4:49 I truthfully cannot see any jelly scrolling on the 7 at all here. What are you referring to? Ghosting, sure, but that's a separate issue. If it's so slight that it doesn't even translate to video, in contrast to the 6 where it's very obvious, it's strange for the conclusion simply to be "it's still there". Based on the footage it appears to be either gone or almost gone.
I had iPad Mini 6 since launch 2021, I originally wasn't going to buy the Mini 7 but decided to upgrade because I figured an upgrade after 3 years is worthwhile. I was also thinking who knows how long it will be before the next iPad Mini is launched since Apple included their AI on the Mini 7.
I am thinking the same thing. I also got the base model of the 2021 version so spring if 2025 ill be buying a mini 7 with more storage and keeping my 6 for out of the house since it’s also data compatible
I knew the iPad mini wasn’t going to get an OLED screen until at least 2026 or later. But I was hoping for a ProMotion display & Face ID in the mini 7. Even tho it didn’t get them, I am gonna buy the mini 7 for sure. It’s still a HUGE upgrade from my mini 5. Much Faster chip. Faster wifi & usbc. More internal storage and best of all, Apple Pencil Pro support. I’m an artist, and even tho my iPad Pro is my main content creation device, I always grab my iPad mini when I wanna travel light. It’s the perfect size digital sketchbook when on the go. It’s almost the same size as an A5 moleskin sketchbook which is a very popular sketchbook size for artists. I am gonna order a cellular iPad mini 7 in blue. Just trying to decide btwn the 256 & 512 gig model. Chances are the iPad mini won’t get another update for another 2 or 3 years again… so waiting for an OLED or pro motion display iPad mini with Face ID is not an option. I know the mini 7 will give me many years of creative productivity. ✍🏼
All I really want is Face ID. Otherwise it’s fine. Mean mini led or oled would be nice. I don’t see difference in frame rate. It being the only device with Touch ID and doesn’t use watch to unlock(Macs) is annoying
Don’t buy this iPad mini the fact that they haven’t even fixed the jelly scroll in which shows you just how much Apple cares about this iPad mini, and here’s a hint, they don’t.
Nice review! I have only two questions. 1. did apple upgrade the modem for the cellular version? 2. did battery life improve? Thanks! Considering to upgrade because I have the iPad mini 5 and I dislike the lightning port, single sided speakers, and the screen. I feel this iPad is a good upgrade for me.
I hear people on here constantly complaining about the jelly roll effect…I have tried to re-create that effect on my Mini 6 and I just can’t see it. I’m actually going to upgrade to the Mini 7, but only because I needed more hard drive space. Otherwise I wouldn’t waste the money upgrading. It’s a great secondary/travel iPad to my iPad Pro 12.9.
Its a pity that the mini upgrades are even smaller an iteration than with the other devices from the looks of it. You’ve been quite critical and insightful on the whole new line up and it really helped me decide on what would be a good fit for me. 👍🏾
I have the iPad mini 6, so there's no reason for me to upgrade. Will definitely sit this one out. I was hoping for external display support, that would have been the only thing that could have got me to upgrade.
honestly the fact that this new ipad mini 7 is like only 20 percent faster and has thermal throttling and stuff makes it kinda worth getting the air and above unless u want a small ipad
I have m1 11” and m4 11” I’m tempted to trade in my m1 for an iPad mini 7 and give m4 to my mom. I just missing mini form factor. So yeah I do want smaller iPad.
@@Lastskykey i would give up the M1 ipad pro because it has similar performance to the mini 7 but the m4 i would keep because it is way waster and has the best display on the market
Current trade-in value up to $230, so reduced upgrade cost to $269? With a three year old battery (wish the Settings Battery app had health indication), getting 8GB RAM over 4GB, 128GB storage over 64GB (currently using ~50GB) I'm still on the fence. IF Mini 7 supported App;e Pencil 2 non-USB-C I probably would jump. Thoughts Max?
All the above plus fresh warranty led me to do this exact trade-in. I did not get Apple care, since I figure this will last until the next gen comes out 3 years from now.
