I was making a mess of it until you explained the GLUE was freezing the main axis cap bolt. A suggestion is to use an appropriately sized screw/bolt extractor in the little center hole. Tap it into that center hole and GENTLY turn it out of the axis bolt with a wrench. Thank you for giving me the confidence to put a little strength into it. I was sure there was a hidden pin some where that was locking the cap bolt in place, and your video showed me I was wrong. Thank you so much!
@coldspring22 The original was fine! I touched it up with a fine file after gouging it with a flat bladed screw driver. The screw extractor; the largest one that could fit and bite, did the trick. And the screw was salvaged.
Stumbled on this clip looking to repair a pair of binocs. Can't remove the screw though. It seems like it's glued or has threadlocker applied because there are signs someone had already tried/did a repair. Any tips on removing it?
Sometimes it's impossible to remove the center bolt. Basically you have to use Dremel tool to carefully enlarge the center screw slot and use large screw drive to try to remove the bolt. Most likely if screw is really stuck, screw head will fall apart allowing you to remove the eye pieces. Then you can use drill and screw extractor to remove the center screw stem.
Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear about your troubles, where is it flooding? (We just had 5 weeks of forest fires, extreme drought in the Pacific Northwest)
theoverengineer i have taken it apart just like you showed in the video, I think we have the exact same set of. Binoculars. I have it taken apart and through the big lenses Ilooking through I can STILL SEE dirt and dried sand and dirty water. I have them all dried but the interior lens still have dirt on the inside of them. Can I expose them for cleaning?
Why do some binocular manufacturers lock down the center screw so it nearly impossible to remove the center screw? Don't they want to allow repairs? The tool to remove center screw is coin driver which is not common and using regular screw driver is likely to destroy the screw. But even if you have to destructively remove the center screw, it can be easily replaced (as you demoed in this video), so that's not a huge issue.
Can someone help me actually repair/replace the focus wheel? Part of the focusing mechanism broke due to which the mechanism came apart. I fixed the broken part but I'm unable to put the focus wheel back in place between the two parts. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi How decoding and repair of Carl Zeiss 10x40 Notarem multicoated and repair balance Alaadasat? I have the moves and spins but does not change the lenses and never nearly ?? Can you help me!
+عساف العساف Not familiar with that model. It probably works like any other binocular, has threaded spindles for focusing, glued-in-place threaded lock-rings concealed with exterior trim. Inside the binoculars is Nitrogen or other gas, not air that make servicing tricky.
“As you can see, there’s a cap here with glue holding it on. See? There’s the glue. Don’t try to use a 75 lb sledgehammer to open it because you could break it. Here’s my 75 lb sledgehammer. It’s too wide. Here let me zoom in on the sledgehammer so you can see that it’s too wide. See? It’s too wide.”
they look like soviet style binocs from the cold war era or prior, yes? Excellent mechanical understanding by the overengineer who must be German, right?

+Bouchard Palomata No video but the lenses all come out and are held in place by threaded lock rings that may or may not be glued and/or sealed. Here is some visual ideas: ruclips.net/video/2jiU2tb6Ljk/видео.html You have to find the notches in the rings and open the binoculars up.

Ok so do you have a replacement binocular center bolt or did you just make do with standard bolt?

Of course. Inside, more threaded lock rings and angular prisms to bend the path of light around. Do not move the prisms out of alignment.

good video clip.
If you put a thin washer plate in between, you do not have to take the screw so tight.

They don't want people to try to fix things

Chris Ross Eastern block, confirmed. I bought these bin`s at Porst in `89? or so.
theoverengineer I guess the oval sticker on it indicates that it is of japanese origin.
Sjef Wierink Carena is an in-house brand name sold by Porst, a German manufacturer that folded recently.
Thanks for the video, but please use a washer.
Great job!
