Splatoon 1 & 2 Review: An Imperfect Masterpiece

First off, I apologize for some of the video's quality lol, this was edited from a live stream. It is what it is. Anyway, I've wanted to spill all my thoughts about Splatoon for a while now and with the time I have these days, a live stream styled review was the best way I could do it.
I've talked a lot about this series over the past few years and I was hoping to basically put down my final thoughts on the first two games of the series, especially because Splatoon so far has been one of my favorite Nintendo IPs.

Splatoon is huge influence to me because the aesthetics and characters are just perfect in any video game I've seen.
Big agree with theme impact on maps, the stage gemoetry is very samey, I think manta feels the most distinct, splat 1 maps had a theme and the map design effected by it, splat 2 just had a map theme. Some stages could easily change the background and theme and the map would feel identical.
The motion controls are great but I wish they were a bit less laggy like in Splat 1.
Splatoon 1 was about the most fun I’ve ever had with any game ever. I couldn’t get enough of that game. As soon as I saw the first trailer for Splatoon 1, I was immediately hyped, and it lived up to it. Thus, when Splatoon 2 came out I still had all that hype, and I loved that game too. I perhaps enjoyed it more than others because I was never a motion control user to begin with, so I never had those issues. For me it was just a great continuation to an epic franchise, although it did lack in some areas compared to the first game. All in all, I love this franchise so much and absolutely CANNOT WAIT for Splatoon 3 to come out. I hope it gets even better
Oh and I don’t remember how high a rank I got in the first game, but I got rather high. In the second game I got S+ all across the board and even managed to get X-rank in Tower Control (I think that’s the right mode)
It's not really connected to the quality of the game itself but I think 1 of the most impressive aspects of Splatoon is how it was able to defy the odds and still managed to become 1 of Nintendo's big boys.
Having a brand new IP can be really challenging as it's in that "yet to prove itself" category but on top of that, Splatoon debuted on the Nintendo Wii U which was a headache all on it's own. But yet, despite that, the original game managed to sell almost 5 million copies and pretty much became a Nintendo icon overnight, even to the point where they already have a spot in both Smash Bros and Mario Kart which is something not a lot of other Nintendo IP's can claim to have.
When you are able to defy these kinds of odds and still manage to rise to the challenge, you know you have something special.

Hopefully splatoon 3 fixes the minor issues like being forced to watch the news on stages
Are you gonna do a review of Skyward Sword HD when it comes out? Ik it’s gonna be the same as the regular version but the graphics will be better, and they might add more Easter eggs and stuff. DO IT.
Idc but I still think you should do a quick review of that as well. Tbh I’m watching this rn and Splatoon just seems to be getting more interesting to me.

My goal is to do more reviews in the future since we kind of found a way to do it "quickly" with the time that we have, and some reviews will most likely include both Andres and myself. Skyword Sword would probably fit into that category if we are able to get around to that one :)

I was watching a Sonic Video earlier, and then It hit me - a Joke. It took me 11 years to understand the joke in the name Miles Prower. 11 YEARS.

The specials in Splatoon 1 were fun to use, but I always got hated getting shot at by an inkzooka; or trying to kill someone and they just become invincible with the bubbler or kraken.
Which is why I'm so glad Splatoon 2 focused more on balancing everything.
Maybe I'm crazy, (I am) but I honestly think Splatoon 2's maps are just as different as 1's were.
And I love almost every song from both Splatoon 1 and 2. I have all three Splatunes CDs from Japan to prove it. Lol
I do feel the difference between 1 and 2's motion controls, but it never bothered me.
Though I really really hope Splatoon 3 has good online. And cloud saves. If not, then I bet I'll still love the game itself. But God, it would really suck if they still don't fix that stuff. I'm torn. Hahaha.
Oh, and I don't love Clam Blitz, but I think it's unique and fun.

Splatoon is great. I definitely liked the music from the first one SO MUCH better. I wish they brought some of it back. But Octo Expansion was one of the greatest DLC packs ever

Splatoon was a great game and it was really fun to play those maps
I absolutely adored splatoon 1, the punk soundtrack, the way the game felt, playing with friends, and everything the game had to offer. I remember playing with you guys on stream before I even had the username Reznuk, which was obviously a long time ago. I just hope splatoon 3 can reignite the love that splatoon 2 kinda snuffed out for me.
Not too mention how fun every new update was

I’m concerned that splatoon 3 is going to stray too far from the original gameplay or overall atmosphere and aesthetic but that’s just me.
