I upgraded / traded in my mini 6 yesterday for the iPad mini (A17 Pro) 256 gb, plus cellular and I am not disappointed. I used the mini 6 as my main computer and the A17 Pro Mini will continue to be my main computer for the foreseeable future. The mini is great for trips, tooling about the city, chilling out at a coffee shop etc. I have been running the 18.1 Beta and found no issues, the mini doesn’t get warm so far as the mini 6 did. All in all the A17 Pro Mini I feel will be just right until the next upgrade, or Apple introduces an iFoldable.
Got my blue one yesterday and it is still my favorite iPad. I will never purchase another larger model again. I was out of storage with the 64 gb, and I desperately needed the 128 gb. The one disappointment was still having the 60 hz. Seriously Apple, this was a no brainer and because of that I think they should have called it the iPad Mini 7, not A17 Pro. If the upgrade from 6 to 7 is as impressive as you say it is, then i have no doubt the 5 to the 7 is a whole new level! Was very much looking forward to this video and i am not disappointed! :D
Yes, that will be a great upgrade from the mini 5! Especially if you value things like Apple Intelligence, extra RAM/memory, document scanning, and gaming!
Same here actually. I also have a mini 5 and like you said it is just starting to show signs of slowing down, especially with the new software updates from iPadOS 17 and 18. The person who buys the iPad mini is likely to be the one who has an iPhone and a MacBook. They don't need a big tablet because they have a MacBook. The iPad mini, which is only 7% of Apple tablet sales, is not an important lineup for Apple, and there will be no new iPad mini release for at least two years. Because of this, iPad mini can be discontinued at any time. Except for the still 60Hz LCD, +35% CPU & GPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Wifi 6GHz, USB 3.2Gen2 is an overall upgrade. Note: A18pro has better performance than M1, CPU performance is 10% higher than A17pro, and GPU performance is 20% higher. In other words, the performance of the iPad mini 7 is about 90% of the M1. Personal opinion: In a year, the iPad Air will be increased by $200 with OLED, and in 2-3 years, the iPad Mini will be increased by 200 dollars with OLED.
I did the same thing. With a trade of the base to the new base it’s worth it. It’s not worth a $499 purchase though. With that being said I don’t believe Apple ever called this an iPad mini 7. It’s an upgrade to the iPad mini solely to make it fully compatible with Apple AI. Really very little more besides a few quality of life upgrades. It’s not a new gen. It’s a spec bump for the current gen. I bet a new one comes out in a year maybe 2 max. No way another 3 year wait.
I think many will! I wonder if Apple Intelligence will entice people to upgrade later this year/next year. For me, all it took was always seeing that "low storage" popup to know I needed to upgrade 😭

The device itself is not crap, it is better than the old one. It’s just not a massive upgrade you may have liked. And for those who didn’t get the 6 this may be ideal upgrade
Not having a 120Hz refresh rate screen in 2024 is disgraceful. Even worse when 200 dollars phones do have it. After 3 years, should be better. At least an 18 Pro, better screen, and Stage Manager when plugged to an external display (Samsung offers Dex on phones, but you can’t have something similar on iPads 🤦🏻♂️). I’m just hoping Apple releases a new model that change sizes when you press a button. Because you know…. Go for the Pro… 😂
I’ve been watching a few reviews now, and notice that some models have the signal bands on the top/bottom and some don’t, like this one. Is the difference if it’s WiFi only vs WiFi/cellular ?
I'd say yes, if you want a smaller form factor. The latest 11" Air is only $100 more than the mini, so that makes more sense if you want to stick with the larger display
Great review Brandon. You covered the advantages of all the upgrades unlike a lot of the other podcasters who did nothing but bitch and moan in their simplistic reviews.
A18 doesn’t have any exclusive features over A17. Now we know the mini isn’t getting Stage Manager anytime soon, likely due to the small screen as I thought when it was introduced in iPadOS 16 in 2022.

The device itself is not crap, it is better than the old one. It’s just not a massive upgrade you may have liked. And for those who didn’t get the 6 this may be ideal upgrade
That’s just the words of a hater 🙄
why are always the guys who aren't using the mini so big mouthed and full of hate?! YOU DON'T EVEN USE AND OWN THE DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe it’s a good purchase for myself, I’ll definitely pick one up.
so because it's not meant for you, it's a bad and crappy device? Cmon now, you aren't the only customer in the world
Not having a 120Hz refresh rate screen in 2024 is disgraceful.
Can I use the iPad mini 6 Smart Folio on the iPad 7?
