisClaw If you have a well maintained car diesel does not stink and actually it can sound just fine, nice even. Don't hate on something through ignorance
@@TheKruxed oh it's certainly not ignorance. I currently have a diesel Mondeo, but I do realise my next car is very unlikely to be a diesel. Probably not one of these either, possibly a hybrid or maybe even full electric if the prices for those come down a little more over the next couple of years.
@@TheAegisClaw There isn't really the infrastructure where I live to own one unless you only do short trips. I'd be interested in a mild hybrid that VW and the like are doing. Having said that, engines like Fords 180hp 3 cylinder in the Focus seem better to me than this new Mazda engine which is why I was disappointed after following the hype train for years
You have to keep in mind that: 1. This will be the first year the engine has been released to general public. New engine and they are seeing how well it can run in consumer's hand. Best play it safe than go overboard. 2. It runs completely different than a 100% diesel engine, remember it is more of a hybrid of a gasoline engine and a diesel engine. Thus it may not completely overwhelm a 100% diesel or a 100% gasoline engine. Compared to a typical commercial gasoline engine, the skyactiv x from the numbers alone definitely improves in a lot of areas compared to its counterparts
Why? The Mazda manual transmission is one of the best in the world. Why would you not want the pleasure of rowing through the gears on a well-engineered gearbox? Are you disabled?
Manual are for enthusiasts who enjoy driving. Automatics are for lazy people who feels driving is a chore. Heck why not just get a Tesla if you're really that lazy.
I'm an American and I'll only EVER drive a manual transmission. I'll never buy an automatic. They're not "much nicer," they are soooooo boring, I can't stand them. I have a strong suspicion you don't know how to drive a stick shift. If you did, you'd understand the connection it gives you with your car. You just wouldn't understand. Plus, in real-world driving, not government (EPA) fuel economy numbers, the manual often out-performs the automatic! It's true.

Nice review! Loving Mazdas designs lately, this saloon variant Reminds me of the old Mazda 6 MPS

Is the interior quality that is winning. And its looks. Needs a faster version to compete tho
currently driving mazda2, loving it so far. mazda3 would be my next car :D
Sedan model for me, as a matter of fact this exact car would be perfect
Thanks for the disclaimer in the description. I was worried there for a moment ;)
Cheers man! Yeah, legislation is not clear as of right now, so better be safe... of course nothing has changed with us :)
Brilliant review great English thank you.
thanks Anthony!
Thanks for the sedan version review.
I hope they will do a stationwagen/shootingbrake style in the future.
It would be the Alfa 159 of the 2020s (in terms of good looks, not questionable build quality!).
They will not

I think Mazda could do with a sportier engine option for the 3 and CX-30.
250hp and it would sale a lot more I hope they pump it by 2022 model I'll buy one in a heart beat .
amazing car, great reliability

Is the sky active x worth the extra cash over 2.0 l engine? Does it feel more powerful.
Sedan is more practical but hatch is sexier.
That's what we have discussed in-depth already in the long CX-30 review:

What a engine cover!! Does it use to cover noise from engine?
Since the skyactiv-x will have a tendency to sound a bit more diesel-ish at low revs and high load, i suspect so.
Love the look of the Mazda3 hatch only if you can live with the lack of rear seat and cargo space

Ist der sky activ x Motor wirklich sehr sparsam?
are those two chrome stripes in the front fascia exclusive to the Skyactiv-X or is that exclusive to the European market???

What is your opinion about road and wind noise?
How much torque with this engine?