You currently own the Mini 6. If Loaded with cash. Buy the Mini 7 Else Keep the Mini 6 If you don't own any. Buy the Mini 7 If you want more savings. Buy the Mini 6 No changes in anything except you have to adopt the latest Pencil Pro and better CPU(?). Really disappointed that it is offered with a lower binned chip. Really was expecting at least A18 to be inside. The A17 "Pro" chip naming will definitely fool alot and really alot of people.
Planning on getting the Mini with cellular and getting the smaller 16 Pro. Has anyone tried something similar like this combination? I just find the Pro Max too big. And planning to sell the iPad Air M1.
It’s kind of like holding a iPhone 12 Pro Max and deciding whether you should upgrade to the 13 Pro Max isn’t it. The Apple Watch Series 6 upgrading to the series 7 also has some stiff competition, but what makes this the stupidest thing ever is when you finally realize that Apple takes the exact same chips and clocks the chips down to make them less faster than to add insult to injury. They actually software lock certain features. This is what it’s truly like and what you’re up against deciding whether or not you should upgrade….. great now I need to go buy that $140 apple pencil that I’m never gonna use
I've been using a mini 6 since it released, perfect form factor, only issue is that I frequently exceed it's limit in freeform because it just does not have enough RAM, considering upgrading simply due to that. T-T
I am ok with 60hz display, but I am not ok that the display quality(anti reflective, viewing angle, color, scrolling smoothness) is not on par with current ipad air. It’s basically the display quality of regular ipad which is not appealing to me. For the price point, I am not expecting oled or 120hz, but I guess because there is not much unit sold of ipad mini for apple to have incentive to spend more time on R&D on the mini.
Yes, this is one of the reasons that the Mini units are not sold enough for further R&D. The other one is Apple doesn't want competition among their products, so making a lower end device too appealing would diminish sales in the upper tiers. This is the reason for not letting iPad Air and Pro models to run macOS. They are more than capable of doing it, but Apple doesn't want to see declining sales for MacBooks for this reason.
Well as far as upgrading- its really a question of whether its worth $270 or so. Because if we ipad 6 owners were to upgrade we would likely trade our mini 6 for it and right now the rate we would get for that is around $230. So we would be spending almost $300 to get these admittedly exciting upgrades in speed and usability. Is it worth spending $300 to upgrade for that boost of speed and performance? Idk!
I cannot see the jelly scrolling on the right side, and also the ipad 7 has more low end on the inbuilt speakers. Jelly scrolling is not subtle, think you’re a little suggested. Try to see that left half of the screen is moving slightly before than the right side and vice versa. What you can see on the mini 7 is just delay. Is curious that Apple Watch Ultra 2 have same issue but only few people realized because the screen is too small I can test it by myself tomorrow cause I’ve purchased one and have also the mini 6
WOW !!! A "brand new iPad Mini " and a "brand new Air Pods Max " in the same year. Apple are really surpassing themselves in 2024. I’m over excited. I think, I’ll buy a dozen of each…😊
I’ve been following all the hype around Apple’s new iPad Mini 7 and I believe I have concerns that go to the heart of what Apple is doing with is mobile device product lines and how Apple can better serve customers. I own an older iPad Mini 2. I've been wondering about buying a newer one. I'm impressed that the newer iPad Mini models have powerful processors, nicer displays, better cameras, USB-C, etc. I own an iPhone SE 3 (2022) , my first-ever iPhone, which has an A15 processor in it, so I'm familiar with the power of late-model processors. Apple's iOS mobile device operating systems are remarkably stable and powerful. But I do see some negatives to both late-model iPad Minis and my iPhone: Apple will not give the iOS/iPadOS greater computational software functionality so it can be used for desktop-like productivity like an everyday computer. I'm not suggesting that Apple install MacOS on an iPad or iPhone. That might be overkill. The handling of files and multitasking is severely lacking on iPhones and iPads. What good does it do to have such a powerful processor, the ability to plug-into a 4K desktop monitor, a powerful