1 = 1 push-up
I’ve been watching a few reviews now, and notice that some models have the signal bands on the top/bottom and some don’t, like this one. Is the difference if it’s WiFi only vs WiFi/cellular ?
only cellular model has that
FYI: There's many channels showing that the jelly scrolling wasn't fixed in iPad mini 7
@@letiziasparks2902 well if they say it’s the same, they’re flat out wrong
Yep, its not fixed, only reduced. A shame Apple couldnt reduce the bezels a bit too.
Anyone know if its worth upgrading to this model from my iPad mini 6?
we don't need mini 7, we need mini pro with pro motion as a gaming device XD
Yeah that'll never happen lol. We can dream!
@@BrandonButch For now I will stick to iPad mini as a kindle and 12.9 iPad Pro as moba device I guess😂
Definitely want a mini pro. It would be perfect!
If Apple made a Mini pro, people would complain about the price.
@@educated_guess It’s meant for people that can afford it so even if they complain I would still buy it
Ummm iPad mini 6 has 5 icons across the screen and 7 has only 4, am i wrong?
That’s a settings difference
Dude, seriously. Change it in settings. LOL
WTF they offered me $230 for my 256gb version.
Is the new iPad a good upgrade for a iPad Air 3?
Spend a little more money and get an iPad Air with an M series chip.
I can’t even get a trade in quote from Best Buy because it’s down lol
lol no Apple trade-in?
@@BrandonButch If they offer more that will have to be the move! Currently $230 Apple. Will see what Best Buy says.
@@sleeprene For sure! Keep me posted, that will be awesome if it's more
Best Buy gave me $260.00 upgrade from the Mini 5 64gb.
@@ljacobs357 in person or online? Says they’re undergoing maintenance sadly. I’d like to trade in Mini 6 64GB so $260 sounds great
Looks pretty cool
it's awesome tbh. Can actually use it one-handed
10:40 the AAA games will be available now on the mini 7
Assasins Creed Mirage
Death Stranding
Resident evil 7 8 4
and more
Still 60hz refresh rate in 2025? And next iPad mini will come after worlds ends LOl. Apple what you thinking ?
Anyone have the cellular version? Curious how esim pricing is
I got 2 of them 😊
It’s also 230 for my 256 gigs mini 6… that sucks
Me on my iPad mini 2…
Yeah I regret getting an iPad. You’re making all these apple pencils for a money grab. I’ll be switching to Samsung next year.
I was thinking about buying the ipad mini and was expecting it will come up with A18 or A18 pro but A17 pro deal breaker for me, so change my plan
🤣
A18 doesn’t have any exclusive features over A17. Now we know the mini isn’t getting Stage Manager anytime soon, likely due to the small screen as I thought when it was introduced in iPadOS 16 in 2022.
@@techwithtyler20 A18 pro comes with improved 3nm technology, which is alone enough to use it in long term. For me AI is a total gimmick, In mini they increase the storage and ram from the last generation ipad.
Can u check JellyScrolling bug, if still there on iPad Mini 7?
Yeah I regret getting an iPad. You’re making all these apple pencils for a money grab. I’ll be switching to Samsung next year. Storage doesn’t matter when you have cloud…nice try.
This is Ryka
Let’s go Brandon lol
🤣 what's up Ryka! 🙌
What’s uppp
Why do some iPad minis have no led flash?
Because these are from an older generation (?). This wasn’t that hard to find it. The future has still to arrive!
Hi,Brandon!
hey Andy! Hope your day is going well
@@BrandonButch I’m doing great Brandon hope all is well with you
Hi. We are doing great too!
@@BrandonButch I just saw the short interview that you did on X! You did awesome! Great job! You should be proud of yourself for doing that!
Any news on 14.1 inch iPad Ultra Pro 2TB M4 chip I am desperate to upgrade from iPad 6 Pro please
iPad Ultra?
14.1"? Not seeing any rumors that have held water on that. the 13" is incredible--you can get that!
Picked up an iPad Mini 6 months ago, and I’m loving it! So glad I did not wait for the 7. The ‘upgrades’ are not worth it for me.
It’s the same
Jelly scrolling is the same on the new mini too
dude.................... you are not the brightest light in the darkness, huh?!
Slightly reduced ... only took them 3 years
512 GB is nice but if you have a large iTunes library, you need at least one terabyte of storage or 2 TB in order to download it all.
Apple Music ftw! No worry about music storage here
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
was waiting on you
@@BrandonButch sorry I disappointed you…try to do better and comment quicker 👍🏿
The only difference is the chip. That’s it. That’s what I saw on the website.
Use the actual “compare iPad” section of the website
Wrong
Obviously didn't pay attention to all the spec updates..lol
I always enjoy Brandon’s voice!!! So sexy!
😔
