Probably my favorite rendition of this classic. I've only listened to this about a hundred times so far, but it still hits me every time. Thanks Jesse.
Ana Marie Brits hate this song because we defeated them and had their empire on its knees and just as we going for the final blow a civil war broke out and we were taken back 10 years, back to british occupation but eventually we achieved a 26 county nation and are still fighting for the 6 more by pen and ballot box.
I keep coming back to this and i. am never disappointed its almost Easter time over here in the states let us never forget those brave men who fell in the foggy dew😟
I`ve been listening today to many versions of this famous Irish ballad and have to say yours is way up there on my list....fine strong pure voice....love this!
I am just after finding you on youtube trying to find proper Irish music. I am from Boston born and raised but my parents are from Connemara Ireland. I have grown up with Irish music all my life, and i have to say is you have a wonderful voice and its not often you find people who do justice to this music, you sir absolutely do this! Never stop singing?? you are a true talent
It's been 3 or 4 years ago, since my interest in folk music rose. Since then "The Foggy Dew" is one of my favourite tunes from Ireland. And, what's more, whenever I need new songs for my own repertoire, your channel still is my first address to look after. I also appreciate your blog as very helpful for musicians no matter of which level (with 30 years as an amateur I am an experienced old dog, myself). So, I just wanted to say: Thank you, Jesse, for being such a great source of inspiration!
As down the glen one Easter morn To a city fair rode I There armed lines of marching men In squadrons passed me by No fife did hum, no battle drum Did sound its dred tattoo But the Angelus bells o'er the Liffey's swell Rang out through the foggy dew Right proudly high over Dublin town They hung out the flag of war 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar And from the plains of Royal Meath Strong men came hurrying through While Brittania's huns with theirlong-range guns Sailed in through the foggy dew 'Twas Brittania bade our wild geese go That small nations might be free But their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves On the shore of the gray North Sea But had they died by Pearse's side Or fought with Cathal Brugha Their names we would…
Blessed be! Great cover friend. I have been listening through as many versions of this as i can find. none made me sing along quite as meloncholy as yours. I look forward to watching your tutorial on how to play this.
I'll have to come back and listen to your other videos. You have a great voice and you play guitar very well too. I see you have a couple CDs out as well. Saving my pennys!
My favorite version is the 1929 John McCormack version. Yours is one of the best other version and better than the Dubliners version and the O'Connor version. Excellent!
Beautifully done! One of my favorite Irish rebel, songs I play all the time on my tin whistle. But on a side note has anyone heard the version of this song with that extra verse that goes "And the night turned black as the rifle's crack made perfidious Albion reel, midst the leaden rain seven tongues of flame shined out or the lines of steel, with shining blade a hero said 'unto Ireland her sons be true, and when mornin broke still the warflag shook out her folds in the foggy dew." It seems rare
I have the lyrics and sheet music to it. That is the third verse of the song. I like playing it on the accordion. It is one of the many great songs written about the Easter Rebellion.
Excellent! I'd also love to hear the collab with the pipes. Any of your war covers would sound great (or maybe you have an original tucked away somewhere with a war theme?) :-)
Just love this song, so sad and moving,,,, and your version is just amazing! Gosh, how many instruments do you play ,, and so well ?? (mandolin, bodhran, guitar,,,,,,) Just discovered your videos and really impressed!!
Hi Jesse, listening to your covers for the past few years. Very enjoyable and a great voice. Do you only do covers? Any songs of your own and would they be in the same vein as the covers?
Am I correct that this one isn't available for purchase (at least on Amazon Music)? I love your singing, I'd like to purchase a copy, but I'm having trouble finding this one if it is on there...
Nice job on the guitar and your voice is WAY better than mine. But here's our version anyways. We go into Cold Frosty Morning after...its a nice transition. Foggy Dew / Cold Frosty Morning
that was very nice. I really like your music a lot! Would be great to collaborate with you on a tune. I could offer whistles, mouth harps, Swedish and French bagpipes...
The chords and lyrics are in the video description for all of my videos. Thanks for stopping by!
Such a great cover! I am sitting here with the guitar, learning to play it. Thank you for that. Greetings from Switzerland :)

Ha. That's one interpretation.
@@walsh5799 By all means take them if it'll get you lot to stop harping on. Maybe your unhealthy obsession with us will finally die xD

Qué buen tema y qué bien cantás Jesse
As down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I
There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by
No fife did hum, no battle drum
Did sound its dred tattoo
But the Angelus bells o'er the Liffey's swell
Rang out through the foggy dew
Right proudly high over Dublin town
They hung out the flag of war
'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky
Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar
And from the plains of Royal Meath
Strong men came hurrying through
While Brittania's huns with theirlong-range guns
Sailed in through the foggy dew
'Twas Brittania bade our wild geese go
That small nations might be free
But their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves
On the shore of the gray North Sea
But had they died by Pearse's side
Or fought with Cathal Brugha
Their names we would…
Well done, lad! Keep singing and playing!

Seriously, you should come play in Green Bay WI. No shamrocks in our beer, I promise.
Damn I wish I could do this
great performance! what this song actually about?
Chords please :( your tutorial is not linked
Is the note when you sing "down" (the glenn) an A#? Call me dumb but I have alot of troubles with this.
scotland is most well known for pipes, but the Irish had them as well, and you can find examples of bag pipes as far away as Isreall
can I find you on spotify ?
Hi Thor, I think I'm on there. I use a service called CDBaby, which sends my music to various streaming sites.
Jesse Ferguson thank you :)