USB-C port, and yet still not be able to harness all that power to do productivity tasks? I'm not suggesting that these devices should be full-blown desktop replacements. I'm suggesting they could be desktop supplements or enhancements. Right now, they're more like desktop accessories. What Apple should do for its customers (all iPhone and all iPad owners, all late-model devices) is offer an Apple version of Samsung's DeX. DeX is a feature included on some high-end Samsung handheld devices that enables users to extend their device into a desktop-like experience by connecting a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The name "DeX" is a contraction of "Desktop eXperience". If I could take a late-model iPhone or iPad (one that has a USB-C port) on the road with me and plug it into the desktop keyboard, mouse and monitor, and if that setup could connect over the internet to cloud-based services like Apple's iCloud, Microsoft's OneDrive, Google Drive, or even DropBox, a late-model Apple mobile device owner like me could access productivity files while on the road. Apple stopped making its "tapered unibody" 11-inch MacBook Airs in 2016, so Apple basically ceded the tiny netbook-like ultraportable space to other manufacturers. If Apple offered DeX-like capability in late-model iOS/iPadOS devices, they could be the same or better than anything else out there. I agree with others that the iPad Mini 7 display could be brighter as well. I would love to see someone come out with an aftermarket case that would make this iPad Mini feel like an Amazon Kindle reader so I could take it with me anywhere and use it like an ebook reader instead of carrying a separate device. I also wish the iPad Mini offered an ability like an iPad Air with a camera and flash so I could use it as a "document scanner on-the-go.” Apple really does have tremendous potential with its mobile device product lines, but they just can't seem to bring themselves to tweaking these products to offer better productivity. And if you go clear up to a MacBook Air, you no longer have a rear camera, Apple Pencil drawing ability, or even touchscreen capability. So there's this gaping hole in Apple's offerings for services and capabilities between the mobile devices and the laptops that Apple seems allergic to acknowledging. It never ceases to amaze how many kinds of portable products Apple can come out with, but they still can't fill in that gaping hole.
I think the 7 is a solid improvement if you’re upgrading from a 4 or 5th gen. They could’ve done a few more updates and kept the price point. While smartphones are peaking, there’s quite a bit they could have done. It’s definitely not JUST a copy and paste of the 6th gen, but definitely an S upgrade, not quite what I was expecting after a 3 year hiatus. Although, $500 in 2024 is not that same as $500 in 2021
Will that screen problem affect while playing games? I’m planning on getting it mainly for game streaming/emulation, reading, drawing and taking notes, but if the screen have that problem, will it affect the gaming experience?
Ebay has the z fold 4 for $500. It's basically an ipad mini, phone, and with dex it can be used like a mac mini. Plus the fold 4 has 256 storage, a 120 htz screen, oled, and wireless.
Everyone talks about jelly scrolling, but they never talk about the Bluetooth issues on the 15 pro that Apple has been promising to fix since lunch but are still not fixed.
Hmmm my Mini 4 is struggle bussing to keep up just browsing and RUclips (still works ok but JUST) bought the 128gb version of that for $299 years ago. maybe next black Friday the 7 will see a decent sale price.
The only way to see jelly scrolling is through another camera in slow mo so i don't get why people still complaining and I'll choose 60hz over 90hz because of better battery life and i prefer lcd over amoled when viewing content for a longer time, less eye fatigue
iPad mini 6th gen I use a lot but sometimes app crashes, glitches, freeze ,battery warm forcing me to restart or defective What if this iPad mini 7th gen is same ?
I really like the iPad mini. You did not test the - to me most important thing. Battery-life of the small mini is the most annoying/limiting thing for me, not jelly-scrolling,… Any improvement there with e.g reduced power-consumption of the new chip during regular use (e.g. surfing, youtube) would be a major improvement.
Is the iPad mini 6 the only one with jelly roll? I had a 4 or 5 (don’t remember which one) and I never noticed it. I’ll have to go to the Apple Store and see for myself and if it bothers me.
