So many times as a kid i had to sit on the ferry between the UK and Holland and I'd go on the deck to pretend I was snake on the tanker . Even better if it was raining that night.wish I could go back.

You knew shit was gonna go wrong when Otacon is the dude explaining how to use your guns. But seriously I remember the instant i could finally control Snake after the cutscenes only for the 2nd story guard to spot me and run downstairs.

This game has a special ambiance I've always loved. It's the way the entire game balances the atmospheric sections with no music and the bombastic sections with epic music that's always stuck with me.

The whole thing stank-- but our noses have been out in the cold too long.
They actually timed the flash of lighting with the distance and delay of the bang and it varies in different areas.

It’s 2024 and I cannot think of one single game that has captured the beauty of these scenes. The effects are fundamentally simple, yet sublime in their execution. Well observed, with great attention to detail. Make no mistake, Hideo made a considered choice to craft this scene, to challenge himself and to push his team. This is why this is now, and will always be such a masterpiece.

Aaah this game where every fan of the game were disappointed when they had to play Raiden instead of Snake, but in the end, we learned to love Raiden too

For me, anyway. (WARNING: LONG)
This was probably the first time I ever played a Metal Gear game; I was planning to purchase Metal Gear Solid 1, but I decided to buy Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty as well, back in a snowy January/March 2018 as a depressed autistic teen. I began to emulate it via PCSX2 on my Laptop (I didn't have a good desktop back then), and... my Laptop crapped during emulation, but I fell in love with this series thanks to the Tanker section. I played a bit of the Tanker, evading enemies, hiding in lockers, knocking out baddies with my M9 and hiding their bodies, I was HOOKED. Once I finally bought and played through Solid 1, I instantly played through Solid 2 after, with the knowledge that you only play as Solid Snake in this section of the game, so I wouldn't be surprised once the timeskip and protagonist switch happens.
To this day, not only did I hold on to my physical copies of MGS1 and 2 for five years, but I also bought the PS2 Substance version, the PS3 HD Collection and the old Substance PC port on GOG when they were retailing the latter. And I still consider Solid 2 to be the best Metal Gear game ever. No, scratch that. The best STEALTH GAME ever, period. No joke, when I moved onto Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (which is also considered the best of the lot by a sizeable chunk of fans not unlike Solid 2 before it, and I can see why after an attempted revisit), I got my ass kicked and was slightly alienated by the new 1960s Spy throwback dramedy style, and my unbridled LOVE for Solid 2 is exactly why. Nothing could ever top it for me.
Now there's a new compilation of the first seven Metal Gears coming out (Master Collection Vol. 1) for modern consoles and PC, and I sold my old copies. Why? Because _of course_ I'm gonna pre-order it, wait a couple months, and immediately begin a new playthrough of Solid 2, because this franchise has a place in my heart, one that couldn't have been carved out were it not for that opening infiltration of a dummy tanker on a rainy day.
