Жаль её. Слишком трагическая судьба не могла завершиться хэппи-эндом.
Киру убили, когда ей было всего 38 лет.
    R.I.P.

I am north american and I always watched Kira (as did many of my friends, so nondescriptnyc speak for yourself please !) and was very happy when she won her bronze. She will be missed.. I was very sorry to her of her tragic death.

I think artistically this is a really lovely programme. One of her best. She holds her upper body so well throughout, very classy. I think it's true that Peggy and Dick had something against her. It's as if they are searching for negatives. Had an American skated this programme their tone would have been different. Criticise her elements if you like but her jump combo floats like a dream.

This is a skater North Americans LOVED to hate back then,,,
In my 30 years of participating in and watching figure skating, though, this has been among the most memorable performances of all times (especially for SPs), with a perfect mix of speed, flow, jumps, music, energy, choreography, expression, and even costuming. Sure, her spins weren't as strong, but the rest of the program really made up for them. I miss her skating.

@kerstenfanatic What happened, though, is that Ivanova hadn't really competed at this level (except the 80 & 81 worlds where she didn't even place in the top 10), and she didn't compete outside of the USSR in 82 and 83. Then, she had a bad showing at her 1st international competition back (84 Euros)--so the judges were probably not ready to give her the top marks yet.

@metsdudenj If you think Dubravcic, Leistner, Ruben, Thomson, etc. were ever capable of skating at anywhere near the level Ivanova skated there, you are revealing your knowledge of skating (or lack there of) to the whole world. Zayak skated really well (certainly better than Sumners) and I love her, but she was nowhere near Ivanova in her speed, presentation and the quality jumps.

@metsdudenj I would not have placed Ivanova any lower than 4th in the SP. Witt, Chin, and probably Zayak I agree were better. Sumners had a major mistake hence why she was only 5th in the short. Kondrashova has nicer style, but was shaky on almost all her elements and barely held onto them. Ivanova atleast had very solid jumps in this program.
As for the long I am not sure how you find enough people to beat her to put her 8th. Could you list the 7 you have over her.

@SwissMan73 Egmont in its original format is a bit too heavy and hard to edit. Michael Weiss skated to it in 2002ish? This rendition Ivanova skated to by Pierre Porte, I believe (which Bestemianova/Bukin also used an exhibition number through the early to mid 80s), is very nice and ideal for skating.

Lol, how can you hate on this?! The only one I find that was better is Elaine Zayak!!!! They were both underscored!!!!

@mattimattiusa yeah Chin should have been 1st which is why only the U.S judge had her 1st and he was forced to write an explanation to justify it, LOL!

@nondescriptnyc Zayak was 10 times better than Ivanova, in her jumps, positions, and her spins were superior. How could you say presentation was better with Ivanova? I mean come on!!!??

Chin and Zayak both deserved to placed higher than her

The three Americans, Witt, Dubrovcic, Leistner, Ruben, even Kondrashova and Thompson had more complete programs.

The only memorable thing about this performance were the blatantly high marks she got especially from the ITA judge. I am sure the USR and ITA who had been sleeping together for years, had an agreement to boost each others skating, which is why the USA lost the bronze in Ice Dance and the bronze in ladies skaitng as well. Had Ivanova been correctly judged in the LP, Tiffany Chin or Elaine Zayak would have been wearing a bronze medal

Robbed? This SP got higher maks that she deserved, the spins were all over the place and had horrendous postiions. That the poster implies that this SP could have been better than Chin's shows he knows shit about figure skating. Ivanova skated clean, yes, but she was not better than Zayak, She deserved fifth place in the short and 8th place in the long