The jelly scroll on the mini 6 is absolutely atrocious and bothers me a lot! So my question is, the mini 7 seems to be improved over the 6, but by how much? Would you say it’s like a 50% improvement or more?? If it’s improved I might still upgrade.
have you considered looking at these new mini pc's with occulink? it's such a game changer, i know there's gaming laptops but you're constantly losing performance because of the battery. if i'm going away for a month i'd much rather take one of these and have a keyboard mouse and monitor on either end.

The iPad mini 7 seems to be scrolling at a lower refresh rate than the mini 6 as well…
I just bought an Apple refurb iPad mini 6 for £120 cheaper. I don't play mobile games and don't care about AI, so the performance differences are irrelevant really - it's perfectly fast enough to play music and watch RUclips. The 7 also doesn't support my Apple Pencil 2. Hopefully next time they'll update the screen, because it's a major weak point of this device - it needs Mini LED at a bare minimum, and ideally 120 hz.
I've been checking out reviews on the mini 7 - this is the best by far. Thx for the effort in making this! Awesome. I'm going from Mini 5 to 7.. almost skipped the jelly scroll, damn. I’ve owned the 5 and upgraded and owned the 6 when it got released. I never thought it was ever slow 😂. And don’t even notice the jelly scroll. It’s been wonderful. And I’m not upgrading since it’s nots really much of an upgrade to me.
I want an "iPad Mini Pro" ehehe. What if we could combine the iPad mini chassy with an A18 Pro and 120 Hz and other things. Id buy that the moment it comes out
Hope you would be willing to pay $800 for the base model when that drops? No
Complaints or buts
apple wouldnt do that as it would hurt the sales of iPad Pro
@@smashandburnyt6938 exactly so why are they asking for something they know Apple would never release. It’s a corporation and not a make a wish Tech company. They tried a mini with the iPhone and y’all basically spat in their faces and told them fck u with your wallets and lack interest in them. So we are even Lucky they release a new mini iPad at all. Take it or leave it. They sell the pro’s with those high features, if you can afford it, just be ready to pay. There’s a price and use case for everyone. People just over reach for things Even android manufacturers won’t do and the ones that do make it so bad with crap parts but they don’t complain, hypocrites.
You already got that lol search up 16 pro max
@@Testimony201it’s probably be around 600-700.
The jelly scroll was my biggest hang up on the mini 6, so if it’s much better or hardly noticeable I might still upgrade.
Probably another 3 years till the next mini sadly… my dream iPad is an iPad Pro with a 9 inch display
I am thinking the same thing. I also got the base model of the 2021 version so spring if 2025 ill be buying a mini 7 with more storage and keeping my 6 for out of the house since it’s also data compatible
I didn’t notice any jelly scroll on the 7th gen iPad mini
He meant the iPad mini 6
@@AntonioOki And which iPad do you think I'm talking about?
@@Adgale he might misread cause I did too 😂
I don’t have any problem with my mini 6 speed it’s quiet fast for most of the tasks i do, I had better hopes for the 7
The jelly thing seems quite less noticeable in the 7. It’s enough for me ✋🤚
I knew the iPad mini wasn’t going to get an OLED screen until at least 2026 or later.
@@Regantdarcy why would the Mini get Pro Motion when the Air didn’t get it?
@@ChazUBCSExactlyy, the mini is just a smaller and weaker version of the Air, it will likely never get Oled or ProMotion
Don’t buy this iPad mini the fact that they haven’t even fixed the jelly scroll in which shows you just how much Apple cares about this iPad mini, and here’s a hint, they don’t.
Will you give your money on this trash product? Those damn fanboys
Thank you for a fair and balanced comparison.
I was about to hit order when I saw the iPad mini being released. Then I read the difference from the mini 6. And I stopped.
I’m waiting for Face ID. Mini 6 is great and still preforming like new.
Well I just wasted 18 minutes of my life of learning nothing new to other tech youtube channels
Will the iPad Mini 6 get AI support in a future update? Or just on the 7?
Just the 7th. That is what this update for
honestly the fact that this new ipad mini 7 is like only 20 percent faster and has thermal throttling and stuff makes it kinda worth getting the air and above unless u want a small ipad
Well that’s kinda the point… people buy the mini because it’s a mini, not for performance
The excitement is palpable
is it worth getting?
Yes
if you have the 6, then no
This is revolutionary in 2024 still with ips lcd screen and 60hz refresh rate, I love Apple
Buy the Mini 7
Else
Keep the Mini 6
If you don't own any.
Buy the Mini 7
If you want more savings.
Buy the Mini 6
No changes in anything except you have to adopt the latest Pencil Pro and better CPU(?). Really disappointed that it is offered with a lower binned chip. Really was expecting at least A18 to be inside. The A17 "Pro" chip naming will definitely fool alot and really alot of people.
Compare it with iPad Air M2 as few years back we use to get same specs on both. If it sucks then compare it with iPad Air M1.
Why did you not get a iPad Mini early Max like others?
Planning on getting the Mini with cellular and getting the smaller 16 Pro. Has anyone tried something similar like this combination?
I just find the Pro Max too big. And planning to sell the iPad Air M1.
Good job. Your channel excels at this type of research. Thank you.
Kudos for REAL performance tests.. not just the bla de bla all other US reviewers are touting.. 🙏😍🙏
If you won’t use it why would you buy it?
Another brilliant video! Thank you for always giving the straight dope for potential buyers ! My best!
So basically, if you dont own an ipad mini yet, its a great buy
Mine should arrive on the 29th 💪🏻
So now it's satisfying toe ipad mini written on the back 😅
I've been using a mini 6 since it released, perfect form factor, only issue is that I frequently exceed it's limit in freeform because it just does not have enough RAM, considering upgrading simply due to that. T-T
I'm also a display nerd that reads a lot and have not had any issues with jelly scrolling since I use dark mode.
I'm not sure about anyone else but on the speaker comparison i heard like, a pretty big difference with them
Basically, the Mini is a smaller AIR tablet. Now, we need a smaller PRO tablet 😂👍 8.5 inches with ProMotion, Face ID and OLED 😎👍 $799 ? I’d buy it !
I like it ! And is it included The Jelly scroll feature!
As a person who had been waiting for this mini, I really loved your video! Thanks, very useful! Pleasantly disappointed with the performance 😍
Idk!
the answer is nope, unless you need that Pencil Pro
I cannot see the jelly scrolling on the right side, and also the ipad 7 has more low end on the inbuilt speakers.
Jelly scrolling is not subtle, think you’re a little suggested. Try to see that left half of the screen is moving slightly before than the right side and vice versa. What you can see on the mini 7 is just delay.
Is curious that Apple Watch Ultra 2 have same issue but only few people realized because the screen is too small
I can test it by myself tomorrow cause I’ve purchased one and have also the mini 6
Apple failed to update the #1 complaint - the display.
Tim Cook is delivering crap products lately.
WOW !!!
A "brand new iPad Mini " and a "brand new Air Pods Max " in the same year.
Apple are really surpassing themselves in 2024.
I’m over excited.
I think, I’ll buy a dozen of each…😊
This ipad was made by supply management. Cant buy the iphone 15pro anymore so they have all these leftover chips.
transfer read speed is why i would want the mini 7 lol
But I do see some negatives to both late-model iPad Minis and my iPhone:
Apple will not give the iOS/iPadOS greater computational software functionality so it can be used for desktop-like productivity like an everyday computer.
I also wish the iPad Mini offered an ability like an iPad Air with a camera and flash so I could use it as a "document scanner on-the-go.”
Apple really does have tremendous potential with its mobile device product lines, but they just can't seem to bring themselves to tweaking these products to offer better productivity. It never ceases to amaze how many kinds of portable products Apple can come out with, but they still can't fill in that gaping hole.
they never wanted to fill that hole, they always want to upsell to you
I think the 7 is a solid improvement if you’re upgrading from a 4 or 5th gen. They could’ve done a few more updates and kept the price point. While smartphones are peaking, there’s quite a bit they could have done. It’s definitely not JUST a copy and paste of the 6th gen, but definitely an S upgrade, not quite what I was expecting after a 3 year hiatus. Although, $500 in 2024 is not that same as $500 in 2021
Thank you very much for this video! I bought mini 7
transfer speed insane if we compare with mini 6
Will that screen problem affect while playing games? I’m planning on getting it mainly for game streaming/emulation, reading, drawing and taking notes, but if the screen have that problem, will it affect the gaming experience?
Yes
This should have been a 1 minute video that ends with a savage beat down of the consumer screwing approach of Apple....
I did not notice the jelly scrolling it’s very apparent on the mini 6 tho
On 60hz not worth buying this year, i wait this one out 1-2 year after price drop 😅
The only way to see jelly scrolling is through another camera in slow mo so i don't get why people still complaining and I'll choose 60hz over 90hz because of better battery life and i prefer lcd over amoled when viewing content for a longer time, less eye fatigue
Not fixing the jelly scroll issue is a MAJOR dealbreaker for me personally. *sigh*
I've heard of several that say it's dramatically improved even in this video is much better
iPad mini 6th gen
I use a lot but sometimes app crashes, glitches, freeze ,battery warm forcing me to restart or defective
What if this iPad mini 7th gen is same ?
I think more ram better, but not the other way around
I really like the iPad mini. You did not test the - to me most important thing. Battery-life of the small mini is the most annoying/limiting thing for me, not jelly-scrolling,… Any improvement there with e.g reduced power-consumption of the new chip during regular use (e.g. surfing, youtube) would be a major improvement.
Is the iPad mini 6 the only one with jelly roll? I had a 4 or 5 (don’t remember which one) and I never noticed it. I’ll have to go to the Apple Store and see for myself and if it bothers me.
I don’t notice it. Most people don’t notice it. It also present on older ones but in different orientation. They changed the screen layout for mini 6.
Guys, is is possible to make the Neural Engine benchmark across iPhone generations? Let say since 12 or 13. That would be very interesting video!
What about battery life?
With the iPad Air M2, and iPad Pro M4, they changed the camera so the previous Apple Pencil 2 didn’t work. But what’s the excuse here?
I use mine to read. I think the 6 will work the same.
Without significant display update, it doesn’t worth updating. I’m sticking to my 6th gen.
Pls kindly test DaVinci Resolve with new mini - thank you very much in advance :)
How about Battery?
Am I the only one that thought “isn’t the iPhone 15 pro chassis smaller” when he said, “let’s see if the chassis is too small for the A17 pro chip” 😆
really disappoining they didn't solve the jelly scrolling issue. the ipad mini is becoming apples stepchild
The jelly scroll on the mini 6 is absolutely atrocious and bothers me a lot! So my question is, the mini 7 seems to be improved over the 6, but by how much? Would you say it’s like a 50% improvement or more??
If it’s improved I might still upgrade.
Its actually worse and choppier in portrait. Returning my mini 7 today while only trying for 10 min, made me feel nauseated.
Thanks good video !! What about stage manager? Is it posible to use full screen with external monitor ?
Since mini6 had the biggest change from mini5, you can’t expect Apple does the same in mini7.
have you considered looking at these new mini pc's with occulink? it's such a game changer, i know there's gaming laptops but you're constantly losing performance because of the battery. if i'm going away for a month i'd much rather take one of these and have a keyboard mouse and monitor on either end.
The iPad mini 7 seems to be scrolling at a lower refresh rate than the mini 6 as well…
Yeah it has bigger storage but how much storage would be left once AI drops next week? Probably the same as IPad 6.
Hopefully next time they'll update the screen, because it's a major weak point of this device - it needs Mini LED at a bare minimum, and ideally 120 hz.
the 7 benchmark might improve with an update just saying, ive seen it before.
I've been checking out reviews on the mini 7 - this is the best by far. Thx for the effort in making this! Awesome.
I'm going from Mini 5 to 7.. almost skipped the jelly scroll, damn. Close enough maybe. On the updated video your planning, please play a couple of Steam AAA games. Gotta check the differences.
The year of deceptions, At least the Macs will get a real update this year.
